It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

NAW! Clue 11 in the 1994 hunt-last line.
......now should you sing a doleful song instead you ought to hum here.
This is a reference to Otto Hummer Drive which is like a cul-de-sac that goes around the police station and the pool in Highland park!
however if I could have looked in the pool-I would have......:)
Marning, Hunters! Annudder start to a week (sigh).
Scribe... MomPress does *NOT* let you keep The Medallion... Nope. You'll have to put a picture o'it on your mantle. You gotts to give it bock, and really fast,
too. As soon as you find it, you have to high-tail it off to The 'Press Building and turn it in. Yup.
Just think! That one Med's been found by gods knows how many folk! Kind'a neat, I think. Like, tradition...
Anyway, *rumor* has it there are "spotters" - folks that watch what's going on so that once The Medallion's found, they fly off and report in that it has been found,
and you better be there shortly after them to turn in that ice-blue disk!
Doubt if it will ever bee proven that there actually *are* spotters, but I'm one that believes in them... I SWEAR that guy last year was one.............
Jake... Not really sure... Afraid folks will make copies of it to 'plant' (OOOHHH!!! A Medallion Tree! Who *says* money doesn't grow on trees???!) in *the*
park, pick up, turn in, get the dough? Tradition? Just easier?
I, like Scribe, at first was really upset that if (allow me to change that to WHEN!) I find it I couldn't keep it. But, I got to thinking, ittiz kind'a nice you can't - all that
history and little partz o'folks in that bit o'plastic... Kind'a like energy or something, you know? A little bit of Aaron, a titch o'Steve and Maureen... I'm really into
history and get turned on by artifacts. I see The Med as a *renewable* artifact! <g>
To be honest, I dont care about the money neither. This medallion hunt is obviously here to stay, and i want to be a part of the history. In fact, if i were to find it, i
would probably donate at least some of the money to charity. So Scribe, dont worry your pretty little head off!
Scribe, you can keep the medallion if you want. However, by keeping the medallion, you forfeit the treasure, Mom will have to design another medallion (not a
cheap expense I'm sure), and many hunters will give you grief for being a bad sport. If you are the lucky one to find it, then take as many pictures of it as you would
like. After your picture taking is complete, then go to Mom and receive your prize and glory. My husband and I have been close to the medallion, but never close
enough. We'll be out there again this year in the rain/sleet/snow (whatever Mother Nature throws our way) because we are true hunters. And best of all, it doesn't
matter if you find the medallion, it's the fun in hunting it and meeting such nice people. Since my husband and I aren't true winter sports people, it's our way to coming
out of hibernation and expanding our knowledge of Ramsey County along with many other people who share the same interest. Quickturn, the crooner in the clues
for this past hunt was not referring to Conway Twitty, it was referring to "you" the hunter as being the crooner and breaking tradition of hunting in the past hinding
places. Breaking the tradition and looking for the medallion in a new location makes the "hunter" the crooner by digging at a new park. It takes time to understand
the clues. Believe me, I'm not one to understand everything, but I do know the more hunts you do, the better at it you become.
Scribe, I didn't say you "were" a bad sport but rather you "might" be considered one if you chose to keep the medallion instead of turning it in for the treasure. You
can't read to much into these posting especially taking defense to something I post. I'm not that type of person and feel that most people hunting for the medallion
would agree with me when I say "If you find the medallion, then turn it in as soon as possible so that the rest of us know and can get out of the cold." If course, there
are those who yell out that they've found the medallion. That happens every year and most of us just laugh and continue digging. I have the medallion hot line
programmed into my cell phone and am constantly calling it for updates when hunt is going on. I have to admit, I wanted to keep the medallion when I first started
and was disappointed when I found out that you had to return it for the money. I thought Mom could just give a keeper's copy of the medallion as part of the prize.
Maybe that's something we should suggest. Have a good day, Scribe. I have to return to work, break time has passed many minutes ago. Will check back later.
Treasure Digger, although the medllion is close to my heart, please do not think that I was taking ofense to anything that you said!I'm not that easily upset or offended
(even when people are blunt!LOL)! I'm just saying the PP should let the finder keep what he/she has found,it would not be that big of deal to issue a new design
every year, how could it ever be copied,no one sees it till they dig it up!You are correct in your comments about poor sportsmanship,I would of course turn it in
ASAP,I too have been left in the cold for many years now!I think you're idea of a finder's medallion is a good one,the money is a side issue for serious hunters,a
finder's medallion would be a wonderful artifact(GREEN-SMILE)for a finder to pass down in family history,to recall a wonderful story! As far as the 'I FOUND
ITS'(my pet term) thank God for technology!LOL-Have a wonderful day!
Hey all! Just have to check in! I was getting a bit nostalgic for the hunt,so I took a drive to Chair/key park tonight! That was a fun year! Love that park such good
Hah,they will think you made it all up as crazy as we get in that week!LOL SO MUCH FUN! It would have to be if it gets me this excited!LOL of course I've
You'll find all kinds of history about The PioneerPress Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt...
As well as pics o'some o'us hunters at Re-Hash Bash(es)... And, I *think* even pics o'some Winter Carnival stuff!
Re-Hash Bash = The get-together picnic (yes... PICNIC! Complete with grills, potatoe salad, corn-on-the-cob, Sloppy Joe Medallions, etc.!!!) that's held [usually]
the Sunday following when The Med was found, in the park The Med was found in.
The past two years, those that have found The Med have shown up (BLESS THEM! BLESS THEM!!!) and shown us all the XACT spot The Med was found in...
All Hunters are welcome - ittiz an open invite - and are only asked to bring a dish to share and whatever meat they'd like to grill.
Both years we've all rolled away filled to the gills! This year ('99), Hollywood brought a water filled ballon sling-shot thighy and we had a ton o'fun with that!
We always have a BLAST as we all re-hash our clue ideas, where we were when it was found, how POOR The Clue Writer izz, how close we came to finding it...
Ittiz a great, fun tradition! Hope you can join us in 2000!
Frenchy, you *could* - if you want - compare The PP Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt to You Francophiles across The Pond, going out in the dead of winter -
snow up to your arses... - each with a pig on tether, and hunting a $5,000 truffle!
Hey all !Green, good to see you back! NOW can you answer my bock qestions????? Hah,you are sentimental........me not so much,I WANT THE
PLASTIC!!!!LOL But who knows what I'll do when I actually find it!LOL What do you think of the finders medallion idea? That way if more than 1 person finds it
about the size of a McDonalds happy meal hamburger..........don't ask why that came to mind.lol But it is about that......or a hockey puck but not as thick.........I saw
it once.......actually it is a bit smaller....where the heck is my coffee....sorry FF not quite awake yet!lol
I think the guy who won was Nemeiec or something like that, his brother raced and was killed a couple years back. This is such a dangerous sport,Jake!!!I hope your
LOL, sorry. His name sounded close to Aaron's - that is why I thought you were talking about him. So much for jumping into conversation...LOL! Now I know why
