Most recent progress on The Ferminator. This is the heart of the system, the themostat hooked to the cooling fan. I plan to install it into the box tommorow night.
Well, I went to make a starter for the Cream Ale I plan to brew this weekend. Put my 1000 ml flask on the stovetop, added some DME, and turned on the flame. I turned my back to get something and heard a "pop." I turned back and the flask had burst at the bottom. 15 minutes of sticky clean up later, and I'm out 1 flask.
This doesn't really count as a brewing gadget, but Widmer Brothers Brewinghas a fun beer golf game. The "free stuff" contest doesn't appear to work, but the game is kinda fun.
It's not a brewing gadget, but it's a gadget nonetheless. My wife just bid on this on ebay. She won it for $13 and said "Merry Christmas."
A little history. I used to have a nice old black workman's lunchbox from the 40s. A real Fred Flintstone/Ralph Kramden type, pretty much exactly like this
I used it as a lunch box for a few years, but it got lost one night after work during happy hour. So she was looking to replace it and came across this thing.
Just order up a few different Irish beers today and you might see the light. Even if the weather does suck down there today, you'll still have fun trying.
I started construction of The Ferminator this weekend. Here are some pics of the partially assembled unit.

Oh, and Artemis, thanks for noticing. Wink wink.

Was the flask or the DME cold by any chance? Glass has this funny habit of going "pop" when it is subjected to sudden temperature change...
At least you weren't holding it up to your face to look at the contents when it popped.
The glass and the dme were both at room temp.
Fracture in the glass? Weak spot? Poltergeists? Dunno.
(Makes note not to stand near the stove during yeast starting)
Earl, we've got a poultrygeist!
Bioreactor!
About half-way down the page.
No, Frosti, you can't buy one just yet.
Figure 2 Schematic presentation of the experimental gas-lift biorector
Looks simple enough, let's build one! As a side note, wouldn't Bioreactor! be a good name for a band?

one of my favorite hefeweizens
I don't think I've ever had one of their beers. But for some reason, I have a pint glass or two with their logo on it.
tough to beat a cold widmers with a lemon wheel on a warm summer night. i haven't had any of their other beers, but that one is worth a try
Thanks, I'll have to check them out. I know I've got a good glass for it...

Hunh. Kind of looks like a shoe polish kit or something. :) I'm sure it will fit your eclectic individual style quite well. Merry Xmas!
Eclectic individual style. That's a euphemism for "has absolutely no style at all" isn't it?
Uh, no. You definitely have one. And it's both eclectic and highly individualized. :)
Stop that!
Cool place ya got here Frosti. I found it when looking for a place to post this. Any idea what it is?

Some kind of marital aid?
one-track mind, eh.
Obviously it's a transponder for government tracking of subversives.
Anybody else? Notice the thread title if that helps.
CM...I'll work on it when I get back to work...

Just in time for us to get dumped on.
Is it a stout creamer faucet?
Good guess. It does reduce carbonation tho.
