2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Crosby is the "tip" of ST PAUL and there is also the restaurant BUCA. "WORK YOUR BRAIN", COULD BE REFERING TO THE MICR-PROCESSOR PLANT THAT IS THERE,(OLD UNIVAC).

DQ - I guess Mounds is just as good as any for now with the generic 'all-park' clues and this recent one with the air references. I just hope the new(?) writer uses more thought when coming up with the points of interest other than just 1 or possibly 2 POI per clue. Hell, why not use some of our CC ideas that fit the final resting place even if they weren't originally thought of in the first place. Nothing worse than coming up with a better answer to a clue than the original 'generic/one meaning' answer that's printed in that final edition of the PP after the meds been found. I'm having a harder and harder time accepting mediocrity when you could easily write the clues to fit both the rookie hunter and the seasoned vet. The noodeling is fun but it kind of hurts the head when most of it is for naught.

What do you think DQ? Any ideas yourself yet or just chair hunting for now?

I liked the highland idea in the begning with prefix and suffix to make time and tide and fun and slide=highland but,,,,,,the whole no disturbing of golf course thing throws me off of highland. I heard it's sacred ground for those who golf there.

I've been hunting every year for about 20 years now. I was really thinkg HP until this clue. I think this clue could pertain to the flight paths over HP, but more realistlly it would fit better for a radio or tv tower or station. BC is still in my top three choices. I'm not convinced enough of any 1 park to go digging yet. And trust me, I'd love to go now cause I have to go out of town this weekend. And will be holding my breath till I get back. lol

For "Look for something in and on the air" I was thinking billboard, maybe for a tv show or radio show. Anyone else think that?

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:22 AM Permalink
Clue Master

How about smoke 'in the air' from the Xcel (NSP) smoke stack by downtown? You can see that from almost every park. I do like the 'on the air' ideas refeering to either an on-air radio or TV show, or an ad for one, or the tower with the call letters.

ooooooooooooooooooo, I like crosby!!!!!!!!!!

#1 from the beginning I thought "Far and wide take your hunt" meant the outskirt of st. paul and a long park.

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:27 AM Permalink
Auggie

Hmm. That could be an idea

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:28 AM Permalink

#2 the airport practaclly borderes the park. there's the in and on the air clue

The fact that there was no clue saying stay away from the golf course is messing me up. Do you guys think theres no golf course where it is, or that they left it out just to mess with us?

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:30 AM Permalink
Diggin' Queen

Time and tide, fun and slide could still mean HP. they could name the park if it was a border!!!!! not the park.

Down the hill, far from the woods any1 know how the terrain is out there????

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:30 AM Permalink
Diggin' Queen

there's no golf corse at crosby

"Hey, hey," you say, "We're game to play But give us a tip -- be fair!"

as night hunter said: elway and gannon are streets that run right into it. baseball players.

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:33 AM Permalink
Diggin' Queen

the only 1 that doesn't fit for me is

Clue #2 You may knit your brows on this one Or just trek up and down every hill Work your brain, your legs, it will be fun If you have some time to kill

any1 got a take on this 1??? night hunter????

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:35 AM Permalink
Auggie

Theres not really a park in highland is there? theres hillcrest, and the sledding areas, but ive never seen an actual park.

elway and gannon run into Crosby?

Wasn't it in the Rules about the golf course so it wouldn't need to be in a clue? Tide could refer to the Marina perhaps., game - refer to the Mariners., tip - could be reversed to be a baseball pit. 'Slide' into Home base., opposite of fair is fowl. Look for a ball in the air.

Oh well, I am no good at this...

Wed, 01/23/2002 - 1:36 AM Permalink
Diggin' Queen

night hunter, you still here???

ThoseMedallingKids

I've already put my 2 cents in on why I think "fun and slide" does not lead to "land" and thus "High-land". As far as them not mentioning a golf course, do they need to? They state in the rules that we're not supposed to be on one.

No user inform…

"on the air" is most definately a reference to radio or tv. If anything else was "on the air" I think it would classify as a scientific phenomenon. That said, "in the air" could be many things but we must stick with the simplest explanation which tells us it's a radio or tv tower. I know one exists north of Newell Park, near the tracks on the other side of Pierce Butler. The rest of the clue, I think, are filler words.
