2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Here's the RR reference to TSP:

The Canadian Pacific Railroad presented a significant barrier separating the north and south parts of the park. The installation of the trail underpass in 2006 eliminated this barrier for trail connections to the north.

The entire park (TSP) is within the Rice Creek Watershed District.

My husband's grandfather's name was Tony Schmidt. Maybe a Schmidt should find it. I hope it isn't BC. That park has been hunted to death. Where has green been? Isn't that "her" park?

Yes, where is green?

Battle Creek is goddamn huge, so there's easily a lot of places it could still be hidden. - how far along those bike trails behind the school have you ventured? That is ALL park. I'm leaving now to get out there.

This hunt just SMELLS like a 'Who Hears a Freakin' Who' Clue is around the corner...

If you traced the posts way back, you'll see I stated about a week ago if this was going to be a 'Brown' hunt, the woods in B.C. Maplewood has some of the best hiding places. I guess I'm liking it, but it also means no one is going to find it soon.

I had one of those, too. Even tied the triple score and red and blue into it perfectly. Leaving in an hour, maybe I'll see you there, thinking outside the box right along with me.

Tony Schmidt Park was created on Valentine's Day 1951. That means as of today it is 60 years old.

Wouldn't that be 61?

Oh... nevermind, I get it.

I don't think triple score is a reference to the number 60, but rather something near or in the park itself.

It could also be both.

I had that same feeling last night when we went to TS after the bar. Internally I felt very warm and comfortable walking through there and doing some digging. Like my body knew I was close even if my brain didn't.

"Welcome to Dock Boxes Unlimited."

and

"Dock Boxes: from this date forward (4/22) any storage boxes located on the docks must be the approved type. Rectangular white fiberglass type. Members with existing dock boxes will have until the start of the boating season to comply with the new rule."

From: Anchor and Line, the St Paul Yacht Club. which is, of course, at Harriet Island (two box references: Boxmeyer and Dock BOX). A chapter in the Boxmeyer book is "Harriet Island Beckons Anew."

However, I have not even looked at Harriet since that big Como/Harriet chaos in 03 (year?).

Quote of the day in my house:

As my daughter comes flying down the steps in a bath towel on the way downstairs with me on the puter:

D: Man I wish the laundry was done!

CM: Why do you wish the hunt was done? It's a good one this year.

D: Stop Dad! You are way into it too much. Hunt doesn't even rhyme with Laundry

hehe

Had me laughing anyway. Getting ready to bring her and her friends up north for the weekend then I'm kid free until Sunday!!!

The large brown building at center left is the Farwell, Ozmun, Kirk & Co. Warehouse 2, built in 1911.

FOK did their part to help during both World Wars by manufacturing ammunition and transporting it via the railroad that ran alongside the north end of the warehouse.

ty4 posting. Even though it won't be much I can see my drive time to and from Hinckley after noon might take awhile to get there and back. Damn! Doesn't Mother Nature know there's a hunt going on?

Tony Schmidt fans - is the playground really red and blue?

Is there any way to get the Roman clue to fit there? (I liked the use of repeat to refer to BC). Is it possible they clue writer was actually referring to that football player who was briefly on the Vikings? That would be rather a stretch.
Fri, 01/27/2012 - 10:10 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

The football player is my guess. Other things fit if you look back to the 1988 hunt.

leelabell

I'm not saying they don't fit. I'm on the bandwagon. I'm just trying to get a feel for it from afar. I've never been in the park, so it is difficult.

You're a good daddy, taking time from your hunt to tend to your daughter. Drive carefully, it's snowing out there!
Fri, 01/27/2012 - 10:29 AM Permalink

I was there once briefly for a mock hunt. Thus I'm working off mostly theory.
