So that may rule out a bunch of parks if you're thinking border means on the edge of the county line.  I'm still torn between a park in New Brighton and Lilydale. I question if they would hide it at Lilydale with one of the trails closed and landslide warnings posted everywhere. Cherokee is still in play. Although border could mean many things like near a Taco Bell? Just thinking out loud here. Lol

2022 Clue #5

3 years 4 months ago

I fell asleep last night before the clue came out, but here is the daily posting nevertheless:

Clue #5

When the buttons showed up, we screamed out ‘what?!?’

Still, we didn’t cancel the order

So when we hid the puck, we pushed our luck

And hid it so close to a border.

Clue #4

An item hot is the current lot

Of at-home tests for COVID

Ours is nice, in block of ice

Inside the medallion's hid

Clue #3

Far from the path that leads to a bath

The treasure waits so alone

Step out of the dark and go to the park

But avoid obstacles of cone

Clue #2

Get out of your bed if you want some hunt cred

Don’t wait ‘til temps hit the 30s

With the prize as your driver be a vigorous striver

For success means a life of ease

Clue #1

From delta to omicron, what a marathon

Getting from last year to this

Strap on your mask, get down to the task

Let fresh treasure be your bliss

Just for the record, even though one of the kids' parks on the south end looks completed, the entire property is fenced in with "No Trespassing" signs.

Eileen Weida Park is the one I saw in my mind's eye.  I popped over there on my way home to refresh my memory.  It is tiny - no bigger than a city block.  There is a cluster of Norway pines but I can't envision that representing any type of obstacle.

I think you're on the right track.  "the path that leads to a bath" = a road or trail that directs you toward a lake or river

Just going back a few years...
2012 at Tony Schmidt the word treasure was included in clue 1, 2 and 32014 at Como, used in Clue 1 and 22015 Snail Lake used in clue 2 and 3
There are many years the word is used multiple times, but these are the examples of it showing up multiple times in the first 3 clues.

Is it unusual to reference the word "treasure" in 2 of the first 3 clues?  I'm thinking that there is a reason behind that.  Couple that with "ease" and "ice" and it's steering me to a particular park that would be "fresh" and "out of the dark."

Another way to interpret Delta & Omicron is their Greek letter symbols.  Delta is a triangle, which often signifies an arrow point.  Omicron is a lower-case "o" which is more ambiguous.  Perhaps the bullseye of a target?  A park with an archery range?

It is highly unusual for the CW to be so blatant about describing what the puck is hidden within.  However, this clue does NOT say that it is encased within a testing kit.  And it's not at all unusual for it to be encased in ice.  The clue associates one "hot item" with another - one that we're all searching for.

A hot item can also refer to a couple… or something stolen.
But I think a double entendre with the hot item ( COVID test box) with a park that could be a couple kinda fits.
Lilly/Dale perhaps?

I think it is meant to be read this way:

An item hot, is the current lot of at home tests for COVID

Offhand it sounds like just a what-is-it-in clue. Although if it is, that adds significance to "the treasure waits so alone" as that would not be such a clue. Maybe it's a reference to 1st St?

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
