The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.
The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...

No kidding Caribou. We're going to have to set up PPMCCA- Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Club Anonymous. They should keep this site up so we can plan our club gear, and get ready for next year
God damn it!!!!!! I SPENT AT LEAST 100 HOURS OF MY TIME SEARCHING FOR THAT PIECE OF PLASTIC CRAP!!!!!! I WAS THERE FROM 8:00 PM LAST NIGHT ALL THE WAY UNTILL IT WAS FOUND!!!!!!! IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS ONE OF THEM FIRST TIME, LUNCH BREAK PEOPLE THAT JUST HAPPENED TO STUMBLE UPON IT. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS WHERE HE FOUND IT I WAS THERE 3 NIGHTS AGO DIGING THERE FOR HOURS AND COULDNT FIND A THING. I THINK THEY DONT PUT THAT PLASTIC PIECE OF CRAP OUT THERE UNTIL TODAY.
Rob, did you see them find it? Do you know the location? The PP page just says in the middle of the park, 10 yards from a tree with the word "crack" on it. Where was that??
Obviously, the word crack faintly written on the tree is a reference to "crack the code"...which is actually kinda cheap! There really wasn't a code to crack in the clues, just the tree!
Amy, they don't make any reference to a container. I wonder if it wasn't au naturale! Since the snow was so late this year, maybe a container would've been too easy to find.
I knew there was something to do with a "crack" somewhere, but I thought it was a crack in a tree or a crack in the ground.... Kinda cheap if you ask me! *sigh* Do we really have to wait another year to start again?
I, for one, don't want help. I like the frenzy, the obsession, the craziness. It gets your blood pumping!! Everyone needs a little madness once in a while :-)
Congratulations, finders, I spoke to you at the park on at least 2 nights. Im glad someone who had been looking as hard as I found it. Hope to see you next year.
Ya it was a little tree stump, not to far away from the "sliding hill, three pyramids, easily see the smoke stack" it was a stump that was cut pretty close to the ground. he was waving it around like a mad man. i was about to kill him. i sat in the cooler and always chat with all of u nice people, but that no good for nothing 15 minute taking off work looser got it before me. i searched there at least 10 times but nothing was there
Congratulations to Steve and Maureen, who according to the story have been looking for the medallions since they were kids. I still wanna know EXACTLY where it was. Is this tree in the park between Winona and Wyoming Sts?? It better be. And I don't care what they say, I still think the "crack the code" was the Cathedral dome!!
I guess they don't say they HAVE to hide it IN something. See, I knew it must be by itself in one of the chunks of snow that was already dug up. You'd have to break the snow down to it's very crystals to find it!!
It does help a lot to know that the finders were loyal hunters. GOOD FOR THEM! Just think, they've already done it, but we can still look forward to our first time....there's something to be said for the first time you know.
Well, we'll do it all again next year. You can count on it. Has a time been picked for meeting the PP Cooler Crew in CP on Sunday? Wear something white and somekind of nametag with your "handle" on it. I'd like to know who's who. Last night I had a big piece of paper with PPCC SueBee on my back, but got nothing but strange looks. Hey, I tried.
SueBee... I'm thinking 11:30???? Then you could make it???? We just make the event a "Re-Hash Bash" instead of a breakfast... Cook whatever you want, kinda' thing.
Man, I wanted to fulfill my vision of my finding the medallion.
From another digger's perspective:
I saw the man from afar, fire in his eyes, dynamite in his arms as he tear up the snow as if it weren't there at all. As firecely as he dug, as sudden as a gunshot, he stopped. Carelessly tossing his pickax behind him, landing blade down in the ground with a pleasing >thunk<, this mysterious man bended over calmly, picked up an object from the ground that I knew not what it was. Hunched over he became, and dazed I was, as I saw his face literally redden to the shade of slaughterhouse blood, throw back his head, and let out a yell that deafened me to the point I am today. I only caught glimpse of his face once, fire in his eyes, his expression like stone. I wonder where he be today...
I was out there with my son this morninig looked all around that tree stump and all the trees. every area was dugup .I am glad for them, what a coincidence that channel 5 was there at that exact moment had thier cameras pointing there. next year iam just going to watch and wait for the media. It sure was fun reading ,and meeting some new folks on thecooler so not all was a waste till next year tally ho.
When I heard it had been found I had such a hard time accepting it..I didn't want it to be real. I've heard it so many times over this past week. By the way, ignore my husband, who thought we needed a 12-step program...he's teasing us. He was really sweet and brought me lunch today while I was digging.
Queen Bee: Where and when is the Big Reunion on Sunday, I think everyone should meet on Wednesday at the Cherokee Sirloin Room , Crab Legs all you can eat @ $13.95. What do you think?
I'm outta here. Gotta take a friend to pick up her car, go find that damn stump and give it a kick, and then will get back on here at home to see what's what.
Remember: The First Annual PPMCC Re-Hash Bash will be held this Sunday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at CP. Bring whatever you want to cook-out; in addition to the grills at park, there will be at least two Coleman stoves.
I'm proud of all us Way Cool Cooler Heads. We did a great job together - and there's always next year!!!! This is has been the most FUN WEEK I can remember!!!!
Even though none of you out there are going to believe this, my friend Eric and I were helping steve look for the medallion last night at about 6:00pm. All of the clues were visible from the one location: The dome and spire of the Capitol, the 3 pyramids were at eye level with the snow, it was between Cherokee and Chippewa & between Wyoming and Winona streets. Also, the word, "CRACK" was written in white paint at about eye level on one lone oak tree. Damn we were less than 5 friggin' feet from the thing and we couldn't find it! Chalk up failure number 7 for me!
No kidding Caribou. We're going to have to set up PPMCCA- Pioneer Press Medallion Cooler Club Anonymous. They should keep this site up so we can plan our club gear, and get ready for next year
Part of the info has been posted now...where they found it, but no explaination to the clues...
Hey- There's info. on the winners -- go to the Clue page!

Rob- I'm sure you'll spend at least another 100 hours next year, too. We all will. We're diggers. It's in our blood.
PS You know, I'm really not going to miss the lunatic ramblings of Joe Medallion.
Okay, I'm pissed.
oy! i knew i should've skipped school, at least they mentioned the water cooler but they also said they only read messages. sob.
This is bullshit, they need to tell us what the thing was in, blah blah blah.

I, for one, don't want help. I like the frenzy, the obsession, the craziness. It gets your blood pumping!! Everyone needs a little madness once in a while :-)
I think I'm going to calmly walk across the park with my hatchet and cut down trees and kill people.
I think they have a twelve step program to help you people.
Details and clue explanations will be posted later.
Casey T.
Congratulations, finders, I spoke to you at the park on at least 2 nights. Im glad someone who had been looking as hard as I found it. Hope to see you next year.
When later Casey?
I know that I'm going back to the park and finding that damn tree, just to see how close I actually was...
DON ,I THINK THERE IS A TWELVE STEP PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU .
Ya it was a little tree stump, not to far away from the "sliding hill, three pyramids, easily see the smoke stack" it was a stump that was cut pretty close to the ground. he was waving it around like a mad man. i was about to kill him. i sat in the cooler and always chat with all of u nice people, but that no good for nothing 15 minute taking off work looser got it before me. i searched there at least 10 times but nothing was there
If they hid the medallion bare, I'm going to have to send the Press a mailbomb. That wouldn't be very damn fair.
Come on Casey, we're having withdrawl. Help us out here..... PLEEEEEEEZE

EVERYONE LOOK AT MESSAGE #7151
Hoooey! What a ride. Kinda wish it would've been a cooler contributor, though.

Sue, that would be cool. We can all meet, find out where the medallion was found, complain about how good or bad the clues were...

I'll probably bring a couple extra steaks, if people would be wanting them, or people come out shorthanded. This sounds like a real cool plan.
Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!
