I'm looking for your opinions on what connection is better... now that ESD & I are on the computer / internet quite a bit it leaves our real phone service dead - no outside calls coming through.

What have your experiences been with the different high speed providers, who's better w/ service, hook up, rates, etc?

$39.95 for Comcast broadband. Very fast but not the cheapest. It's normally $50 but I have discount for having all 3 of their services. (Internet,Cable TV & Phone) I don't have any issues with my speed or connection.

I'm not sure on DSL.  I've heard stories both bad and good.  -ares?

I guess they're less expensive but it sounds like you get what you pay for.

Keep in mind that even using dial-up connections like Net-Zero High-Speed, it's still dial-up and even if it doesn't take up your phone line, it's still much slower than DSL or Broadband.

Hey Dawg. I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinion on this.

I guess if you already get cable, you could go with them to get high speed internet, they charge us up the wazoo because my one roommate insists on Satellite (which btw is going up like cable is), but you get an okay package deal if you get it from them. We pay about 60 a month for it.

If you can get DSL, check it out, usually it's cheaper, but you get two charges, one for the line, and one for the ISP. Some people will say cable is faster, but honestly, if you just want to be able to use the phone while being online, it's not going to be a big difference (I'd switch to dsl in a heartbeat if we could get it, unfortunately we can't, and we've been on the waiting list for 2 years!).

The more opinions the better. I like to be fully armed with knowledge when contacting these companies for services, like what they really offer and how their stuff works. We currently do not have cable. What we want is for us to be able to be on the internet and still receive incoming calls. Qwest said we could do either a DSL connection or get call waiting, which would bump you off the internet every stinkin' time someone calls in. Not an option!

only 5.95 for dial up...is the best rate on dialup that I know and is very tempting to go back to even after my comcast speeds.

We never had problems with Comcast reliability when we had the service.  Now, getting it transferred has been another story.

We're scheduled (again) for install between 3-5 on Friday.  Cross your fingers everybody!  Third time's the charm, right?

    even after my comcast speeds.

We tried switching back to dial up once.  Don't kid yourself. You'll pay whatever they want to get that speed back. You'll put a price on time and will figure out that you'll more than pay for the speed within one day.  Especially if you try and actually DL something instead of just surf.

So it's 2:30 this morning, my wife and I got a buzz on and this police helicopter flies up and stations itself over our house and doesn't move for a long time. I go out front and see my neighbor out in his yard and ask what the hell is going on. He tells me that he spotted this guy who broke into his garage.  He picked up a socket set and hit him in the head as he took off.  The guy dropped his bat outside the door as he left.   I talked with one of the dozen or so cops driving around and he said that the guy(s) stole a cycle and broke into a bunch of other houses and cars in the area.  This doesn't happen in our neighborhood partly because we have a few cops and a city counsel member on the block. Not to mention that there really isn't an opportunity to do anything because half the block works off hours so someone is always around. I think I heard that they were caught later. I felt good about my taxes at work when you get that kind of response for just a theft.

Funny thing was that when the copter first showed up I was pretending to pound on the wife and was mooning them.  They didn't have a searchlight but I found out later that they were using the infrared/heat sensitivie camera.  Oooops

Felt like we were on Cops

This is my script for my short story animation. It's interactive, so there are 2 different endings. What do you all think:

    Cooler Kid

Once upon a time in the frozen north land there was a city that held a winter carnival during the long cold winter months.

One of the events for this carnival was a medallion hunt. One clue a day would be printed in the paper for twelve days or until the medallion was found.

In this city was a group of insane people who loved the treasure hunt with such a passion that they would wait all year for the hunt to start. They were called the Cooler Crew.

In the Cooler Crew there was a young boy named Cooler Kid. He was a good kid but some one lead him astray.

    This is his story:

The hunt had begun and Cooler Kid was so excited. He was new to the crew so he was out to make a name for himself. He found himself one day in one of the many parks in the city looking at the latest clue and trying to decide where to start digging.

One of the other crew members came up to the kid and introduced himself,
Â“Hi Kid, i’m Stryder”. The kid liked Stryder. He helped him out with the clues and showed him the ropes.

The next day Stryder had to work so the kid was alone in the park. He was looking under benches and in snow banks when he noticed someone dumping trash on the ground and looking under the cans.

Now Stryder had told him the day before that it was wrong to mess up the parks so he went to talk to the person and see why he was being so destructive.

His name was Oscar and he made fun of the Cooler Kid. “You’re in the Cooler Crew! hahaha What a bunch of losers!!”

Then Oscar got a mischeivious look on his face and put his arm around the Kids’ shoulder. “Let me tell you how it is. It does not matter how you find the medallion, it only matters who finds it first.”

So the Cooler Kid spent the next couple of days with Oscar and started looking up to him.

Then on the 8th day of the hunt Oscar was busy, so Cooler Kid was in the park by himself and he met up with Stryder.

They hunted the day away and Cooler Kid was torn. Should he choose the way Oscar hunted or Stryders way.

He asked Stryder what he thought and he told Cooler Kid that he should make his own decisions, but to make it wisely. Maybe he should sleep on it.

    Choose

    Stryder\09 or Oscar

    If you choose Stryder:

The next morning Cooler Kid got out of bed. He had made his choice. He met Stryder and they hunted all day for the medallion. As the sun was about to set, Cooler Kid saw a blue glint in a snow bank. When he bent down to pick it up he saw the medallion. He and Stryder turned it in together and claimed the prize...

and the Cooler Kid lived happily ever after.

    If you choose Oscar:

The next morning Cooler Kid got up and he could not decide what he should do.

He went to the park and ran into Oscar. He told him about the decision he was trying to make. Oscar looked very angry and did not talk for a while.

Oscar finally threw down his shovel and glared at Cooler Kid shouting: “I give you all my secrets and this is how you treat me??? You will choose now and if you don’t choose me you will be sorry!”

So he chose Oscar then. Oscar was friendly again and they searched the whole park as the sun was setting. Cooler Kid saw a blue glint in the snow. As he bent down to look at it, Oscar jumped in front of him and grabbed the medallion. He ran to his car yelling “Sucker!!” and sped off to claim his prize.

The Cooler Kid was dumbstruck. Why did he trust Oscar?

    He lived miserably ever after.

I'm confused - I thought Oscar was Jake.  And who is this Jake person anyway? He wasn't mentioned anywhere else in the story.
