1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Treasure Digger

Was up talking here last night. The words "trees in a line" if mixed up, you can spell the words "St. Eileen". Any thoughts?

I'm one of those types that reads way into the clues. I been looking daily at Newell but now I;m leaning towards BC.

The ROCK went to Newell Park late last nite...to the devil's den

Linwood?, streets named after trees?

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 8:44 AM Permalink
Treasure Digger

Oh, another thought. "Trees - line" or "line - tree" ... Lin - wood.

Is there a St Eileen street?

Hi Treasure Digger - I remember meeting you - Real tough clues this year - were going on number 8 and doesn't seem like anyone has a firm grap of the clues. I was

at Cherokee last year by the fourth clue. There making us work a little this year

Can't remember the last time this late in the game that I was not 100% sure of the park, and it's been 19 years.

No St. Eileen that I can found. But you can spell out the word "Saint" out of those words. Just other ways to play with the letters.

Still leaning towards Highland but I am going to check out Merriam, Linwood, The Mall and as crazy as it seems, even Swede Hollow.

Some people last night thought first was fir st. but I don't

Medallion and Jill, I agree with both of you. They definitely want us to work at the clues this year. I like it a lot easier when we have a definite idea of a park, but my

hubby went to Highland and video taped the park. Boy, is it ever huge. Without a specific clue we're going to have a very hard time locating the medallion. I'm

surprise the clues haven't mentioned "water" yet. That's the first.

MW, where's Fir St.?

Good morning, DD!

I don't think there is water near the park this year.

Merriam made sense to me...a tome is one of the books in a work of several volumes...a dictionary...MERRIAM-Webster .... there is Merriam Library there and

that is where you yearn to learn...an iconoclast is one who overthrows traditional or popular ideas...etc....so I think it will be at a park it has never been at

before...out with the old in with the new.....??

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 8:53 AM Permalink
Medallionhound

I am not even sure that the Den exists except in someones imagination.

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 8:54 AM Permalink
Downtown Dave

I also noted the lack of the word "water" in the clues.... In fact reference to "trees" is the first mention of any kind of natural formation at all. Usually these things are

"throwaway" mentions in clues one or two. Thats what had me searching the more urban parks early, but further clues have not been helping......

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 8:54 AM Permalink
Treasure Digger

I mentioned this before. Has anyone noticed the fact that the clues have said "figure this out" several times? Isn't there a computer language called Pascal? If my

college years serve me right, I'm pretty sure there is.

I going to chcek out Linwood today. See if I can make any sense of the clues there. Anybody checked out that park lately

Medallionhound, several different people referenced Devil's Den. Said something about it being in a park but in an area through lots of trees and coming upon the

sign that said "Devils Den".

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 8:56 AM Permalink
Downtown Dave

Run a search on "Devils Den" on these pages and you will see that certain indivicuals spent over six hours rehashing the same theory yesterday, and probably before

that. I can't say for sure its not there, but in if its in a small corner of small Newell Park, for goodness sake these folks should have found it already!!!!

They are definitely adding a lot more informatin into these clues that previously -- or it seems that way. Usually, you can only get one hint out of a clue, but this year it

seems we can get at least 2 out of one. Go figure!

Nice thought TD--Might be a bit of a stretch-kind of waiting for this fog to end before searching--can't see anything downtown today...parade will be a tought one!!!

Anyway, Highland is so large it will be tough to search with the info at this point. Of course even a blind squirelll occaisionally finds a nut!

Treasure Digger

Well, I going digging for more information all those "20" other parks. I'll check in with you fellow hunters tonight around clue time. (And it better be a good one!!!!!)

DD, I agree. Highland is HUGE. Will be total luck is someone finds it today. But what do I know. I can't even really decide on a park anymore. Happy hunting!!

Hi Bandit! How are ya?

Was at Newell and Linwood last night. Haven't ruled either of them out.

How was Chair-o-key Park the other night? Where else have you looked, Bandit?

Hey everyone:

Haven't wanted to go through the 5K+ posts I missed since waiting for the WebCrosser Deluxe to work right again! What are the popular theories to trees in a line?

The Linwood idea makes sense, but does that lead to a "Valuable sign"?
