Downtown Dave

Many people know it because it is a handy place to park for "taste of Minnesota"

Thanks, THG. I was out today doing errands for my office and stopped to have a bite to eat. I happened to stop by Wal-Mart that had a McDonalds inside of it. Sitting at my table I noticed that all around me were "SMILES". McDonalds states they make you smile and Wal-Mart will give you one of theirs. Is it a possibility that one of these 2 items might be close to the park/place?

Exactly!! but maybe the paper is purposely doing that to throw you off though

One of the coolest views.

I have a feeling that the 5th clue will be very important!

Jake: an extra copy of treasure hunters guide is a good thing to have in the bathroom to read while your on the crapper so buy two. It may pay off someday to memorize a bunch of trivia you could get from that book!

Regg: All of the clues are important.

Unfortunately, my schedule isn't going to allow me to dig until Saturday AM and I'm definitely going to be driving around checking things out around the capitol and Valley (that is unless the next few clues sends me looking elsewhere).

Mabye the bank thing is referring to what it is hidden in, like a check box

Right now I'm pointing to the HF/Crosby area and the Capitol

Steve--I might add that the guide is a pretty comprehensive view of parks in St. Paul for non-medallion hunting purposes as well. Like finding a place to play tennis, etc.

I thought about that but thats pretty big. What about a bank envelope

Wed, 01/24/2001 - 9:39 PM Permalink

Every year, one of the 1st clues tells you what it is hidden in

Wed, 01/24/2001 - 9:39 PM Permalink

yeah, we kinda forgot about what it could be in...

Ahh....thanx DD, but really there's no other need for it. It's a one purpose commodity.

Whats going on! Just got back from work, can someone fill me in on the hot spots, or do I have to go sloggin back through the past 800 or so posts? are the spots everyone still thinks, Palace, Highland, Phalen, and Eastview?

each day before a clue comes out, I always think the next one is going to be big, then it turns out to say somethin stupid.

I think it's in a safe that has the 10K in it and says LEAH on the front

I do like the Hidden Falls idea. The circular balls on the lines for the aircraft and Fort Snelling in the background, divides Minneapolis and St. Paul, Ford Plant, US Bank, etc. Hmmmm?

I hate especially after the hunt is over and you find out that the clues were so simple and all that work you went through to solve them.

Mabye, Beth, but wouldn't an envelope get all shredded up when it is in the snow?

Wed, 01/24/2001 - 9:42 PM Permalink
Map Guy

I went to one park today and saw no other hunters, so I'm gonna hunker down and wait out the fifth clue.

Downtown Dave

Regg man--agreed. I can't help but feel they have told us already. Beth--they hid in a diaper one year, so I don't think a check box is out of the question. In terms of hiding objects, I agree it will be smaller because the snow depth is low. If it is in something fairly big, it would have to be something that may exist as "litter" like a Mcdonalds box, or something people would find icky like a diaper. I think a check box would be tough to hide in this snow depth, would not hold up to melting due to being made of paper, and because it would be tough to bury, would stand out as not belonging in a park.

The names this year are very creative I must say. Jill, do you agree with my post on Hidden Falls?

The circular balls thing was used in 1993 when it was at Hidden Falls.

dt dave i'd be concerned about the guy in the stp truck. you did tell him to do his own research, right =). and you're trying to convince us that the parks have more than one purpose. why didn't anyone tell me that.

or else somewhere downtown

Diggin Dude. I'm with you. We all know the explanations will be very general, yet we ignore our wisdom and make them out to be more than they are.

Treasure Digger--I offer it only as an item that could be left in a park that would not draw a lot of attention--Fast food bags are left in parks every day. Unlike say, a teddy bear.

Ya, that's true. It sounds good at first though.

It's just Jill this year - Alan moved to Arizona, but he's here in spirit. Hey TD - I follow you on you posts on Hidden Falls - I think tonight clue will hopefully nail this down a little bit - I feel like I should be digging somewhere, maybe I'll where my button and go in my front yard - Hey by the way - are we getting snow anytime soon?

except back in 93 one of the clues refered to the floating balls.

I still think east and west has to do with East River Road and West River Road, and one of them being the correct one in which the entrance of the park is located

Dave, I agree. The smile thing has me thinking that it is a significant meaning besides making the finder happy.

Time to change gears. I'll check you all out tomorrow. Guide out.

DD - I feel it's going to be hidden in the pocket of a CC person. That wouldn't seem out of place at a park.

Diggin Dude, hidden falls sounds good!

Ok, I'm back from my little digging expedition, and that was about what it amounted to, little digging. You get to the park, and where do you start? So now that I've had my chance to check it out, Valley Rec Center is indeed where I was, and after these four clues, it seems to fit there perfectly (too perfectly?). I hope to know for sure within the next couple of hours.

I was just wondering, after this whole treasure hunt is all over, do most of you people still post in here until next year, just to talk with eachother and stuff? cause its a cool little group. I've never belonged to a "group" before.
