somthing irking you? pissing you off? rant about it here.

Roommates who are too lazy/stoned to get their done laundry out of the dry, and their (now dried into clumps) laundry out of the washer and into the dryer - when you need to do a load.
the dumbass that made the call, obviously didnt block the number, because I did that old "classic" *69 trick, and then called back the number it came from...
some peoples kids.... makin prank phone calls from work.....
Ok seriously......I look out my front window and the people across the street are decorating their Christmas tree!
So is Christmas going to be a 2 month holiday? I'm not a grinch, it's just that we are bobarded by advertisers WAY too early on their supposed "sales".
I remember Christmas from when I was little.......We got great presents, but I don't remember many.
I remember:
Cutting our own tree after hours of searching for the perfect one.
Baking Christmas cookies with mom and painting the cookies with colored icing.
Candlelight church service on Christmas Eve.
Sledding with my sisters and cousins until our legs gave out.
Ice skating until our toes froze.
Hot chocolate and peppermint sticks.
Mom carefully taking her ornaments out that her mother had made long ago.
Dad building a huge fire in the woodstove that would make us change out of our sweaters and put on shorts.
The dog inevitably eating the cookies we left for Santa.
***I think it's especially important for parents to realize that it's not the time and money you spend on Christmas shopping that is going to make it great for your kids. It's the TIME and TRADITIONS that you GIVE to your kids that will stay with them forever.
Um.... Tates - These threads do have titles for a reason ya know. I didn't come in here to feel all cheery and shit. I was feeling just fine and wanted to be put down a few pegs but Nooooooooo!
I'm rather bummed my church doesn't do a candlelight christmas eve service anymore, but it's always been cool to show up a week after thanksgiving to decorate the place.
Ok seriously......I look out my front window and the people across the street are decorating their Christmas tree!
what's wrong with that? had i been feeling better this weekend, i'd have started putting the christmas lights up on the house. i imagine our tree will be going up next weekend.
forgetting that the trans-siberian orchestra's tickets went on sale saturday morning, and having to settle for tickets that weren't on the floor :frown:
No dishwasher here. Years ago I thought if I had a dishwasher it would change my life. We bought one and I hated it. Was always removing dishes from it and washing them by hand anyway. It ended up being used as a storage place for canning jars until I gave it to my sister.
I love sinking my hands into hot sudsy water and drying glasswear and silverware until it gleams. But I do defer to family members on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I guess it was more of a reflection of how Christmas USED to be. And now it's all about consumerism, keeping up with the Jones', and how stressful it's become now.
I think Christmas sales etc are nothing more then supply and demand.
THe stores on respond to consumers. If we wern't buying it then they wouldn't sell it early.
We hold our family traditions still. And I personaly have never minded seeing lights up around town. It doesn't lessen the holiday for me in the least
The family and I were discussing what weekend was best to go cut our trees. There aren't that many weekends left!
This year I'm getting a skinny tree. That's a running joke in my family. I say that every year and it never fails that I fall in love with the fattest tree in the forest!
Ok just so everyone doesn't think I'm a scrooge, I'll explain better what I mean;
I don't mind seeing lights, I love them actually. It's just that your focus on Christmas didn't usually start until AFTER Thanksgiving. You got to enjoy Halloween for it had to offer, then came Thanks giving, THEN came Christmas. I think everyone kept Christmas much simpler and more pure years ago and so there was no need to get a jump start on the holiday.
Retailers (marketers really) have tried to beat it's competiters in getting a jump on the holiday shopping. Starting their "sales" early, decorating for Christmas, playing x-mas music etc. Consumers have become less savy in seeing through their tactics.
I think people have followed their lead and started the Holiday thing too early. I'm just saying I would like to be able to shop for Halloween supplies without walking past the Christmas display. :eyeroll:
I understand what you're saying. When I was at Target picking up candy for Halloween, Christmas music was playing from the Christmas display next to the Halloween stuff. I tried to block it out. :pbpt:
Oh I didn't mean to imply you were a scrooge :goofy:
Changing of the times has November through New Years made out to be the "Holiday season".
Stores are so big nowadays that there isn't one "holiday or seasonal section"anymore but multiple places to find seasonal stuff.
It does pop out a bit earlier then it used to but people still buy it up. Steph and I were talking about those new snow globes for your yard the other day. Target had them on display the SAME time Halloween went out.
They had two to start off the shelf. They were gone before the first week of October.
The family and I were discussing what weekend was best to go cut our trees. There aren't that many weekends left!
and we're just deciding which weekend it would be best to take our tree out of its box
Target had them on display the SAME time Halloween went out.
no kidding. i'm just hoping they have more of their reel-type light storage boxes this year. i bought 6 of them last year, and could probably use 3-4 more of them. ares has a goal of getting the faa to come knocking on his door because of the new runway
I should be incredibly greatful for families at the holidays- but I hear yah Nick- ... my sister decided she is taking Christmas off this year ---- she is taking her kids to a ski resort cause she is sick of the gift gimmies and spending $1000~ I don't blame her -I think shes got the guts in the family to do it-
I'm taking Thanksgiving off this year. I'm sick of thanking everybody for everything. Time to be selfish damn it! I deserve it. :worried: :eyeroll:
Actually I love Thanksgiving. Unfortunately I'm 'forced' to have both Thanksgiving and Christmas at my house this year since it's my turn. Whatever! There goes another fricken holiday season.
errrrrrrrr
It was rather sick but comical since it was on a floor I didn't live on.
Baked poo. :eyeroll:
I finally figured it out. I'm so proud.
thank god it's night time, and not precious - killing time at work time.
I'd be going out of my mind, and actually be having to work or something.
If Myspace keeps going down, I might just have to open a friendster account for those times when I just need a fix...
the dumbass that made the call, obviously didnt block the number, because I did that old "classic" *69 trick, and then called back the number it came from...

I already wash pots by hand - now I got a couple loads to do before going out tonight -
:frown: YUK!!!!!!!

it came in handy, for that day after x-mas thing, when everything in that section of the store is cheap as hell.....
I wont be decorating for x-mas this year, though.... i'm taking the rest of the year off, as far as holidays are concerned....
I'll just try to be greatful all year instead -
I hear Belize is unbelizeable!!!
