Reason is, if you're still logged into peopleseforum and someone clicks on the link, or copy and pastes that link into their web browser. They are logged in as you. They can post as your username. Change your password, and create all sorts of havoc.
So, here's how to post a link.
Look at your current URL. See all that Gobbly Gook between the @ symbols?
That part between the @ symbols is your identifier. It changes each time you log on, but stay with you until you log out or close your browser.
So, to post a link, just delete the info between the @ symbols.
Example:
((forum?14@@.efa8565))

I do that constantly and forget that it identifies me. I don't think anyone has messed with me yet but it wouldn't be hard to do. If I re-log in now, would it then negate all my previous posts where I used that login identifier#?

I don't know whatever possesed you to go there, THX, and take a look-see, but gods bless you for doing so. You are a saint, and I owe you big time. Big time.
ok I'm confused. I posted on the PP board a link with stuff inbetween the @ symbols. The link is still there. I never log in or out of PF and use that link to get here even after closing my browser. Does that mean someone can use that link even now and log in as me? The link doesn't go into a thread, only to the St Paul Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt folder that shows the threads.

That could be a sexy object if you bent over it or on it ;) just takes imagination-you can make just about anything work and then every image could be censored
Did I get the missing thread reference? you mean to delete between the @'s? I did that but it didnt take it out -but it was just in this thread so I didnt think it mattered much. Otherwise, no I didnt get it if you meant something else.
And I just didnt want to post "me bent over" cause it just plain sounded XXX than saying YOU ;)
Everyone sit down and be QUIET!!!!!!

Did this happen to someone?

Not that I know of, but I noticed someone had posted the link to here over at the PP site.
If you want to link to here. Just use this link: http://www.tinyurl.com/41cb
Your example is the same THX. Try taking your own advise bub.
I know. I fixed it, kind of. I couldn't remember how to do just text. It was a dummy URL anyway.
If I re-log in now, would it then negate all my previous posts where I used that login identifier#?
Nope, just gives you a new temp identifier.
[Edited by on Jan 5, 2005 at 06:53pm.]
Good info... thank for that :)
So what happens to the link with the #? Does it still work but just not identify you then?
Oh and speaking of, this is what I thought the links would show if I re-logged in:
That's right....
Â
You guessed it.....
Â
Alltogether now....

Or this:

Oh, shit. It was ME! And THX, I don't understand a word you said!
PLEASE HELP ME!
So what happens to the link with the #? Does it still work but just not identify you then?
When you remove the gobbly gook between the @ symbols, the link will work.
PLEASE HELP ME!
Look at the web address showing up at the top of your web browser.
See the two @ symbols in the address?
The information between those @ symbols is a temp identifier identifying your username.
All you need to do is remove the info between those two @ symbols.
I made sure the link on Coolertimes was clean. :)
Gods, THX, you are the most wonderful person in the world. Thank you.
Would you look, please, and see if I'm okay now?
Crap. I NEVER knew that. Good gods. That's all I need - more stress.
I don't know whatever possesed you to go there, THX, and take a look-see, but gods bless you for doing so. You are a saint, and I owe you big time. Big time.
I think I read a post here, someone mentioning the PP site, so I took a look see.
Good catch THX... thanks for looking out for everyone.
All hail The Thread Nanny!!!
Hip, hip, HOORAY! Hip, hip, HOORAY! Hip, hip, HOORAY!
All hail The Thread Nanny!!!
LOL
New tagline.
So you are saying not to post a link to here or are you saying not post links on the pf threads to other sites?
The latter. Don't post *from* here. Don't copy and paste a link from here - like at the top of your screen, where we are now?
UNLESS you take out ALL the stuff between the @ signs.
Does that make sense?
Yep I don't do that so I am cooler.
Example:
Copied from the top of this screen:
green 1/5/05 8:24pm
See how there's nothing between the two @s? That's because I took out the info that identifies me.
Understand?
Holy crow. THERE'S NOTHING THERE!
Well, I guess that's just how this place reads it. Weird. Not how it was in my post. THX, THE THREAD NANNY, will have to xplain some day.
I'll read this in the AM...IÂ thinks I've had a few too many 2 figure it out.
you can also link in here from www.coolercrew.com/coolerchat.
So what happens to the link with the #? Does it still work but just not identify you then?
When you remove the gobbly gook between the @ symbols, the link will work.
My question was regarding existing links. I'll try it and see.
It will still work.
