The picture of the winners is really cute. It says they are splitting the money and the groceries and figure out what to do with the trip - so I guess you can split the prize.
I was right behind you guys, but didn't think you were going in quite the right direction so Karen and I just started digging around a fallen tree not too far from where you guys were. Then I decided to try and see if I could actually match up any of the other clues from that area so I went back towards the road. Then Karen said she was getting cold and couldn't feel her toes so I walked her back to her car and went home. I figured I had seen what I came to see and if it wasn't found right away, I could come back in the light with the actual clue in hand.
we ended up in the right place, but only after being in the wrong place - but I am sure that was after it was found - none of us really understood about the BMX bike trails and jumps and such - the clowns filled us in - we mostly wandered aimlessley and dug aimlessly in between looking for people we lost
I wonder why they're taking so long with the explanations? It's not like someone finding it should have come as a surprise to them. And I don't think they really plan on waiting until tomorrow. In the past few years it's typically been released within a couple of hours, even though it wouldn't appear in the paper until the next day.
Hello everyone! I went on 'Cooler around 8am, and there weren't too many people; just thought I would ck the 'Cooler now and am surprised to see so many people here! That is fun to see...Lil Slim---gotta love that photo and quote!
See, I knew those were BMX trails cause Tim, Ronnie and I were right there earlier in the day. Ronnie (my 4 year old) was umpin off the little hills. We sure didn't dig under those trees though, darn us!!
I will say it again - the clues could have read 1. Como 2. Como 3. Como 4. Como 5. Como 6. Woods 7. Como 8. Como 9. Como 10. Como 11. Clue as stated 12. Clue as stated
The hunt would have come out the same way - except only Como would have been destroyed as opposed to HI and Kellogg. The first 10 clues really only got us to the park and told us it was in the woods.
At the paper last night, it was really funny, to hear 100 people read the same words into a cell phone, each at a slightly different pace.
One thought for next year, would be to use a phone that has voice mail--that way you wouldn't need to write it down, but could listen to it over and over again.
Hehe, yeah, maybe they're frantically trying to make all the clues fit to the location too :) Seems to me up till the 10th clue, it could have been almost any park (harriet seeming to be the favorite), Has that ever happened before?
Dave, I think we were the only ones that wrote it down as it was read - everyone else ran north of the fireplace and then called and got the rest of the clue.
Well, maybe the PP is trying to explain moving that Med from HI to Como; they put it into woods that needed to be thined out alittle bit. PP is needing to get the clues together; it is true, the explanations were ALWAYS out by now.
From now on the PP should put the Med in areas that need weeding out, or arigated. that way the Hunters could do the work for cheap for the St Paul Park Dept.!
I was reading the PP board and there is someone whining about people using cell phones and lanterns and stuff, even went as far as calling people who use this stuff "loosers" OMG! who's the LOOSER!
I'm happy the hunt went on for a while and that it was fun. I'm a bit disappointed though that no matter what explanations they offer, I don't believe I'm ever going to see the actual hiding spot as fitting the clues in a manner more compelling than they fit anywhere else. I wouldn't even be surprised if I had heard someone offer the real explanations as a theory before it was found, and would have dismissed it as not very likely as compared to other areas.
There's something to be said for being vague and something to be said for being tricky, but in the end, once you know where it actually is, everything should "click". I don't think we're going to get a click from these explanations. I think we'll get a "whatever".
I totally agree AW! I thought the same thing. Everything was just.....yeah, okay...I guess that could be red,white,blue--but then so could that..ya know????
Not to pick on LL specifically, but why does everyone spell "lose" with two o's? It's a pet peeve of mine. I've even seen official documents from businesses spell it wrong.
leelabell: stealing like that is another reason to support the Med being found by the 12th clue; all the lurkers went nuts at the very end, not there from clue one. They jumped on the publicity bandwagon.
Queen - I totally agree, if you think enough you should be able to find it before the last clue - but clues like this only perpetuate mahem on the last night
My feeling is that maybe the PP hired an outside firm, or agency , to do the clues this year. I mean, they seperated the Water Cooler from their site, maybe some outside agency did the clues.
"Lose" with a z sound is a verb. It's the opposite of win. "Loose" with an s sound is an adjective. it's the opposite of tight.

I don't know, there was definitely a personal air to the whole thing.
Mornin" Heads! I guess one could call this year's "The Extreme Hunt", I think alot of contenders were ruled out due to the brutal location. Not that I minded, I thought it was a trip. ...and a BLAST! It's just that I met a couple of little old grey haired ladies (maybe 65-70 yrs) looking down at HI, and then after clue 11, I saw them at Como. I hoped they would be the finders, but not in those woods.
Making the clue so vague, only encouraged the masses to decend all at once in a frenzy like they did. I think the prize should go to the best noodler. The person that can put the puzzle together. Not the opportunist who jumps on the bandwagon at the last minute. At that point, it's an endurance test. It's not about figuring the puzzle out, it's about racing to the spot and edging out the compition.
I met the finder of the "82 oreo in my hubby's zone 7, He was a really nice guy. We got his phone #, maybe we should invite him to the re-hash, or is he already cooler?
I haveta see these clues fit somehow though, I'm really hoping the clues will be a bit less cryptic next year. I mean by no means don't spell something out for someone, but don't go to the other extreme and just leave it up to the last two clues to indicate where you should look, why have 12 clues if only the 2 are important?
That is true, Orion! There is something about finding the Med based on solving the clues, rather than the last clue when it is just racing to the spot and edgeing out the other racers. Well said!
There was a dark brown lab found at como last night- the guy's kid posted it on the PP board so if anyone is looking for their dog someone has it and is looking for the owner.
I didn't take the outcome of this hunt personally, I made a pact with myself that if the "park clue" didn't show HI, I was going to stop freaking, and sit back, enjoy the rest of the game and end with a good feeling. This was one of the best hunts ever! Except that it wasn't in Harriet..;P
think it should get more specific as the clues progress. It seems like things they were pointing out in the park weren't even in the final resting area.
by all have to get ready for work
The picture of the winners is really cute. It says they are splitting the money and the groceries and figure out what to do with the trip - so I guess you can split the prize.
I think the one who found it should get the $3,333.34, and make the other two settle for the $3,333.33

good call. Or, the one who gets the 3,333.34 doesn't get to go to Hawaii because he got more money than the other two.
I think those three need to play a best of 7, mean game of paper, rock scissors to see who gets the trip. That's gotta be the best way

Maybe even they realize how the first 10 clues were so confusing and are trying to make them fit, and it's taking them a long time
If I were them, I would say split the money, split the groceries, and the one who actually found it gets the trip.
See, I knew those were BMX trails cause Tim, Ronnie and I were right there earlier in the day. Ronnie (my 4 year old) was umpin off the little hills. We sure didn't dig under those trees though, darn us!!
Thanks QM, and I agree with you about the trip AW

RIGHT ON Leelabell!

Queen, that is why they sent us to HI - the prairie grass needed work :)

Hey LL, those people aren't true Med hunters or "cooler heads".
Lots of people did lose stuff, but others were out stealing - someone tried to take Scribe's rake right in front of us.
I totally agree AW! I thought the same thing. Everything was just.....yeah, okay...I guess that could be red,white,blue--but then so could that..ya know????

You should read the post after that one! someone told him/her where to stick it!
leelabell: stealing like that is another reason to support the Med being found by the 12th clue; all the lurkers went nuts at the very end, not there from clue one. They jumped on the publicity bandwagon.
Lee, I guess that's a little gutsy...boneheads. :(
Is it really spelled that way?! I alway's thought it was 2 o's! Learn somthing new everyday! thanks AW!
Queen - I totally agree, if you think enough you should be able to find it before the last clue - but clues like this only perpetuate mahem on the last night

Nice one, LL!

I wonder if the person (spaced out her name) who found the wooden egg found a geo-cache??
