It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Look for us in the field, you've seen us befor.Look for us at the paper,we've listen to you there. Look for us on line, we've got the research to blow this hunt wide open!!! BE SEEING YOU!!

We say Phalen or Highland, we were on last year as Patrick Budion.

Good luck to everyone!

Medallionhound, do you favor one over the other? We were hoping for Highland since it's closer to our home base. Phalen's been used several times more than Highland, so our guess is more toward Highland. (By the way, check out our e-mail location. It will tell you who we are!)

Good morning, everyone!!! I was on here until 12:30 this morning. Not much of any talking of clue was going on. Very disappointing. I agree with waiting until 2-3 more clues in order to really narrow it down a little bit more. The consensus is a park near a golf course and maybe near a theatre is another possibility. Any thoughts?

Well, it's that time already. It feels like last years just ended. We figured it was going to be in St. Paul because it's their 150th birthday.

It's nice to see that its in St.Paul again...my book should still be of some value. I'll have a new one for next years hunt. Last time I checked, there were about 8 copies of the original book in the Reference section at various St.Paul libraries. See you on line and at the park.

I am so excited! Love it, love it, Love IT! The hunt is on! If you see a very large 6 foot man, a 5'4 brownheaded girl, and a 12 year old blonde boy.......say "hi!"

Terry

Good Morning!

The hunt is on. Everyone is excited! And it's only 13 more hours till the next clue. That is unless someone messes up again and posts it several hours early.

MJ - I missed you on our list of attendees to the prehunt party last night. You are an important part of this crew. Please accept my heartfelt apologies.

I have thought Phalen for some time now. It is long overdue for a hunt. At least it hasn't been eliminated by today's first clue.

Me and the Medallion Mobile

im not sold the clue says its at a park with a golf course. i think it says just the oppisite.

Me and the Medallion Mobile

also, they tie in the word green, to ryme with scene. so im thinking studios. either cable, tv, or movie studios near by.

Highland is a good area. Have to look at all the street names close to the park and see if anything might sound good with the clue. I haven't looked at the Phalen Park streets either. Will have to do that today. Still think the best thing to do is take a camcorder and video tape all parks that might be considered, make a map/chart of surroundings, and then cross reference street names with background information.

Will check back with you fellow hunters this afternoon. Keep noodling and sharing ideas.

no golf course me thinks. me likes the energy park movie studios

Wright Winger. . . I'm thinking the same thing about not being near a golf course. However, me thinks *caught wasting* is an important message, rather than scene.

MJ

Caught wasting your time. Something out of Alice's Restaurant!!!

Sun, 01/24/1999 - 11:21 AM Permalink

There's a land fill near Keller Park, and in a not too distant place a real golf course, and a mini golf course. Hmmmmmmm, perhaps my golf course theory might beeeeee wrong. Maybee ittiz *near* but not really close to a golf course. Hmmmmmmmmm. But Maplewood didn't want the hunt in their back yard. Perhaps they've changed their minds?????

Being that ittz the 150th Anniversary of the Press!!! Who/or what city wouldn't want to bee part of that????

Sun, 01/24/1999 - 11:24 AM Permalink
Terry

I think that clue could go either way. It might be a park with a golf course and it's a warning to stay off of it....or....it's part of the generalization that usually comes with the first clue with a extra that says do not tread of golf courses anywhere as they are off limits regardless of which public land if may be on.

That said....I think we'll need to see the next couple of clues.

Sun, 01/24/1999 - 11:25 AM Permalink
MJ

Hi Terry!!! Just noodling here, waiting for the bathroom floor to dry!!! My mind is going on overtime!!! :)

Sun, 01/24/1999 - 11:26 AM Permalink
Terry

It will not be Maplewood. That would be way ridiculous to even think the people hiding the medallion would dare tread on Maplewood soil. The promise is a lawsuit.

Parks with golf courses....Highland, Phalen, Como. Como also has a miniature golf place.

MJ - We found the other button. It must have fallen out of the bag when we were putting it into the other bag.

Goodie Ter!!! That was really nice that SnotV had some extra ones! Which reminds me, I need to fill them out and mail them in!!!

MJ - Get those registrations filled out now!

Hey Guy! That's what makes this so fun!!! Makes everyone use their noggins!!! So much for the first clue! At least we're challenging our gourds!!!

I don't think it is in Como so there are only two others with a GC and that is because Como was just redone this summer. They dont want it ripped up and there is the snow slide there too this year.

The KARE 11 studios are in Golden Valley which is in Hennepin County.

Clue #1 says St. Paul. That doesn't sound like Hennepin County or Golden Valley.

Morning Green!

Noodling clues and remaining calm seem to be impossible. The two do not work together.

94 and highway five intersect. the closest park is mounds. Don't think that is the numbering system though. The four is something we are going to have to figure out. Anybody seen anything in the clues about what it is hidden inside of yet?

I guess it wouldnt be the bulletin board unless you were reading into the clues. But the first one ususlly never says that much.

What kind o'maps you getting, MJ, and *where* down here?

(hehehe! Eags, better start countin' my Joes! LOL!)

Anything that might bee useful. I'm not as familiar with the parks as most, because we always lived in the burbs, so I need some help. Prolly Target, then mosey west till we find something.

Hollywood, I'm really disappointed you didn't make it last nite... Kept waiting and waiting... :(

Was a blast, as are all STB-L get togethers! You should have seen us noodling the First Clue - was a riot! The night d-r-a-g-g-e-d by... Waiting and waiting for the clue. And boy, did we loose steam once it was out! Our objective reached! Then took a look at The Cooler Crew Command Post - an RV that's on loan to Mom & Dad for The Hunt. I'm in heaven! Not only a stove for HOT food/coffee/cocoa - but a warm potty - AND A SHOWER!!! Beds to snooze in when not digging!

For big parks - there's Highland, too. And I was just reading something on The Net - Town Square... *I've* never heard o'that one tho!

Energy Park is actually a collection of private businesses in an area that was once part of the Burlington Northern Railroad corridor. You might recall that the Children's Museum was once housed in one of the original and rehabbed BN buildings. Bandana Square - a small shopping mall is housed in another BN, rehabbed building. The Aspen Medical Clinic is there, McClaren Hills apartments, a hotel and other businesses are along what is known as Energy Park. Ittiz not a park in the same sense as Highland, Phalen, Newell or Como. Ittiz a business park. Not public land that is huntable.

Town Square is a office, business related building in downtown St. Paul. Not public land.

Thanks Green - I missed being there too.....

Highland, maybe - had it in '94 and 5 years isn't out of line for a gap - I think its crucial to remember that there will have to be tons of parking this year with the $10k prize....

Highland has less parking than Phalen and certainly less room to hide the puck......

We'll know more tonight!!!

Dave

(Town Square is downtown and indoors I believe...) ,

Hi peoples, I think I know what they mean by "fairway" in the second part of the clue!...but I will need to get a map before I can confirm that. By the way, the party thing last night was cool.
