2008 St. Paul Winter Carnival Medallion

Submitted by KITCH on

Medallion Hotline 651-228-5547

Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

Good Evening!

Just got up from a decent nap and I think the sun headache is gone.

Hope this next clue helps narrow this down.

We won't be out tonight. I would love to do that, but it's not in the cards.

Manitou is a term used to designate the spirits among many Algonquian groups. It refers to the concept of one aspect of the interconnection and balance of nature/life.

Build a bridge to your dreams...

Winnetka Park has a Point with a bridge to Manitou Island...

Could this bbridge building be the 35W bridge clue we suspected...FlatIron construction is building a bridge...

Question is there a building with a star on top that you could use looking east the brewery is east sunray is east what is in line or close to them . Just a thought.

I have not lived is St.Paul in years but has anyone thought the line could be as a crow flies?

I'm new you can laugh I am (take a break and rest the brain) and I hope someone on the Cooler Crew finds the Medallion I have my fingers crossed.

Thank You for the warm welcome.

I hope someone on the Cooler Crew finds the Medallion I have my fingers crossed.

Thought I would take this opportunity to remind everyone that when the hunt is over and one of us has found the prize, there will be our 11th annual rehash bash. It would likely be next Sunday and its a potluck deal. Great time to meet others and rehash the clues.

Check the website at www.coolercrew.com for location and details once those are figured out. Usually the time is around noon.

And, after this hunt, I hope you all stay around on these boards. Without the hunt fever burning through our veins, it's a great time to get to know others here. There are numerous hunts put on by others here during the year that are great fun.

I just have this feeling that Como, Phalen, Highland, and BC are all red herrings and if you read into the clues there's the park it's at. I have to admit, BC has moved to my #2 spot cause things do fit quite well there but not as well as Keller in my opinion. I wonder if were going to get a clue pointing at another random park or if we're actually going to get this thing narrowed down finally

and to the north of Whitebear lake, just inside Ramsey, is a park near a street called Evergreen Circle, (Just Northwest of the Minerva institute and to the west of the golf course...)which I guess could be a bower (circle of trees), but that would be so sneaky to have it be a street instead of the real thing...

I am praying for narrowing this down.

Back from looking. Checked battle creek out, drove around a bit and found A, B and C road. Had a good chuckle about that anyway.

Drove over to Phalen/Keller. Not a soul there, for a while I wondered if someone found it, but the hotline said to keep looking. I'm guessing nobody is convinced it's there anymore.

Tried out a long shot park first thing this morning, some of the clues seemed to fit really well, and then it went downhill from there, espicially since there was no fun down hill type snow connection, but it was a nice day to be out.

Headed over to another park, and that seemed to fit a lot better, and with some walking around we were able to put a lot of stuff together. NO body else around in this park, but it did look like some digging had been going on recently.

Thinking that depending upon what tonights clue looks like it may solidify the thoughts or just shoot that right out of the water too.

Keller's still my #1. the clues fit it too well for me to not keep it 1 for now. though this most recent clue has me questioning it a bit and leaning towards battle creek.

Hey Clue#5 this year we know is talking about #5 in 03.

Its telling us something doesn't agree. Centruy Avenue has like 2 or 3 names to it. Century(120), Gelvina amd I missing a name?

Samething with McNight. It switches names for a while in N St Paul.

Look sharp now and never mope

Moppers walk around with thier heads down, but you are not a mopper if you walk with your head held high, think this thing we are looking for in some park, some place, somewhere is up high.. With all these clues I am just trying not to mope... oh yeah, jonsom had that thought, I was busy mopping around a park...

McKnight is always McKnight

Hwy 120 is called Century in Maplewood, Geneva in Oakdale, Division in North St Paul, and E County Line Rd in White Bear Lake.

No its a different street name somewhere between 94 and 36. I seen it with my own 2 eyes driving that way today.

Oh, duh, Ya at Beaver Lake. McKnight used to just dead end into the lake. Then they put a road around the lake to connect both ends, but didn't name it McKnight. You stay on one road and it goes from McKnight, to Stillwater Rd, to Lakewood Dr, and back to McKnight.

how about them drunk Irish street designers!

i'll take drunk irish vs. driving around minneapolis..

McKnight runs into Beaver Lake, just before that the road vears east and turns into Stillwater, and then into Lakewood.

McKnight comes back out of the "beaver" and Lakewood turns back into McKnight just north of Ivy near the Hillcrest County Club

I was at chair today, a few others there, but nothing significant - my best prediction is that it's in a very small park, possibly even outside St. Paul - if it were one of the bigger ones, we'd all be there by now, but still no idea where to look, highland still seems the most logical so far, but the Masons had me down to Harriet today - where I ran into part of the camo crew - so it's probably not there

LOL!

Yeah, I'm hoping to be able to head out to a park tonight... I don't care if it's a big park or not, if this clue narrows it down and makes the park obvious I'm going... I'll stay there for 4 days if I have to, I'm getting paid to sit on my a$$ at home and participate in this so I might as well put in the work to actually find it..

Question what about crestview park to the est you have ponds creek golf course does anybody have Google Earth or Virtual Earth. It is by battle creek by lower afton and you have O'day street. It might be worth looking at. I was at totem town remebered that there was another park in area.

Here's something interesting that I don't think has been mentioned... Looking back at earlier clues, in this case the hunt from 2000...

Clue 4

Some places to gain relief from the rain

Will SERVE to help you as you're looking

Read this well and you just might obtain

A clue that will really get you cooking

Two picnic shelters and a park building at Newell provide "places to gain relief from the rain." There are also grills for "cooking." But the key clue here is the word "serve," which is something a butler might do. This, of course, is a reference to Newell Park's northern boundary -- Pierce Butler Route.

Now, look at Clue #7... If it's your bent you might seek a tent to PROTECT in case of a shower...

Now, who protects us? The police! Isn't that their motto, "To protect and serve"? What park is close to a police station?

I mentioned Hazelwood yesterday, there's several other things that fit but a few clues that don't fit at all.

Then again, that can be said with pretty much every park we've talked about.

I am going to be geniunely angry (vs. "Mad") if all this "Masons" hullabaloo is nothing more than another generic "Pyramid" reference. There is just too darn many "pyramid" shaped shelter roofs in the entire city.

I got burned on that during a hunt (possibly Chair-Oh-Key) when I could see both Capitol and Cathedral domes from the old shelter at Mounds Park, and then turn around and see three 'pyramids' in the form of a row of shelter roofs. I hacked away four hours at that spot, only to be sent to another park in the morning.
