1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Churchill St. does not run into Como Park. It stops just south of the park. Trust me, I've been doing this for 20 years-it is NOT at Como. I think you're reading into

these clues a bit too much when you get 4 players during a penalty.

A spence - if you want to sound intelligent and bossey - type like you are.

2- It isn't Como

3 - You are not thinking in the theme of the Carnival

Spencer- You are barking up the wrong tree. It's in Hidden falls park. THere are 9 pools- or wells- and the just dug up 4 new ones.

Blast from the past could be the civic center that is non-existent now, and was blown up. that is where I-94 and west 7th (Hwy 5) comes together. There is a park

there, or at least what I think is a park which is a triangular form of land....you can see the cathedral from there and the capitol and a couple of other clues tie it there

which i cannot disclose...but i was wondering if anyone had any info about that area that i'm talking about...is it a park and if so what is it called?

Como is too obvious and busy as well. Think of a Park that matches where it has never been found.

...an iconoclast is one who attacks and seeks to overthrow traditional or popular ideas or institutions (or who destroys sacred religious images). So we need to do

away with the old and bring in the NEW!! A tome is one of the books in a work of several volumes...or a large or scolarly book...we need the name of an author!

The devil's den in Newell park is being well picked over by now but I don't think the iconoclast is a devil. Some people think the first clue rules out a park that

includes a golf course...some think it is a park with a golf course...but don't dig in it. That one makes you think....

The famous name is either Pierce Butler - a former supreme court judge or Taylor - as in Zachary Taylor the 12th pres. of the U.S. 1849-1850 - (150 yrs. ago -

guess what anniversary it is for the Pioneer Press?) Both of these streets run into NP. "many a tome" Like encyclopedia or law book? Hamline( Law )University is a

stone's throw from NP I think that clue #2 is telling us to stay away from the snow slide guess where? Como Park.

If at Como, where can you learn anything? No library or school that I saw....from where I would dig, anyway.

hey i just looked in the dictionary for the word "tome"... i knew what it meant but i found something worth noting... it is pronounced "toum" so it sounds like town

kinda... why would they put a word that LOOKS like HOME but doesnt really rhyme with HOME...

JANICE Many were talking this afternoon about Battle Creek and several claim to be going ther tonight to search, I haven't been able to explain all the clues in

relation to Battle Creek though.

ok tome also means a devils pitchfork. And maybe it could also mean the bible. But i just came back from newell just again to point out all the clues so when me and

my buds go out tonight at 1200 we will know where to go. It took me about 10 minutes to find and get to Devils den and it is a true place very hard to see especially

in the dark. Devils den is an enclosed place by brush and lots of trees. Its not small but isnt big. Surprisingly when i saw what the place looked like nothing was even

touched. i think i have been the first to go there. Again this place is very hard to see and the sign is so small and the path i s covered up by snow so have fun trying to

get there. right now i think im the only one that knows how to get there!!!
