Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

I think most of us were 99% certain yesterday. But early in the hunt he posted somewhere or said in an interview that he was 99% certain of the park already. Just curious.

He was in phalen up to clue 7 then como on clue 8 then mounds on clue 9.

Thanks monkey.

Jake was dead set on Phalen, the north side that sits in maplewood. Then clue 8 came out with the mason deal and he was out in como until clue 9, which I believe he is down by obbs.

Now we need to figure out what part of mounds is it. Is it up top where you can see the high bridge and the mounds or is it down low next to obbs?

Warner Bros didn't "do" SOM, I'm thinking it's just a movie reference.

My order was Phalen/Keller, then kellog, now mounds of course :crying:

Cooler. Almost as good as finding the Med. I was in the right park Clue 6.

Obbs is by Mounds. On Burns, just past Etna.

Well, OBBSvioulsy there were some that like my noodle on #9 as it looks like they took off...

Can you see the High bridge or the burial mounds from that side, I cant recall but I don't think so. Do you think we need to be able to see some of these landmarks he has described or could it be over by obs?

Well I will be heading out in a few hours.

Just called, THE HUNT IS ON KEEP LOOKING....

Yah beat me to it, Master.

Nope and nope.

If you go to the overlook in BC, above Warner, et al, right off Upper Afton, you can see a billion things. There's a bower there and you can see the lowest part of the park.

It could be by Obbs, there's parking there, but I don't think that's where it is. You've not "arrived" on the rails there. Nor can you take the Point.

I really think there's going to be something rash come Clue 12. Ittiz going to be a lllloooonnnnnnnggggg run for the Med.

You couldn't see the capitol dome (or even the fake one) when it was at CoNo in '03... matter of fact I don't think you could see anything from there.

Let me start out with I'm sorry for what I am about to say,

I know I offered to stand in line for clue 12 (an I am confident it will not be found before then) but I have to back out of that offer :frown:

and this is why, I had faith that as a group we could figure out these clue narrow down an area of a park and have a good chance of finding the thing with out "skill" turns out I was wrong to have faith in something so simple as a good hunt. Some lucky Bastard will pick it up in the middle of the night tomorrow, and frankly I am not that lucky. Clue 11 will confirm the park but will not narrow the search area, we are back to stupid hunts ending in with thousands of people thrown into the woods to tear them up, and frankly I'm done wasting my time....

My best wishes to all of you

I like these Clues. Now since I've been able to figure them out some. I think the thing was was that the Clues didn't point to exact things and you have to go back in the Clues and use something from a previous Clue with a current Clue.

Like, I didn't get "my point you could take" until yesterday and I put it with yesterday's Clue.

I feel the same way, this is not a treasure hunt, rather a mad dash to get some money for two thousand people. Whats the point of the clues if they are so difficult and obscure to where it just comes down too 2 clues. It takes no skill, just wait for the end and go try your luck :crying:

Oh, Muckluck, I'm so sorry to hear you say that! I wish I could change your mind - you're so much fun to be around.

I do hope you reconsider... I don't mean about standing in line, but just being a part of this with us all.

I respect Mucky's opinion, because most likely she'd get mobbed on the last clue.

As for the rest of you - what the deuce do you want, exactly? Either the clues are too easy or too hard. What makes a clue just right, what makes you happy with a clue, one that you figured out? Well neato. But remember 50 other people probably figured it out too. And from Ma Press perspective, the more people interested, the more people buy papers, and buy buttons, and participate, etc.

Bottom line: Stop whining. You want a challenge, don't complain about the difficulty level when you get it.

Personally I think it's great. Lots to chew on and lots to think about, and as it should be, the dilligent like Ian who've been working their way through the park will have a better chance than not.

I am still looking today, I just think they could have given us the park slightly earlier than clue 9-10. Mounds is a big park, lots of snow to uncover. the one thing fun about this hunt now is you rush to figure out all the clues and fit them to a location that you think is right.

Bear,

If you're talking to me, I don't mind the difficulty of the clues it just seems a little over board for such a large park.

well I am sorry for not getting anyone the clue last night - we sped off to go to Kellogg knowing the park was mounds - I couldn't get a signal or steal BW there and didn't have terry's # - i talked to CM at around 11:40 and he was still waiting for it.....sorry to not have been able to help

I agree with tammy on one regard - the hunt will get stupid and it may just be fun to watch people go crazy, like it was at como and phalen a few years back....but to wait in line and think we (or someone we know) will be led right to it is kind of crazy.....

I don't mind the toughness of clues - hoping the explanation will help us all understand the way of thinking of the CW - but I am sure there will be little told to pacify the mind

I may just sit in mounds tonight and see where people run to....I for sure will sit in mounds tomorrow night with vid cam in hand

the one thing fun about this hunt now is you rush to figure out all the clues and fit them to a location that you think is right

That's one reason I like these clues. I like it when I'm duped because I was thinking inside the box. It's got to be hard for the CW to come up with unique ways of writing the clues that haven't already been done to death. And every time they do come up with something new, it's now in the front of our minds. Look at how things have changed since they first used that anagram from BC. We all know to look for it now so they really can't use it the same way again.

We came. We dug. We lost! Dug for 10 hours yesterday in Kellogg. We are very sore and tired...our egos a little bruised. Probably will not make it down for the mad dash. We live in Princeton MN and with work and our little one we need to stay home now. Good luck to everyone and stay warm!!!!

Being part of the last clue is always fun. There is really nothing like it. I try to explain it to my friends but you cannot understand until you are there.

If you're looking for firewood for a fire tonight, there's some nice cut up logs shortly after you enter the path into the woods off of Mound's Blvd. between Thorn and Burns.

today is the day... (I for one have not given up hope yet.)

I have been followed everywhere I go by Cathy Hogan, hunted the other day with 5 previous finders in the same area, 3 yesterday, I officially met the finder of the first hunt of the Cooler Crew Steve Doyle yesterday - and been in the area with him a few times so far, and it is the 54th year since my grandpa found it in '54.

I am bundling up, going out and putting my noodle and hoe to good use.

I'm just crying in my beer

but I'm not sure if i'm whining or not but for a few of us that claim its not all about the money its about the hunt. I look at it a different way...

I just don't have any pride in picking it up when I didn't figure out the clues at all..(ok maybe a little  )

for that I give Jake and Brass mega props for last year...they figured it out and beat the CW..this year...doesn't seem like he was beat....

their game..their rules...my game...my thoughts...I'm done bkitching

I don't necessarily think it is hard clue that's the problem. It is hard clues coupled with the fact that they don't point to the medallion's location. That's what's frustrating.

Like I said last night, I have a sliver or hope that we're all just missing something and, in fact, the location was revealed early. But, we'll just have to see.

Off to the park. I hope I see y'all there.

The clues DO point to where it's hidden. YOU just haven't figured it out. That's the fun of this, at least for me.

Conference call website is www.freeconference.com. Doesn't cost anything to do, other than having a long distance number, but it's after 9 so should be free minutes for everybody.

Most surreal moments of my life! I hunt alone, so standing in a park with a couple thousand people waiting for the phone to ring.. There really is NOTHING like it. As much as I hope it gets found soon, I relish the idea of that moment.

Like in Como, 2003? I was standing on the street not more than 40 ft from the thing (it was just behind me). My clue getters were far back in line at PP. Long before MY phone rang a mad mob of a few hundred hunters starting heading my way. Kindof freaky.

Ah... the hunt. I hope to get to Mounds tonight. Need to find a sitter.

See ya!

I left my car open on Kellogg, most of the time I was there. A couple days ago, someone got inside, took my eTrex gpsr, and a dozen batteries. Luckily, I had the GPSmap 76 with me.
