Dunno... the only rapids ive ever been on, was the ones at the Apple River.... and those ones have been weak, every time.

Yeah, but a weekend of camping at the HideAway makes up for weak rapids....

Won't be at Riverwind -- there is no place to hide anything there, no real trees only scrubby bushes.
I checked it out when I was placing my geocaches in the CR area -- It will either be at Bunkers (which belongs to Anoka county - did the rules say city property?), Lions park or Erlandson are good bets, maybe Lundgren.
I am from Anoka area and have geocached Coon Rapids parks pretty thouroughly but have never hunted the Snowflake medallion...... off to get a button today

The following rules apply for 2003 –

    1) You must have a 2003 Snowflake Days button to win.

    2) You must register with the Coon Rapids Fire Department or at the businesses listed above by completing a Search Team Application.

    3) Deadline for registration is February 14, 2003.

    4) The medallion will be hidden on city property.

    5) Any destruction of city property during your search will disqualify you.

    6) 2003 Snowflake Association members and their immediate families and the Coon Rapids Firefighters and their immediate families are not eligible to participate in or win the medallion hunt.

The pre-registered search team member who finds and returns the Medallion, along with Lester and Connie, will earn the $1,000 reward. To claim the reward, call Mike at 763-422-1936.

.....The pre-registered search team member who finds and returns the Medallion, along with Lester and Connie, will earn the $1,000 reward.....

Does anyone know who or what Lester and Connie are?

I have my button ($2.00) and registered it, but I have not yet registered my "team" (of one). Since the registration deadline is so far off I don't expect it will be found before then. (wonder what they would do if i found it on the 13th THEN registered?)

clue #2 rules out Erlandson (one of my picks) I have to go do some drive-bys later.

I did a search on the web and Plymouth is also having a "Where's Lester" scavenger hunt ($500 prize) -- they are already on clue #5 (one each week), but you had to be signed up in December for it.

I am assuming the medallion will be found with "Lester and Connie" in the near vicinity -- easy - probably bigger than a geocache.

lester and connie are the smoke detector & carbon detector that the medalion is attatched to. sounds like it should be easy to find?

I found the "Dunn house" but am still working the "white city" clue - Grouse is pretty obvious.

I found the brick factory. Also still figuring out what the "call of the north" must be? I have a sususpicion but it does not make sense from this map I have.

I checked out Lions park briefly since it was in my top picks originally and is right next to Grouse street -- it could still be possible depending on the white city clue

Unbelievable how Hoover is strangly absent from their Park lists! And virtually no mention on the Coon Rapids city site, very curious indeed! I did a search for Hoover and came up with 3 results- Dare Officers, Precinct Locations, and Schools. There was about one paragraph about the park on the Schools home page, under Building and Facilities.

" HOOVER SCHOOL PARK GRAND OPENING
    AUGUST 29, 1982

In 1982 the city of Coon Rapids joined with Independent School District No. 11 to "create a barrier-free recreation and athletic facility designed to promote integration of humans by eliminating physical and psychological barriers." This project included: hard-surfaced trails connecting all recreational areas, playground equipment for the able-bodied and handicapped, a regulation 400 meter athletic track to accommodate Special Olympic meets and track events, regulation size and wheelchair softball fields, a Vita fitness trail, three tennis courts, a soccer and football field, and wheel-chair-accessible paved trails. This project was jointly funded by the City of Coon Rapids, Independent School District No. 11, and recreational grants from the State of Minnesota, and the federal government. We recently replaced all of our playground equipment. It looks great and is lots of fun! Come and use it!"

Several school type parks are missing from the lists. We drove by 3 different possibles yesterday afternoon trying to make the playground clue fit, but they were all swarming with kids. ("no officer, I am not the pervy weirdo you are looking for")

We saw a couple of what could have been medallion hunters out, but they were not friendly and tried to chase us off (as if!) -- I tossed out one of my Centris geocaching tokens near where I was searching -- will make somebody go "huh?" -- hehehe

Unfortunately I have ds/6 home sick with flu today -- trying to figure out how to med hunt this morning. aaaagh

I don't know about this hunt, but would they put it near a school? It's a city deal, so you have a right to be there. May learn that it's NOTnear a school?

BTW, I'm stuck here at work, then have to take care of anothersick car. Kollin's 95 Escort is the only one of 4 cars to stay out of the shop in the last month.

  • Mine: $500 & $250
  • Micki: $350 & $200
  • Kris: $1200 & $500

It is really hard to make the "green, red, blue" thing fit in any park south of the "tracks" and west of 'CCO -- lots of playground combos out there that don't fit -- Lots and lots of brown and tan playgrounds. I am almost ready to read "red" into the stitching around the basketball net, and "green" into the grass under the snow .
Also, it did not exactly say RR "tracks" so it could still be a northern park.

The woods at Al Flynn are very tempting and we saw dig marks going over, but the playground is the wrong colors (unless I missed it) -- however, if they have a tennis clue next then this will be it.

Still no babysitter for ds/6 but I will be out hunting with Jon sometime today for sure -- We probably don't have a prayer now that some of the Coolers are on the hunt (pout face)

Did another quick drive by this morning -- ALL clues fit in LOJ and as a bonus, there was a police officer sitting in his squad car in the parking lot watching over the wooded area.

And Key st. goes into Hoover!

But I would forsure think it one of those!

    See you out there centris!

    Tue, 02/11/2003 - 11:26 AM Permalink
    Centris

Well that makes sense too --- actually you can see the Dunn house site from where I was digging this morning -- it is just north (barely). I found a good cache site though - yippee!

When I went out to Hoover today it was swarming with kids so I passed it by, but I will get out there pretty quick. (did you register yet?)
.........remember I am a "semi-pro" geocacher (however, not world class like Ian - LOL) but still a newbie medallion hunter ;-)

Brick mailbox is located at 2150 108th Ave NW right across from the Twin field park. About 80 people out there this afternoon at 2pm - we are going back in about 20 min.
I have spent the past 3 hours digging out all around a (tri/try) aquafir spout and a tree I think will be the "back to back Black" they are talking about..... still no luck.
Left a Centris geo-token in the tree and one in the spout. (marking my territory - hehehe) Nobody was searching as far north as I was though -- maybe I am way off.

I think this must be THE park since there was a TV crew that set up and started filming me while I was digging. I didn't even notice them until some guy pointed them out to me and asked why they were filming me. ( and I looked so very lovely today -- NOT) I did a brief interview, but they kept following me until I had to ask them to leave because it made me nervous.
Why pick me at my spot and not somebody else in the park??? It's a mystery.

My problem is that I think like a geocacher and tend to hunt out weird little hidey-holes in trees and stumps -- probably not where the medallion is........ but I found another really great geocache site.
Pretty sure I saw Marley driving past Hoover today (big van?) I waved but I don't think you saw me.

    Marleyking

Yep thay was me centris in a BIG BLUE van!
Wow sorry I didnt see you. I was looking for the dam brick mail stand.
Found the 21's at hoover and at L o but never found the brick mail stand. So I went to work!

Cool did everything else fit Twin Field Park!
Artemis has that one on her list but I have not checked it out!
Guess I will go there in the morn!

Make sure you post here if you know if someone found it!
No not registered yet! (tomorrow morn)
    You?

    Tue, 02/11/2003 - 5:40 PM Permalink
    Centris

Yes it was you I saw -- I am in a green Lumina
and.. Yes I am registered -- wish it was easy like the WC hunt

I only found 2 aquifers at Twin though - both are pretty dug out, lots of ice at the southern one and we dug out the northern one pretty well while everybody else was busy being excited about the first one. I may be missing one, but I didn't see aquifer #3.
Didn't find any black 21's forward or backward -- so it still may be at Hoover, but I never saw any brick mailboxes near there.

Does the aquifier clue fit there either? Going out on a limb -- CR has 3 water towers, can you see one from Hoover?

Missed seeing myself on the news :-(

    Marleyking

    What channel news was it?!

Where did you get the search team app. I have been 3 places with no luck! cub, rainbow and 1 firestation. ("your looking for what")

I like the water tower idea!
    I was thinking fire hydrants!
    And adresses for 21!
And I looked everywhere at hoover and l o! No brick mailbox stand!
I cant wait to see track in the morn.I want to atleast be in the right park before it is found!

    Tue, 02/11/2003 - 8:55 PM Permalink
    Centris

I filled out mine on Monday at the Firestation behind Family Center Mall off of Crooked Lake. It was the first place I found that even knew there was a hunt going on. Look for a bright pink sheet with dozens of fire safety questions on it -- takes about 5 minutes to fill the whole thing out.

I ran into the same problem as you did at Rainbow and Cub and I also tried at the Mobil10 station that was listed. It is a real hassle - everyone looks at you and says "huh?"

Hopefully I will be there when it is found by an unregistered hunter and they will cut me in on the goodies.
     ::::crossing fingers:::::

I am also still thinking about the tracks clue. The clue says "south of the tracks to pass the test" which said school to me and pointed toward Hoover or LOJ. But...... It does not specifically say RR tracks - it could be a running track at a school (like CRHS).
