The truthful answer to that would be no.

I can say without a doubt they have spent and will spend more money in order to sell buttons then they will ever possibly make by selling them.

They are just doing it to support the WC.

Passive?

That's a device that basically operates solely by means of the power of an input signal.

In the cable business an example of a passive would be a tap. The tap carries and distributes signal and while it does cause loss during this process it does not modulate signal in the way an Amp or Node would.
