I happen to agree with Me2... isn't a matter of allowing eachother to do anything. I could care less if you brought home a playboy. I just ask that it isn't anywhere where the kids can see it...

I was gonna post the same thing. Good job on the correction. I have the same one.

Nice bbq pix Z-man!

Grab your hotdogs and marshmallows and head over to 494 by the mall if ya wanna cook over a real ol' fashioned city fire. There wasn't even a rescue squad there yet. Plenty of time but traffic might be a bitch.

I'd go back but I locked my damn keys in the car. Luckily I have triple coverage. I'm thinking on calling all 3 and seeing which one gives me the quickest arrival time.

how can a person prevent that?

what the hell starts a carfire?

oh sorry to hear about your keys - chalk it up to sh!t happens :frown: and at least you're not in a hurry to be anywhere

Bummer about the keys, but at least your car isn't on fire.

I suspect it's the heat out, cars are spontaneously combusting. (Seriously I'm not sure, gas line has a leak near the engine perhaps? beyond that, once you get a fire started in an engine, it's pretty hard to put out)

I'm in. If it wasn't for the guys tow truck not fitting in the ramp I would have had my keys in 30 minutes from 1st call to keys in hand. Pretty good. AAA is a bit more expensive than Amoco but had faster response time. At least I know my car alarm works just fine. As soon as he stuck a tool down into the door the thing went off. He did have to use a couple of diffent tools to finally get it done tho because of the electric locks and side airbags.

Not sure what causes a car fire just assuming it has something to do with either leaking oil or gas. Maybe an electrical issue as well. I know that's what started my last car to smoke up a storm when my receiver fuse block shorted out.

When I was in high school...(one of my first 12 or so cars)...I had a truck that started on fire do to wiring issues....

the first thing I did was open the hood (was told I got lucky)...and was lucky I had a hammer in my truck...I then hammered the battery cable free....

I was then able to put out the fire with a blanket... but by then my truck was already a total mess with melted wires...

Thank god I was good friend with the "demo boys" I traded my truck for another hunk of junk.

I had something similar happen with my Camaro... At home I had a cheap little car jack, and would lift it up under the radiator support with no trouble (dont do that), but one day I had to lift it at work. I worked in the body shop at Harold Chevrolet and they had real nice fast lift jacks there. SO I lifted it in the same spot (dont do that)... with the high speed, it added extra force and bent the support. unfortunately, that also stopped one of the fans from spinning... (electric fans)... It was like 2 weeks later that I finally found out where that burning smell was coming from.... I just pulled into my parents driveway and the flames were coming out from under the hood. I opened up the hood, went over and grabbed some snow from the yard, and ended up dumping it on it to put the fire out... not having much confidence in my electrical ability (stupid) I sold the car for $500 (dumber) and bought another guys Dodge Aries Wagon (dumbest)... I had it for about a month or 2, when it lost control on the ice (damn front wheel drive) and I totalled it... funny thing is, the truck I hit only had her bumper move in about an inch and a half... barely hit her quarter panel...

Most car fires, I have heard, start from electrical problems... they over heat and combust...

Now I am depressed and want my Camaro back :frown: Thanks guys...

But it can't hold a candle to my Geo Prizm... :eyeroll:

We had a car fire once. It was caused by the carburator that had decided to start spewing gas. We happened to be following a car without a hood going down Pierce Butler and thought the gas odor was coming from that vehicle. Once we stopped, there were flames shooting all over the place. Luckily there was a business with fire extinguishers available and they managed to get the fire out.

The insurance company paid to fix it and about 3 weeks later, it was good as new.

Last Monday night there were fireworks down on Harriet Island. I drove down there. Security wouldn't allow anyone on the Island. He said it was a 'private party' - about 12 busloads of people and a few police cars directing traffic. Heard it was Randy Kelly announcing he is running again for mayor but I don't know.
