Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

OT... and... L&A's Mom (was that you that got the chihuaha?)... I got a rescue Pug this past summer. She's was a breeder and lived in a barn. She's got a luxating patella or hip displasia (just GREAT for passing on to her pups!) with that leg being shorter than the other. She's got an elongated soft palate so her tongue is constantly hanging out a bit. She had to have most of her teeth removed and have a hernia fixed.

And she is the lite of my life! We could all take lessons from her - she is CONSTANTLY happy! Even after all she's been through.

OT, I also have to Muttlie Kitties. More Rarity Dickens, The Artful Badger is like 15. He's called Dickie, Dickie-dog, The Dog. And Wes Mr. Mouser. They're both classic tabbies with the bull's eyes, and both black and brown tabbies with Wes having white on paws and face.

Got a message from Joelcam again. Apparently he made it to the press too late, he thought the clues came out at 11:30. Word is he's not going to get out again to try and film at the press. But he told me to give him a call if I'm out overnight and he would try to get some video of hunters in the field, so perhaps this evening if we're all in the same area we can get some news coverage, heh.

Of course she's happy, she has you for a mom. Don't you wonder what would have become of these animals if we didn't rescue them? My cat was five years old and had been at the shelter for three weeks before I got him. I don't think they would have held him much longer.

Anyone heard from Jake, I haven't seen him on the board since the hunt started?

I think we're getting way too in depth with these clues. Look at clue #5. The first three lines seem to have a good pace to them and have good structure. They could be a part of normal conversation. But the last line sticks out, the flow and structure change. "My friend, that's an unfortunate fact". I think this line has meaning to it, and would help clarify things more.

One thought I have is that it might clarify which clue is being referenced. We all seem to be in agreement that the 2003 hunt is what set Joe Soucheray off, but in his article he discusses a few clues. In this clue, the word "fact" is used. I think that it is clue 5 that this clue references. There is symmetry in that it was clue 5 of that hunt, it is clue 5 of this hunt. It references a leap year, and this is a leap year. The clue explanation is also a fact. So I think that is the clue that is of relevance. What it is supposed to mean, I don't know. I do not think that it is referring to Como. I think we have a new interpretaion for the clue that we are supposed to figure out.

He's been at the PP board. They were giving him a hard time because he was posting and not hunting.

Always. Sends shivers down my body. Breed rescues are different. Not as much to worry about as they're fostered until a home's found. The Dog was just a 9-week old puppy when I got him. He was the only classic tabby in the litter o'll. All the rest were mackrels. You can't beat a muttlie for the mix of genes and longevity. Wes was a year when I got him. Almost didn't live and had to be fostered a year before put up for adoption. My vet called me, asking me to take him even though she knew I already had too many cats at the time. Because she knew he would have a good home. He was on bottled water and special food to keep his poopies like Tootsie Rolls. After awhile he didn't even need that and now drinks tap water, eats what everyone else eats and still has purrfect Tootsie Rolls.

He's going to be eight this year; same age as Pickles but I got him when he and Pickles were a year. He, Wes, hallucinates all the time. Constantly going after rats and critters nobuddy else here can see. He sleeps across my face at nite. He also talks to himself CONSTANTLY. Huh! I wonder where he got that! LOL! Not like *I* do that or enkneethang! :goofy:

You paid to have a cat shipped across country? You know you can get them for free, right? They still ignore you and scratch up your couch just same.

Sorry this was a reply to BrassMonkey. For some odd reason when I reply it shows me replying to myself.

I assume he had a particular breed in mind when getting his cat, and you won't find any Egyptian Mau's at the shelter. Reading about them, they're very rare.
Thu, 01/24/2008 - 11:46 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

They are very hard to find. We started looking for a cat to purchase so we started researching breeds. Once we selected the MAU as the cat we wanted then we quickly discovered how rare they are. At that point there was no turning back. He is surely something else though. I never had a cat that will actually jump into the bath tub or take a shower with you in the morning. very intelligent and he plays fetch as well.

Say I'm not coming up with anything new here. But I think TMK and others are on the right track with the Soucheray articles. So I'm thinking today's clue is either referring to the same clues that Joe was ripping on meaning they could be interpreted differently to fit another park (What were the noodles you came up with then to fit other parks? I wasn't on the boards then.) or this could be just a reference that they're not afraid to put it at Como again.

When you compare Soucheray's 2003 article to his 2007 one he completely flips around. In 03 he complained how obtuse they were and that no one would decipher them. In 07 he says make it harder for all the techno savy geeks. In both articles he refers to that this is no longer your parent's treasure hunt.

So in the past how most of us had to keep reminding ourselves to "Keep it Simple Stupid" and not over-noodle. Maybe this is a nod to noodle the clues in a more obtuse way as would have been necessary in 2003.

Something to think about.

In 2003 everything seemed to fit Harriet Island until the 11th clue. Does anyone remember how we fit the 5th clue that year to Harriet Island?
