2006 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by KITCH on
Clue #1
Thar's stories told thar's pirate's gold
Stolen from ye olde martyr's stock
To make yer haul, go search St. Paul
You'll find the key is in the lock

Clue #2
The Chinook wind blows, and the gray sky snows
As weary pirates seek shelter from the storm
Just how much treasure will make yer pleasure?
Thar’s a lot nearby but it shan’t make ye warm

Clue #3
A pirate must spy the stars with an eye
And whilst navigating stay ever alert
Misery'd prevail, if ye try to set sail
In a ship aimed towards the rich Shepard's dirt.

Clue #4
“Grub at six bells,” the pirate yells,
Zounds matey, tis nearly time for dinner.
But ye must wit which spot to sit,
Ones nearby might help make ye a winner.

Clue #5
A fire all aglow in me bungalow
Tempts a pirate to spend me time in port
But I’d best set sail and catch a strong gale
To avoid me fateful, dire day in court.

Clue #6
When pirates sail by the sweet lorelei
Aye, a careful prayer they must be keepin’
For her tempting call could well end it all
And with the dead soldiers they’d be sleepin’.

Clue #7
“The way that be best to open ye chest
Is to use a key”, the old pirate yawned.
Disappoint it may, would you perhaps say,
To be findin’ out the key had been pawned?

Clue #8
Tis a chain methinks fraught with many links
That’s meanin’ yer close enough to smell’er
Ye’d be no dummy hunting this mummy
Aye, lest ye panic and go run yeller.

Clue #9
Skeletons sit silently, having not died violently,
They’re simply sleeping through the winter days.
Listen closely my dear, they say “Treasure is near,
Buts if ye shall claims it, ye can not stays.”

Clue #10
Tis a park ye pursue, t’would be easy to view
If’n ye knew the street whereby cars buzz
But you’ll do just fine if ye get in line
With what be the interstate that never was.

It sucks. Inks has left to get the thermostat...in my car that popped a fuse last night on our way back.

That fuse controls the dashboard lights so now you can't tell what speed you're going, or anything else that's helpful while you're driving.

The fuse is cheap. Figuring out what shorted out isn't.

This is turning into an expensive weekend.

I had also thought about Arlington cemetery. Good noodle.

Mine quit on me in November. Thankfully it was a warm November. Might be cheaper to use a space heater tonight and wait until tomorrow for your service call, Terry.

I thought about that, OT, but with how cold it is outside, I'm afraid of the pipes freezing.

I'm hoping it's the thermostat. The furnace isn't that old...and it will come one, but goes off right away again.

Are your pipes on an outside wall? One way to keep the pipes from freezing is to let your faucet drip. And keep the cupboard doors open under your sinks.

jeez..... sounds like you're having a fun time... :frown:

the last car I owned - the speedometer completely froze one winter, and never worked again.... no matter how fast I was going it always sat right around 30 mph

When I was a kid I used to disconnect the odometer/speedometer cable so my Dad wouldn't know how far I drove. Took several day trips to Alexandria like that.

This wouldn't be so bad except that we have the furnace turn way down at night as we sleep better if it's cool in here. If this continues, I will start my faucets to trickling.

Current temp inside is 58. Brrrrrr

The new thermostat is home. Now to get it installed.

Keeping all partz crossed!

So onto the hunt.

I still like North Dale but there's another park I'm thinking could be it - Crosby.

Clue one could be the lock near the Ford Plant - it's keyless.

The lot could be the parking lot and there is the Watergate Marina there for seeking shelter from a storm, There is also the fire shelter that offers some protection from a wind.

Misery'd prevail, if ye try to set sail In a ship aimed towards the rich Shepard's dirt.

Rich Gannon - Shepard Road. If one would set sail from the river to the named roads above, you would run aground.

The six bells are at 3, 7 and 11. Stations?

Eating grub at one of these could be picnic tables nearby.

A fire aglow could be reference to the fire shelter/pit.

Court could fit the fire shelter from this definition:

court ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kôrt, krt)

n.

An extent of open ground partially or completely enclosed by walls or buildings; a courtyard.

Abbr. Ct. A short street, especially a wide alley walled by buildings on three sides.

A large open section of a building, often with a glass roof or skylight.

A large building, such as a mansion, standing in a courtyard

Clue 6 talks of a siren - and as we all remember from the Crosby hunt, there is a fire station nearby.

The dead soldiers could be a reference to the cemetary related to Fort Snelling - or the fallen trees.

It appears we have heat. Inks hooked up the new thermostat and turned that on - and the has been furnace running since.

Once the house warms up, we will have to actually install the thermostat so it isn't hanging off the wall. He didn't want to fully install it until we were sure that was the problem.

Good thing there's a heat vent right near the computer. My feet are cold!

Glad it was an easy fix Terry.

Terry

So am I, OT. I figured it couldn't really be the furnace as we could get the furnace to fire up if we fiddled with the thermostat - but then it would shut off right away.

The furnace isn't that old. We replaced that just a few years back.

fire in a bungalow = warmhouse or a warminghouse?
Sun, 02/19/2006 - 11:40 AM Permalink
Terry

No we don't do that. Have thought about it - but haven't done it.

The furnace is running and has cycled off and on once so it was the thermostat! Yippeeee!!!!

$34 fix.

But it looks like we're getting to pay Uncle Sam a bit more taxes this year. :frown:

hahaha - looking for something and I find it googled under something I once already said ---so in this case I guess I just reminded myself of something I already knew-- :sheepish:

Me2 - 01:19pm Feb 1, 2001 CST (#26574 of 28288)

Battlecreek and magnet school there was perfect too-- along with back in 1939 there was a "towering monster" made of steel for skiing in battlecreek.

#6 lots of space ---parking lot with spaces --battlecreek, como Como was the first park to be purchased from thecity for $100,000 on something called the big spaces ammendment thing (don't quote me on the exact name of the ammendment but had to do with lots of space)

riding around I thought of riding around Como lake way back when it was one way around the lake, and also the round fountain near the pavillion. merry go round at como. I thought of the "rings" firepits briefly on Sunday night and the trolly thing too. (used to hang out at the "rings" and the "dutch oven" as a teenager.

move off base --didn't actually mean that you need to completely stay off the field. just away from the bases hence-- snowbird in the field.

victorious one -- on top

Join my treasure hunting club at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/theallisonwonderland for future hunts during the year (well at least 1)

I know I was until the COcoa/MOcha clue. Everything seemed to fit so well elsewhere. So what I learned is that if you're soemwhere and the clues fit really well, you're in the wrong place. Especially if ALL the clues fit.

Naming North Dale Tennis Courts

Judy Dian of the North Dale Recreation Center Booster Club spoke highly of the service provided by area resident Ray Bissonnette to North Dale Recreation Center. He helped organize a petition drive to acquire land for the first recreation center at the site over 50 years ago, and since then has spent countless hours of volunteer service at the center, including many summers giving tennis lessons to youth. A motion was made and

seconded to adopt Resolution 02-12 which resolves, “that the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission endorses the proposal to name the tennis courts at North Dale Recreation Center the ‘Raymond L. Bissonnette Tennis Courts.’” The motion passed 6-0.
