Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

Jake says there's quite a few hunters at the park but not all the way down by Obbs. I think they're all taking the street names literally instead of just solidifying the park. I still like the lower woods myself.

According to PP board, they're towing cars parked at Marian Center. I wonder if people are parking in their lot?

Tried out a couple long shots today over a long lunch. Had a trail idea in my head and took a stab at that one. Now after tonights clue things seem a whole lot different. Hoping I don't get hosed at work tomorrow but the morning is going to be shot.

Hoping to get out some more.. Good luck to those out there now. A whole lot of names dropped off the wall after this clue came out.

Bet it is a interesting sight to see with lights all over the place.

Me too, CM. That's where I looked for it last year too. :goofy:

And to think there was a geocaching thing out there last Saturday. That would have made for a very short hunt if it had been discovered then.

i'm betting there is a lot of graffiti down by the rail cars... I think some of the photos I linked to earlier might be rail car ones.

No kidding!

Maybe Ian is holding out on us. He only hunted there for the last 23 hours straight as a front.

Not till after work - unless we run through there at lunch just to see.

We were up around the Carvers Cave side this weekend. That's where you get a very good view of the mason lodge on Plato.

Green, I don't get that we're supposed to stay away from Thorn or Etna. It think we're just supposed to stay away from the sacred burial sites and not go on the cliffs so we don't get any owies.

HEH - I was thinking that is what KC0GRN was doing while we were busy digging in the snow below. Think he might be the hold out.

It's actually in a section of Battle Creek...

Never mind. No one would belive me.

But stay away from Mounds, thorns, flames and flows. And look lower after you've looked higher. Go away from the cliffs, down.

I'm outtie.

The only other place we could spot the Mason lodge on Plato was from Kellogg. The clues fit there as they related to the river, but by Sunday afternoon after our scouting, I was thinking more Mounds than Kellogg.

Mostly because Kellogg is so small in comparison.
Mon, 01/28/2008 - 10:54 PM Permalink

I really thought for awhile it was at Harriet - but some things just didn't fit the way they should.

I also think that BC being how huge it is, would have been given earlier - and then just scattered everyone throughout the park the way they have in the past.

do you think that clue 6 is referring to the fact that some of the mounds were creaded duriing the hopewellian period?
Mon, 01/28/2008 - 11:03 PM Permalink
Terry

I would think so.

I wonder if the Lewis and Clark expedition has anything to do with this hunt with the connection of Sacajewia - I have that spelled wrong I think - but there would be a connection to the river. I believe she was Shosone.

Re: the Soucheray clue, I have a couple different ideas

    1) It is wrapped in a Soucheray article and then covered in invisible tape

    2) It is referring to Bilanski point (where Ann Bilanski lived) which is below mounds park located approximately where the Bruce Vento Sanctuary parking lot is.

I'm also in the camp that hates hunts that just say, park, park, park and then mad dash. What's the point? I have a sliver of hope that's not the case here, but since no one seems to have narrowed the park down to a smaller area, even with clue 10, I'm afraid that's what's happened again. The bower clue might work out. I don't know. I guess we'll see. I hate that we all weren't together digging in one big group. To me, that's part of what's really fun about the hunt.

A few funny stories from tonight. Mikey ran into someone who was slinking away from the park. He convinced her to show him what she had. As you might expect, it was a geocache.

Also, I called Mikey from the park and some other dude answered. He had found Mike's phone. The guy hung out on the corner of Mounds and Thorn until Alex (BFG) could leave our wooded trail and run down the block to retrieve the phone. Then I got the phone and it started ringing, but I didn't know what the sound was. Mike and I finally found each other and he was pretty surprised that I had his phone.

    From the PP boards:

Well, now that they have officially given away the park, here's some of the reasons why it works...

They gave the park away in Clue 1. "Lest this hunt go to the devil": The park abbreviation is IMP, which is a devil.

Clue 2: "Point of all this": Point Douglas Road. This comes into play even better later in the clues. Frank and Earl Streets are adjacent to the park, and Maria is just a block down. I'm sure there is a better explanation than this, but given the Sound of Music reference later, we can maybe assume that because Robert Wise was the filmmaker of SofM, and Maria is the central character... well, someone will find a better reason, but that's the wise gal.

Clue 3: "We've scanned the County" Wow, this threw a lot of us off... From Mounds, you can see the vast majority of Ramsey. Its a nice overlook to scan the county. The rest of the clue helps determine what to look for when there, and since it hasn't been found yet, I will leave that to the winner...

Clue 4: Everyone was pretty sure about the Go "C" reference, but it could be taken another way. Pacific street runs N/S adjacent to the park. Not go C but go Sea, maybe? I've heard there is a nursing home nearby as well, with a cross.

Clue 5: Well now, this seems to imply that its at Como, but much has been made of it meaning exactly the opposite. Apparently, this is a filler clue that was a red herring for some, or a nod to Joe Soucheray. Either way you look at it, we know it ain't Como. There's also a nod to the "Inconvenient Truth" here (unfortunate fact). This may play out in what the item is found in, but some think that perhaps it is a reference to Al Gore, when anagrammed: Go Earl. Earl St. runs into the park.

Clue 6: This could mean just about anything, but I'm going to go on a few limbs here... Honor the book could be a reference to the nursing home with the cross on it nearby. Weddings take place often at IMP, which I think ties in to "look sharp", and also "Thorn St." which plays into tonights clue. (more about weddings later) Kilt may refer to McLean street, but I am sure there are a lot of Scottish buildings nearby, or perhaps as thought, this will have something to do with Scotch Invisible Tape after all. The reference to HOPE is probably a nod to the Hopewell Indians, who used the land before the Dakota to bury their dead. I also think this clue has a few hints as to where to look in the park, but again, that's for you to figure.

Clue 7: More clues within the park itself, but it makes reference to the bridge which is visible from the bluffs. Tents could reference teepees, or the pavillion (which is more likely) to protect in case of rain.

Clue 8: First half I still think refers to Masonry in some way, I'm not positive but I would bet you can probably see 3M in the distance on the East side of the park, so perhaps that is the reference after all. The second half of this clue refers to one of two things: either Johnson St., who won his first election after taking over for Kennedy, but lost the reelection bid, and plunging America into the Vietnam War, or more likely still- Douglas who won against Lincoln in the Senate race, but lost to him in the presidential election. We all know after Lincoln took office, the Civil War started. "Point" is also used in this same clue, which I think is the final tie off to spelling out Point Douglas Rd. (note- this same road is in Battle Creek, easy to confuse the two...). Crying in your beer, I'm sure is a reference to Pigs Eye Lake which should be easily visible from the bluffs- and the crying- well, it is a burial ground.

Clue 9: the name "Indian" in and of itself can bring tears, cheers, elation, especially as it relates to sports teams bearing those names. However, there has been some backlash about the Indian named teams, thus the outrage. Rides the halls could be a nod to the Indian motorcycle, but probably a reference to rails which run below. More likely ideas: weddings are performed there, and are reason for the same emotions. Wedding photos hang on walls, and oft weddings are performed in halls, and can fill a dozen pages of photo albums and/or scrapbooks. Better still: Child. South of the bluffs is Child St. Children can bring all these emotions as well, sit on walls, ride the halls (think school, or my favorite "The Shining" with the big wheel over carpet REDRUM), and a dozen pages would refer to the length of a child's years. After 12, they become teens.

The Hills are alive, well duh- Hills=mounds, and this is a painfully obvious nod to the Sound of Music, thus Maria St. Be brave is an Indian reference. (Interesting factoid possibly related: Dakota Indians buried their dead with buffalo skins) Burns St. is what the protect your skin line is all about. The mounds themselves are off-limits.

Clue 10: Painfully obvious. Rhymes with grounds..., Thorn St. just to the North of the park. Flow could be a reference to the river, and flames... well
