July 1990

I was working at "The Barn", Farmstead Antiques in Blaine, and the proprietor's cat had kittens. It had been a couple years since we had to put Beauie to sleep, and I thought we were ready for another pet.

Dan had neglected to tell me that the reason the pet store did not buy this kitty was because he had an open sore. One of the other kittens must have bitten him.

We took our new kitty to the vet to have him checked out, and he also had worms. I guess the mother ran loose, and her main diet consisted of field mice. Great...

You fought hard to stay alive, Maxx.
In the end, though, you couldn't conquer death.
But neither did death conquer you.
Death cures all diseases, mends all broken bones, breaks all chains
And made you free at last.

Maxx left us yesterday, and it was the
coldest

June 4th on record. To me, that means something.
I'm just not sure what.

Enjoy each day with your pet. We knew for a couple years that Maxx had kidney disease, but I NEVERwould have expected an abrupt one day downturn in his health.

I miss him SO much. I was doing okay today until I started editing this. They say that grief may last for awhile. I certainly believe that to be true.

I work very different hours. My normal starting time is 4:00 am. Some days I start at 1:00 am and some days I start at 2:30 am. I get up 1-1/2 hours prior, so that can be anywhere from 11;30 pm to 2:30 am. My alarm meant chow time to Maxx, and usually he was waiting for me. Even though he had food, we would walk downstairs, top off his bowl, and get fresh water.

When I get up in the morning, I still expect him to be waiting for me. He's not there.

I had the privelege of meeting Maxx, he was definitely a character. I have lost 3 of my cats, and I miss them desperately. I know Maxx was part of the family, and just know that I am so sorry for your pain. I love you all.

You have to love cats that love kids. Both of mine love my boys. They tolerate things from the boys that they wouldn't normaly let fly with anyone else in terms of playing with, sitting on, teasing etc

:-(

I forgot about ol Maxx

You understand - I would assume even more so because it involves the kids.  I remember when Alibabas lost her first caterpillar - it was heart wrenching as a parent.  We both cried - For a caterpillar!  ha

I gotta tell this fast story.....

2 summers ago...I was driving across from MORA to 35W taking the back roads because I grew up in that area and know a little shortcut....It was raining...has been for a full day.....one of those days it just comes down light but forever.

All of a sudden I saw something walking on the side of the road and just didn't look right. I stopped the car and my wife asked what was wrong....I said I don't know and got outta the car. I stood outside for a while and then saw what I was looking for in the weeds....was a little kitten. I picked her up and got back in my car.....I figured I'd just find the nearest farm and bring her back....well 2 miles one way....nothing....turn around.....2 miles the other way...nothing.

I then continued on our trip to the cabin......I figured my wife's aunt would be able to help since she is works with the Burnett County Humanee Society....She said they were full :(

so....we went to the vet.....spent over $100...maybe a lot more on shots, etc.....After talking to the vet I made the unhappy decision to adopt her on my own.....I was upset at the time because we have a cat and a black lab.

Anyways ....She has became a large part of our family....I even learned to love her...(i didn't like cats)....

...but this spring...my wife stated letting her go outside.....well....one day she never came back.....

to this day...my daughter still asks when she will come home.....I just hate telling her that she might never come back......but I still tell her the truth as to what could of happened.....not fun...but a fact of life.....at times it makes me sad that Katie still keeps asking what happen to "SANDY" but......it makes me very happy to know that she was part of our lifes for a short period of time......

None, NONE, N-0-N-E!!!, of my cats go outside.  Ever.  EVER.  Too much can happen.

Now Pickles, he goes out.  But ALWAYS on his leash.  But he's a Puggy.

There is no way I would ever ever EVER allow any of my children out with out supervision, i.e., on a leash, caged, whatever.  And I'm always with them.

They are my life.

well....one day she never came back.....

That's a good thing about most outdoor cats.  Although, the explaining part to the kids does prove difficult.  For the parents  :-)
