well an ace is a pilot with 5 or more kills in dogfights. the term dogfight comes around because of the way pilots would chase eash other in a astute way. but i dont think this is going anywhere. if you notice cherokees clues were complicated, last years were very simple in comparision, i think this is the same person as last year. just means no golf course, in st.paul, and a tennis court. its so easy, but were looking too deep. theirs no big clues that'll give it away so early anymore.

I don't see a picture. Just something that wishes it could be a picture. If it doesn't work, why do it?

good call Allison...It does work sometimes and when it does work it's cool..but, its being a bastard...so Im sick of it.

If you look at how easy it was to figure out the sledding clue last year, it would then seem hard to believe that they would suggest a tennis court in such an obscure fashion. I have to believe this clue wasn't meant just to be an excuse to use the word ace and thereby suggest tennis. I have to believe the less a clue makes sense, the more important it must be. The 954 clue last year was by far the most puzzling I'd say, and it practically pinpointed the medallion.

"Ace" is a golf term, you know...

Totally off-topic, but what's it mean in golf?

Back on-topic: We have a pretty vague view of whether or not a golf course is present in the location of the medallion or not. I doubt that we'll actually find out until Friday or so.

True, ace is a golf term. It also could be used in baseball and tennis terms. It can be for piloting, it could be a hardware store, it could mean the number one. just have to keep these various definitions in mind for the later clues.

Well since we're hung up on "Ace," maybe we're supposed to disect its letters to make a word. A C E (A see "E") or a (A sea "E"). Being able to see in an easterly cardinal direction, or something pertaining to the River, seeing an "E" or towards the east. Perhaps this means the east side of St. Paul again. With the stretch I'm making on this one though I may need to say "go, go gadget arms,." Oh, well, alas I have nothing to do but noodle anyway.

When I cut to my own chase, I say it's way to early to discover any true meaning in this/these clue(s). Clue 4 or 5...that's where it's at.

I'm stuck on the word chase also. It would have been easier to use race if it was refering to a jogging path etc...

ShovelMaster - 01:53pm Jan 24, 2000 CST (#597 of 609) 1998's "Shovel Boy" Chase has a very obscure meaning, which goes something like:

an unenclosed game preserve or wildlife refuge.

Hey T hows it going, interestingly someone brought up yesterday about the MN Wild, and how they certainly could be a new obsession to sway fans away from their fretting about the Vikes. Now it says to get yourself out into the "chase" (wild). Perhaps it will be close to the arena, or my thought still being attached to a Wild logo hockey puck. What do you think so far of the anagrams for astute (Statue, U Taste, State U).

I'm glad you like the medallion!

If you would like to see the graphic that the ShovelMaster is trying to display, stop on over to Treasure Hunt Headquarters. It is the medallion shown on the home page.

More thoughts....Profitable Profession, a professional building, possibly a psychiatric clinic for depression, rebellion. A clinic? "Out into the chase" I think could have a meaning. Astute...statue.

Does Chase Mortgage or Chase Manhatten have any branches or buildings in St. Paul?

Main Entry: 3pa·ce Pronunciation: 'pA-(")sE; 'pä-(")chA, -(")kA Function: preposition Etymology: Latin, ablative of pac-, pax peace, permission -- more at PACT Date: 1863 : contrary to the opinion of -- usually used as an expression of deference to someone's contrary opinion; usually italics <easiness is a virtue in grammar, pace old-fashioned grammarians -- Philip Howard>

So lets see if you "set your own pace" that would suggest coming up with your own grammatical rules then look at the second part of the "and it could make you an ace" those last three words phonetically are U-N-A-C-E, is there anyone in the U.N. or who was in the U.N. that either was an ace, or perhaps who is the number 1 guy now.

its great to see that we are on pace to overanalyze this all.

Birdie15

Well here is my early guess. I am taking ace as meaning cards maybe. Could it be hidden in a box that holds a deck of cards? It seems like it would be the perfect size for the prize.

Hey birdie i am back, but only for an hour or so then i gotta go to work. Like the idea about the box. Somethin that would be easy to hide in the snow and possibly what was on the box, like a picture could be significant.

My first thought on seeing Clue #2--"Set your own pace and it could make you an ace--"-I seized on 'ace' which makes me think of pilots, especially the old-time dogfighters who shot down other pilots.Makes me think of Holman Field which has a Confederate Air Force exhibit every year. There were some ace dogfighters in early WW2-although WW1 was the war they were famous for.Yes-this is a tad convoluted, but so are these clues.I'm thinking now that Indian Mounds Park has the best view of Holman Field.Tomorrow, something will steer me in a different direction.

lets see, who would qualify as a an ace U.N. pilot perhaps one with an astute statue near bye.

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:32 PM Permalink
George_Y2G_

Shoveler is that a random thought or do you know of a statue like that??

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:33 PM Permalink
the shoveler

random thought I am trying to think of all important U.N. people who may have been "aces" during WW2, I believe the U.N. was founded right around WW2 so who founded it, could that be a lead?

Where does the UN come from? There are no UN aces. The blue helmet people kept getting pushed around and tormented by the Serbs in Bosnia.

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:37 PM Permalink

The name "United Nations" was devised by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was first used in the "Declaration by United Nations" of 1 January 1942, during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their Governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers.

I just found this, anyone know of any statues of FDR?

SHOVELER:They wouldn't be old enough. Most WW2 veterans are past 70.Most diplomats are younger than me(58).

Where does the UN come from? There are no UN aces.

go back a few posts to my regrammatization of the phrase "and it could make you an ace" The previous line suggested to set your own pace, pace can also mean a non-standard grammar, so if set your own grammar to the words "you an ace" you get U-N-A-C-E.

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:39 PM Permalink

Despite all the CCC projects, there probably aren't any statues of FDR.

como has some ccc projects, heres somelthing interesting, i looked up chase in a big dictionary, it it a tennis term as well as ace. chase is do like "a redo" i think, big dictionarys are vague and mysterious. the downtown air field did do its part in WW2, b-24 s were thier being worked on alot (thats what my grandpa did for a while) and in 42 a group of special b-25's came thru their. that group was doolittles raiders

I am not convinced that it is absolutely not at a park without a golf course

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:48 PM Permalink

I don't discount the previous logic--but could 'set your own pace'also have to do with running or jogging.

Mon, 01/24/2000 - 4:48 PM Permalink

of course it could, and it probably does, but that takes away all the noodling fun!

BIRDIE:I was thinking that it was a park with a golf course, but that the PP folks didn't want searchers on the course.Proximity, but not on the course.I think that's a clue.
