Clues for the Medallion Hunt
Each Day during the week of February 6th through the 10th a new clue will be posted on this page by 8:00 am.
Clue #1
From the Edge I was sent
and on public land I will be found
The Hunt is on, Good Luck to you
Did I mention there's a red tassel too?
Clue #2
A shovel you will not need
A gentle lift to the sky and you will see
This was once a movie ground
But now there's a treasure waiting to be found.
Clue #3
Postcards are fine, but we're a little blue
Mr. Snowman medallion, where are you?
Not to worry with the Spring thaw
The will return from his travels as good as new.
But lets not let Mr. Snowman down,
this year's medallion is on the ground.
Clue#4
Much like the cows of the roaming free era
There is plenty to explore in this area.
And by finding this envelope you too will be
A piece of North St. Paul history.
Found by me2 on Feb. 9th, 2006 about 3ish-pm --$400

... started off thismorning talking to muck and she said the clue had to do with cows and lots of area. I first thought of that environmental place and thought I drive down to work and pull out the NSP file I had been reading over the last couple of days. I knew that Henry Castle had that seed farm but I didnt realize he turned it into a cattle farm -his house was on Silver Lake as well. I posted all that when I looked it up and then headed out.
I called Kitch but no answer. I called Jake and he said he would meet me out there. I said to meet me at Silver Lake cause that was my intuition. I actually went by Dorothy first and checked it all out then met Jake at Silver Lake. We then drove together over to Dorothy. We both checked there and went back to jakes truck at Silver Lake to get an ice chipper and back to Dorothy we went... all along with me saying I still thought Silver Lake. This time there was a man that was searching Dorothy, it just began to snow. I talked to him while Jake chopped up ice under a slide. Jake and I drove to Colby- drove basically past Colby to Southwood-drove past Southwood to the courthouse to see if it had been found yet. NOPE! the lady shook her head (the same lady I had been in to see 3 times yesterday -hehe). So we stopped at the gas station so I could get a coffee and Halls, then we drove back to Silver Lake. By this time it was snowing pretty good. I got out and checked under one of the kiddy spinny rides and found a switchblade and a sock. got back in the truck, then got back out and looked under a trash can, then got back in the truck (sorry, I kept getting in and out cause of the cold and this coughing)...we watched a girl search under stuff- then we drove over to that Sod Invornmental park. We ran into that same guy from Dorothy Park. We walked around, I didn't like it. Snow coming down pretty sticky now. Jake thought he would go home and come out tonight. I was pretty wishy washy. I didn't need to get Whitney for another hour so I could go visit my mom or go sit at a park and read over and over clues like we all always do. ...Most people really liked the invironmental place -but my history instinct told me to stick with the Castle Cattle history. I drove back over to Silver Lake. I passed 3 trucks with teenagers hanging out, looking like they found it! :frown: .... I saw another 2 trucks driving around. I pulled over and sat for a bit and decided to climb the stairs to the spiral slide, thinking maybe I could see that Maple-Leaf theater from there. I couldnt see anything from up there cause of the storm. ... didn't slide down but when I got down I checked under another kiddy spinny thing (I really thought this was an excellent place to put it).... I walked over to the can recycle bin and just as I looked under I could see the baggy. WOW!
The guy we ran into at Dorothy and the Invironmental place had just walked through there but didn't look UNDER the bin! he looked in it! He couldn't believe it!!! He about died!
I took a couple pictures and then called kitch to let him know. Jake was next on the list but Diggin 4it called and then Jesse called. I had walked into the Court House and looked at the lady who I had seen for 2 days---she looked at me and shook her head no (as in that no one had turned it in yet)...I said 'yes' - I found it- she couldnt beleive it! 3 women and a man started all abuzz- it was comical-then they yelled over to the other side of the office and 3 other women and another man got all involved and wanted to see it and talked about what they thought the clues meant and where they thought it was-ofcourse they all thought Silver Lake
I asked if I could keep the postcard because it is dated. The woman said that she promised it to the clue writer :frown:
I am invited and have to go back tomorrow night for their big fireworks extravaganda dance where they have me come up on stage and accept the prize. WoW! they really make a big deal out of this.
pictures to come-
I also found out what all the clues meant...they arnt posting the answers until tomorrow...
me2 I still have your button... but I'll probably be busy most of the weekend. I'll probably just mail it to ya.
now I can go take my codine -
Heh, I'm just gonna go be depressed somewhere for a bit, probably work late to catch up on stuff I should've gotten done during the hunt, whoops.
Great Job Me2!!
That has to be the best looking treasure that I've seen!! What was on the other side? Just blank?
The guy we ran into at Dorothy and the Invironmental place had just walked through there but didn't look UNDER the bin! he looked in it! He couldn't believe it!!! He about died!
That had to be tough for him. :frown:
But good for you!
I never even searched that park because of where it was found before. Now I know better.
One more lesson learned.
Where and what time is there shindig tomorrow night?
the mouse in eden prarie after dark out in those woods alone.
now this postcard when she is so sick she can only hunt in small spurts.
wow!
now we just need to find a reason why she shouldn't be hunting during the big hunt.
one of the weird things that had a ghostly feel to it was when I was near the slide I could see the mans tracks in the snow... so I followed them, placing my feet in his...they led to the slide and straight to that bin and then away from it- I could tell he walked up to the bin but there were no 'bended knee' marks in the snow -which I though odd- he never bent down to look under and I could tell!
Heard the antique shop has winter carnival and history books -so Im hitting that first.
thanks digg4ia for reading me the clue yesterday morning

Just meant Postcards From the Edge
Your searching for a postcard on public land in NSP
Clue #2
A shovel you will not need
A gentle lift to the sky and you will see
This was once a movie ground
But now there's a treasure waiting to be found.
I guess that park once showed movies in the park :frown: lame clue-they thought only locals would remember it. You don't need a shovel.
the gentle lift was that it was under something. Even though the bin doesnt 'lift'
Clue #3
Postcards are fine, but we're a little blue
Mr. Snowman medallion, where are you?
Not to worry with the Spring thaw
The will return from his travels as good as new.
But lets not let Mr. Snowman down,
this year's medallion is on the ground.
simple-Its on the ground
AND -I told the woman that I thought that line about 'returning as good as new' made me think of recycling - I guess she works with invironmental issues and thats what that meant! wow!She about gleaming about that line.
Clue #4
Much like the cows of the roaming free era
There is plenty to explore in this area.
And by finding this envelope you too will be
A piece of North St. Paul history.
Indeed this was about Henry Castles cattle land and his home on the southwest end of the lake.
Clue #5 was to be about the spiral slide - but in another history way. It would talk about a conveyor belt that kids played on???? hmmmm
I thought "silver lake =silver screen = movies" oops.
plus, the guy who runs the north branch hunt is sending me their clues daily as well (and after the hunt will be getting me the past history.
thanks to terry for the suggestion of contacting the hunt coordinators!
the "crypt" looks like a mess with the number of hunts that are in here...
but in time it will be nice...
each town will have its own folder...(at least I hope thats what happens)
Btw Kitch, you sound like you're the crypt keeper, talking about keeping things neat here
That's great! Hope you will bring the troops to be there and congratulate her when she gets her prize at the Snow Frolics Fling tonight. We will be having her say a few words if she wants.
American Legion Post #39 in North St. Paul. Dance starts at 8:00, and the prize will be awarded to her between 8:30 and 9:00 pm.
Hope to meet you there.
Jan
tc and i are going to try to be there, but we have two kids who we suspect of having strep so perhaps only one of us will make it.
oh no! she didnt say I would have to say anything!
shoulda just kept the postcard
"you found me - 2"
:ooh:
you dont know how much your support means to me... a real big sincere thank you
If you're going to do it, do it right. It's good PR and it'll show people who didn't know about it that they can participate next year.
I emailed that Jan (I forget the last name) before the hunt started and asked if she had any information on the past clues. Never heard back.
I guess I didn't ask nicely enough :frown:
Sorry I can't make it tonight, playing poker with the guys from work. Would've been interesting to see their event though, especially since I know who found the medallion.
You just didn't shake it like ares did is all. :sheepish:
actually when i'm contacting the coordinators, in addition to asking for what they've got, i'm letting them know what they get in return. namely the exposure on a 2000 visit/month web site (that really spikes during the winter carnival).
