1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Confused this year

Clue explainations are on the main PP page. Two frozen places were the two hockey rinks. Were there 2 hockey rinks or 1 rink and another pleasure skating rink?

I"ve been monitoring the water cooler for a week, and I say GoodLuck Aaron, but I hope your not the guy a little while ago .He was a CREEP!! Cant wait to see the

thing it was found in. At 2 I was chopping with my KILIE,an aborigine throw stick at 2nd to 3rd base. I was only 50 ft away.I thought it was cool to have a modern

THROW STICK made of bullet proof LEXAN!! to do my digging with .Because it is made of almost the same material as the medallion, but it didnt help me. Now

everyone relax those fingers. GOOD NIGHT...

Hey Grant there is a thought! can you imagine the crowds? maybe someday they will come up with something like that. I think that is a great idea!!!!!

Yeah Kara, but I thought of one problem, there is no snow to cover it with. It would be to easy to find.

Grant, there is always ways to hide something. White bear lake does it every summer.

For anyone who would like to rehash the clues and commisserate with other hunters, there is going to be a rehash bash this Sunday at 11:30 am. Because Conway

does not have the facilities for a picnic, we will select another park nearby - probably Battle Creek. If you would like to attend, please e-mail green to let her know

you'll be there and what you'll be bringing to share.

We will post the park as soon as we have finalized the plan.

OK. First off, congratulations to this Aaron guy. I hope you are a long time medallion hunter, or at least a dedicated one. If you are just one of these people who

found out there was a medallion hunt, one night ago on the news, I hope you die! The news stations should be f***king boycotted for this whole thing. To give out

clues on the air, to tell the world (the non-hunting world) where everyone was at ,and why was uncalled for and unforgivable. Local news people, you will be

remembered when it comes time for re-election. Out with Diana Pierce, DIE! DIE! DIE! Don Shelby! Go to hell Jeff Passolt!!! You all suck! KS95 can suck my

medallion!!!!!!! Joe Soucheray, you suck too!!!! If you are local and of the news persuasion, you get the point!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, the medallion hunter who was

interviewed and told the world where he thought it was hidden and why, I will find you next year and bury you!!!

-there, now I can rest in peace-

Love the rest of you, till next year!

FOUL!!!!!

1) The water tower is not on 3M property, but across McKnight from 3M.

2) The Clue said "peak" - NOT PEAKS!!! as in the xplination. Too, that peak(s) is NOT translucent, but izz transparent!!! Trees on the

opposite side from the park could bee seen thru the glass.

3) Hockey rinks were *not* of same size - but the two football fields were.

Yea, yea, yea. Say "Sour grapes" as much as you like... But... ittiz not. Ittiz a question of semantics...

The clue writer was off base. Translucent was used incorrectly, square footage of area was used incorrectly, and the physical location of

an item was used incorrectly.

Yup. You're rite. Someone *did* find The Med based on the clues. I cannot argue that.

Otay. So we're *not* to take things literally? Like, when ittiz said "translucent" we can just bend the truth and shrug and say, "Well,

*transparent's* otay because The Clue Writer doesn't know any better. And I bet ittiz supposed to be *peak* even tho I can SEE two,

which in *my* mind comes out to "peaks" - but ittiz an optical allusion. The Clue Writer's an idiot and doesn't know any better to get it

right."

Rite.

You know, it would help ssssoooo much if the clues *really* matched the given answers/meanings.

Whoops! Sorry! Being WWWWAAAAYYY too literal here...

NOT!

God I hate when that happens. I was out Sunday digging behind field 4. And gave up because I figured it would be more towards the Southeast corner (after seeing

the True Value sign).

Green, the Sun-Ray peaks appear to be translucent to me. They're obviously not transparent because one can't get a clear view through them, and they're not

opaque becasue one can see something through them. That leaves only translucent. Also, from field 4, the peaks appear to be one, as the southernmost one couldn't

be seen IIRC.

See y'all next year.

Does anyone know how many messages hit the water cooler last year during the search

WELL IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED. JUST GOT BACK FROM HAVING A FEW DRINKS. IM KINDA PISSED BECAUSE WE WERE DIGGING

NEXT TO EACHOTHER AND I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE 954 CLUE AND WHAT SIDE OF THE PARK IT WAS ON. THAT AARON IS QUITE A

CHARATER. HES PRETTY FUNNY. WE TALKED AND DUG TOGETHER. THEN HE TAPPED ME ON THE SHOULDER AND SAID LOOK. HE

HAD IT IN HIS HAND AND I ASKED HIM IF I COULD SEE WHAT THE MEDALLION LOOKED LIKE. NO BIGGER THAN A HALF A DOLLAR.

IT WAS IN A LITTLE KNITTED POUCH. HE TOLD ME NOT TO TELL ANYONE AT THE PARK BUT I THINK THEY FIGURED IT OUT WHEN I

WAS SWEARING SO MUCH WHILE I WAS WALKING BY THEM. OH WELL THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT YEAR!!

Terry, where do you think I could find one of green's posts to get her email. She hasn't been posting very often, and usually they are too small and subtle to notice.

Say, aren't the baseball parks on the WEST side of the park??? What's with that clue explanation saying something about 'orient'? Am I just bass ackwards? I mean,

I thought about the orient/east thing, but the other side of the park seemed to fit in better this year . . .

Aaron,....or Anyone who knows! If you're around - were you closer to the bench or the tree? In front of the House or off to one side. I was digging there this

morning and want to know how close I actually was. Thanks.

GREEN - How do I get my text to look all cool like yours? I know how to make it bold and what not, but bigger size and different color?

Or is it to complicated to explain on the cooler?

stallion, you can change the color by typing HTML in the message window. If you don't know HTML (like me) click on the HTML link above your message

Ares....

Sollie, Cha-lie. Transparent.

I wrote those puppies - NOTE: PLURAL... (ahhhh-hemmm....) off on... Lettuce see... Yesterday! It was foggy on Monday.

Yesterday, you could clearly see the trees beyond - to the south - those... WHOOPS!!! *that* peak. No brainer. See trees = transparent.

Ares, I was digging w/a minimum of one folk that was really hung up on the SunRay pyramids. But because of the clue, "TRANSLUCENT" and because I could

PROVE (see above, trees) it was "TRANSPARENT" we nixed the idea. And you must admit - there WAS a "translucent" *peak* well within sight.

No matter what, no matter WHAT, the Clue Writer did NOT use the correct word/wording. Especially when you realize there was truly a "translucent peak" - AND

IT WAS SINGULAR - well within sight of where The Med was found.

Again, still I say,

FOUL!!!

Well, this was my first year trying, and I never even made it out to the park, which is what depresses me the most. Too many meetings, kid activities, and kids

homework this week. But I'm definitely in for next year, and thanks to all you guys I know more about interpreting clues and how to get started. Thanks, everyone,

and see you next year!

To the one who asked, the orient referred only to the park being on the east side of St. Paul, not the east side of the park. I just read the clue explanations.

I'm sooooo happy the torture is over!!! That's what it was this year!!! Get a new clue writer!!! Explanations are LAME!!! I agree "orient" should have meant the east

side of the park - not "east" side of St. Paul - - especially in CLUE #9 (maybe Clue 2 or 3)!!! BAD!!

Not to mention the St. Paul cops were out giving parking tickets today. How bad is that!!! Where were we to park??? Support the Winter Carnival and bam - as

bad as the "crappie cop"!!!

Was Aaron a "WaterHead"???

See ya next year!!

Just saw Aaron's news conference on CH 9. He had NEVER hunted for the medallion before - Conway was across the street from his buddies apartment - that's

the ONLY reason he went out and looked. JHEEEEEZ! He didn't even have a button!! I would have offered to turn it in for him - for a nominal fee of course.

Sorry for being such a NEWELL supporter in the early going - hope that didn't hurt anyone's chances. Then again - the clues this year were bizarre. Being on the

cooler was better this year than last year. This was fun - and frustrating.

Good luck to everyone in adjusting to the stark reality ahead.
