2003 Redbear Mock Hunt

Submitted by THX 1138 on

Prize: 1 flashlight
Hunt duration: until the snow melts

Clue: only 1 clue!

11 at 10, it started the race
'tween Bear and Marley to the flag place
but along the way,
I'm sad to say,
I dropped my lucky light somewhere in white space.

If you begin at the main entrance, seeing the flag pole,
look for large bear tracks that make big holes.
follow them down, straight as you please,
and look 'till you're en-lightened with great ease.

Marleyking

Wow already!! (I thought I was a addict) hehe

Thats ok I had a couple days of rest!

Whaaawhoooo!

More practice for 2004!

So are we looking for a bear?
neat idea about 'helping fellow hunters to get additional clues'

I am a 'mwk' but I just bring them along with
or hunt while they are in school so how does this help me? it doesnt.

Congratulations on being an MWK!

Unfortunately, it doesn't, as you are clever to hunt during non-child rearing times or by addicting them as well. However, you can find an MWK, arrange for appropriate child care (re: Not a video and six candy bars) and get a supplemental clue.

hopefully these will be challenging enough to keep you all interested and prep accordingly for 2004 and for more popular mock hunts like allison wonderland's.

to begin with. Marley was dead: that clever rapscallion
it was he, not the bear, who found kilty's medallion
Spriung is sprunging, wedding bells will be ringing
and March Madness is soon near.

But don't despair - here's some help from the Bear:
if you read this, you've gone too far.

Yep "Marley's 2nd Mock Hunt" WILL happen sometime this year!(hopefully after AW's) ; > )

My coin is out there right now (and has been since jan 7th 2003) and is worth $100.00 without the clues!

I'm taking a shot in the dark that it's not in the woods @ como --
Have you checked on your coin?
I think it will be funny if someone finds yours during AW's hunt. LOL

Bear,
are all of your clues going to come out approx @ 10pm? or just this one?
Is there a prize at stake?

Sat, 02/22/2003 - 8:55 AM Permalink
Redbear

Digger,

Sure there's a prize! Honor, for one. Timberwolves tickets ($140 value) for two. I'm trying to persuade someone to include a goodybasket the likes of which will include some cool stuff.

But really, honor in success - isn't that the most important prize of all?

Yes my coin has been checked on!!

I hope nobody finds on any other hunt! But if so cool!

And you are right redbear!

I will Call you chris!

I am a 'mwk' but I just bring them along with or hunt while they are in school so how does this help me? it doesnt.

It's not supposed to help you out. It's supposed to help the person who helps you, if you actually needed help.

But really, honor in success - isn't that the most important prize of all?

Yes, but a prize still helps. It tends to be the difference between sitting at your computer having fun just playing with the clues and making some time and working up the ambition to go out and actually put some effort into looking for it. I'm still trying to work on bumping up the prize for my own hunt. Now that I have a new job I may be able to contribute myself a bit more. If only I had some product to sell...

My coin is already hidden. I did go check on it the day it was really warm, and it seems to be pretty safe and secure now. I think mine will be a good hunt. Between the hiding spot and the clues, I could see it going anywhere from 2 to 12 clues depending on how clever people are.

so we can expect to see an anagram of "the woods at como" in the second clue then? :)

Sat, 02/22/2003 - 9:45 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

It's not at Como! I can say that safely about my own hunt at least. It's in the rules. It's not at Como! Just because I said so.

Marley was dead

Ya know Bear, (being with Marley for 10 years)I really don't like that phrase in the clue, its one of my constant fears. If it's not part of your "code" I'm gonna be mad! ;-)

That said...

Marley and I were talking about the possibility of all 3 coins being hid in the same park and same general vicinity. That would be hilarious, especially if they're all found within their respective hunts!

a year has passed since I wrote this note
but I should have known it right from the start.
Recent No Doubt
Gives serious clout
but for The hunt, think Old School.

Hmmmmm, not the best poetry I've seen, hehe. I wonder if the misspelling in line 3 is intentional? Otherwise not sure what to make of it yet.

Clue #2

The first two lines are from the Police song, "Message in a Bottle".

Recent No Doubt could be "Underneath It All"?

Good catch on the Police tune AW!

Recent No Doubt could be "Underneath It All"?

You're probably right AW, that song is considered to be more like their old school style than the rest of the album.

Their "Old School" albums would be THE BEACON STREET COLLECTION (1995)
[BLUE IN THE FACE - BY THE WAY - DOGHOUSE - GREENER PASTURES - OPEN THE GATE - SNAKES - STRICKEN - SQUEAL - THAT'S JUST ME - TOTAL HATE '95].
or
NO DOUBT (1992)
[ACHE - A LITTLE SOMETHING REFRESHING - BIG CITY TRAIN - BND - BRAND NEW DAY - DOORMAT - GET ON THE BALL - LET'S GET BACK - MOVE ON - PAULINA - SAD FOR ME - SINKING - SOMETIMES - TRAPPED IN A BOX].

A "Message in a Bottle" "Trapped in a Box"?

Theres Beacon St that goes into dickerman park , which is pretty small. Or theres the beacon at IM.

or maybe "Old School"? ;)

Actually we were talking about Indian Mounds.

There's an old school that isn't around anymore. There's a small playground on the site now.

There's also Central that was rehabbed and has a new look though the old school is still underneath it all.

The meaning of life, now that’s a search
It’s the small details that’ll give you a lurch
Cold beer, MNF, the look in her eye,
That thirty years later still makes you cry.
It’s the latter for which this bear is hunting,
Because sometimes love really means nothing.

Yeah, I know. Mounds Park Academy is actually in maplewood - it was originally suppoused to be in Mounds Park but never materialized there.

Ryan Park on Thomas and Grotto? It's where the old Drew School used to stand. It was an elementary public school.

Maybe it's Thomas and Avon.

I didn't know that Bear, isn't there an old brick school at Mounds Park? Like Mounds Park Elementary?

Thanks Ter :-)

The meaning of life, now that’s a search

a church
beer brewery
football field
'look in her eye' could be a anything from anger to love to sadness--
but I found this that s funny cause it has the BEACON in it ...:)

From the Look in her Eye

I caught her glance, as I walked passed. She was all beauty and fire and grace. The beauty was in features and from her eyes shined like watch beacons. The grace was in her every move, not a studied grace, but grace as nature had bestowed it. Her movement was what movement aspired to be: fluid, lithe, floating. She was a dream,
half tiger pouncing, half red-tail hawk gliding past, and all woman. The fire was in her heart and sparked out her eyes with the look she gave. Intimidated and entranced, I said nothing but continued walking, and when sufficiently far along, I snuck a glance back to take a look with a different view. To my surprise, she was
standing facing me with a smile on her lips, looking at me in frank appraisal. I froze, knowing that I was the prey and she the hunter(Artemis?) who had me cornered and dazzled. I could move not, I but waited for her to come and collect her trophy.

Artemis - the only school I know of thats anyplace close to Mounds park, is on the corner of 3rd and Earl... right accross from Dairy Queen, if your familiar with the area, at all. Its called Mounds Park, Indian magnet... or somethin like that.. It was closed a buncha years, and re-opened when I was a lil kid.
