Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Maybe. Every year I hope the grammar of the clue means something in terms of how you should interpret it, and every year I'm disappointed when I read the explanations.

Hmmm, Shakespeare had some plays, Henry IV Part I, Henry IV Part II. This treasure hunt has a part 1 and a part 2. Although I kind of doubt that Henry Park fits clues 2 and 3. Oh well, might have seemed brilliant 2 days ago.

To get back to the brother and sister for just a moment, the 1st thing that popped into my head were teachers at a Catholic school.

Agreed Allison-

Sometimes when I read the clues, I am so disappointed in the explanations.

It seems like most of the noodles we come to are much deeper than what the CW intended.

That really sucks for those of us that enjoy the research.

Maybe we're looking for a French immersion school, err a Shakespeare school that is 4 blocks away from the park?

Allison Wonderland

I'd really like to think that one must think of Shakespeare in order to figure out what the woodsy retreat is. We figured it was Arden Forest which would lead to Arden Hills. Wouldn't that be such a better clue than if it just means look in the woods?

lilslim

It definately would, and it would give the braniacs (as opposed to the follow the crowds) a much better chance
Fri, 01/26/2007 - 8:50 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

It's quite possible they don't want to give the brainiacs a chance. They probably don't want people skipping the hunt because it's too hard or they feel like the smart people always get it. Still, I think the best part of the hunt is the joy of discovery. Trees in a line anyone?

I may be stubborn - but nothing PULLS Me out of COMO. I will stay with the masses until something definitively shows its not.

As some stated last night - you can put many clues to many parks - but the obvious ones are como to me.

Randy--

Tonight's clue will be

If you passed our test

And it's Como you guessed

the puck is almost in your hand

Como park is the place

Where you'll win the race

Get ready to strike up the band

It's in Como already

So keep your nerves steady

Beacuse Como is where its at

all these clues are the same

It's the Como Hunt game

the one with the swat means a bat

I'm just avoiding Como because I don't feel like hunting there, not because I'm compelled to believe it's not there. Although I don't feel like I'm just lying to myself. I do believe it doesn't HAVE to be there.

Reminds me a bit of 2003. I didn't know where it was, but I never entirely believed Harriet was right.

In Act 1, Scene 2 of Henry V, the King of France sends a "gift" of tennis balls to belittle England's beloved King Henry:

KING HENRY V What treasure, uncle?

EXETER Tennis-balls, my liege.

Doing some more thinking here. If I was going to write a clue about sporting fields, I don't think it would occur to me to write about the benches. What would more likely prompt me to make a reference to a body being benched is seeing a park bench, particularly if it was dedicated to a brother and sister. So maybe it's not in the middle of the woods necessarily, but at least somewhere not too far from a bench or a place to sit.

It does say it's in a park, but after three clues has made no reference at all to St. Paul.

The woodsy retreat I think is either some woods mentioned in Shakespeare like Arden woods, or it is an actual wooded area near something that Shakespeare would remind you of, like Linwood or Central Park which run into Avon.

In clue 2, thinking big could mean a big park, but it could also mean think beyond St. Paul.

Flora with growing pain could be a greenhouse like at Como or Battle Creek. It could be a reference to a Rose which would suggest Central Park again.

I kind of think the menagerie of fun really just means a collection of fun activities, ranging from the wild to the tame, both summer and winter.

The third clue to me is saying softball fields.

I may go check out Central Park today. I have no idea where in Como I'd want to look.

    Sorry to hear that KOP.

I got a call from the auto body place today. They're having trouble with the paint now, and the earliest I'll see my car is Tuesday.

I'd ask around for rides, but that's pointless anyways given the amount of work I need to accomplish this weekend.

Sadly, I have to write off this hunt entirely. There's just too many different circumstances that are getting in the way, and even if the hunt went to the last clue, it's just not a feasible option.

Besides, do I really want to say I found it by going out on the last clue, somehow beating the masses to it? I'd feel too much like the opportunists looking for a quick buck at the last minute. The sense of accomplishment would mean next to nothing to me at that point.

If I'm terribly lucky, I'll make it out late afternoon next Sunday to the rehash bash, perhaps I'll see some of you then.

I've learned a few lessons this year, just pick it up next year and move on. I've still got the off season hunts to prep for anyway, perhaps I'll have better luck then.

Best of luck to everyone out hunting!

    Not really, no.

I have to get the company switched to a new business software application, which is going to be a long and tedious process. If it were on a larger scale in a larger company, this sort of change would be assigned to a team of IT professionals, given 6 months of planning, testing, and implementing, then another 6 months of training employees to use the system before making the switch.

I have myself, a weekend, and over the phone tech support that won't be there to answer my questions. Basically I'm screwed.

I'll need to be in Monday morning to deal with issues that will come up, and questions from the staff. That'll be a long day ending with me going home and not wanting to do anything other than have a hot meal, and to be left alone (for fear of blowing up at someone).

Why not blow it all off? I suppose I could, but I'd have to quit, because I wouldn't want to deal with the aftermath. I also know personally the only way I'm ever going to have some time off is if I get this done, so it's in my best interest to get it done fast.

I'm not whining, complaining, angry or anything else, I just want to get all this crap done so I can actually have some free time again.
