You have a donkey? I suppose it's better than your wife saying she's got the jackass.....

And when did you think about becoming the farmer in the dell?

where'd the goat come from?

My parents own a hobby farm..

Katie is the one that owns the goat and the donkey...

I have 2 dogs, 5 cats - and No, Payme, I didn't get the goat yet. Although a friend of mine has some down the road from me Pygmie (?) ones for $100.

I need to see if they have a cute little black one - that is well suited to the name Lucifer.

Oh - and I have a roommate that falls into the pig/jackass classification.

I have 2 cat's and 1 dog, I know it sounds bad but I am looking forward to them being gone :frown: tired of the hair and the cat puke everyday. I don't think I'll ever own a cat again as much as I love them, they are more work than I can keep up with.

mrmnmikey

I had 2 cats at one time. I keep asking my wife when we'll get another, but I'm kinda happy without one. No hair, no puke etc. Think I'll just wait.

the reason you end up with pukey cats is because of the quality of food. of course, to get really good food you've gotta pay through the nose for it (ours gets solid gold kats-n-flocken, which is about how much you pay for it) very very very seldom do we find hairballs and puke.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:19 PM Permalink
Love4Vino

what the hell are you guys feeding these cats that they are puking?

got a tube of that tuna flavored gel that cures hairballs - my one long hair gets a little blob of that on my finger everynight and we are puke free.

its 100% about food.

of course what it does to what comes out the other end......i never knew something that weighed 7 lbs could produce something that stinky! sometimes i think she could give me a run for my money.

mrmnmikey

I fed her nothing but purina cat chow. She didn't puke that much till she got older. She died from liver failure so maybe that was a warning sign.

My cat eats prescription formula diet chow. He's been on it for almost five years and has gone from 20 to 17 lbs. But I've never had a hair ball or puke.

we used to feed them meow mix but went to cat chow cuz the meow mix has too many dyes in it and stains the carpet orange, cat chow is just brown, same color as the carpet, only one of the cat's puke, the other is the hair culprit, she has long white hair and sheds all the time.

The purina could have had a lot to do with it 3m - it's really rich in protein which sometimes can wreck havoc on an older kittys tummy.

In HS I worked as a vet tech for 2 years, and although I don't preach that Vet food is the only way to go - reading what the food has in it, there are a lot of differences and some supermarket brands certainly are better than others.

this goes for dogfood too.

Surpringly Walmarts 'knock off Iams' is pretty dang close to the real deal as far as nutrients with 1/2 the price. I get a bag of the hairball, a bag of the urinary healthy track and a bag of the indoor blend -mix it together and make a kitty buffet.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:29 PM Permalink
Love4Vino

note - the high protein in cat food can actually cause liver failure in dogs if doggie gets ahold of too much kitty food.

just an fyi for all you 'mixed race' pet owners.

usually higher in fatty acids - which also make thier coats shiny.

that's still a huge kitty OT.

I have a couple that are 18+ pounds

We used senior formula cat chow the last few years. She was just old. It was her time to go. It had nothing to do with the food.

I also have two parakeets. Mr. Peepers and Belle. Belle's beak has grown too long and I have to take her to the vet to have it shaved off. :frown: I am soooooo afraid to reach in the cage to catch her without one of them escaping! I always have someone here with me when I clean the cage to help me with that. But I'll be on my own for this.

I'm considering making a tent out of a big blanket or something so if one gets out at least it would be in a confined place. I could build a fort out of blankets draped over chairs!

And then I'm going to buy a cuttlebone.

I had 2 birds a long time ago. I named them Peabody and Sherman. Their cage looked like the "way back machine" to me.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:50 PM Permalink

or just put the cage on the floor and cover yourself and the cage with the blanket.

Yes, that's another option.

Mr. Peepers is named after a bird we had when I was growing up. My mother named him after a TV show back then. Wally Cox played Mr. Peepers. A shy school teacher I think he was.

or just use the self cleaning mechanism on your oven -and solve everything..

Ok - I'm TOTALLY kidding. I love birdies too.

Once I got really drunk at work.. :eyeroll: and this little black bird thingy fell out of it's mommas nest and I scooped it up and walked through the vineyard to the vet on the other side with some wine and tried to convince him to save it.

He wasn't going for it - and the bird was dead anyhow.

When I got back to work, there was another one! and I took that little sucker home, but he died cause I couldn't figure out how to feed him.

I woke up the next morning with a dead bird in a wine box... boy I had to do a lot of remembering..

My son brought home three birds that had fallen out of their nest. They were just these barely hatched creatures. No feathers and all pink. He wanted to save them. So we put them in a box with a heating pad and fed them with an eye dropper all night long. One survived. We had that bird in a cage for several years. A sparrow yet. It went on vacation with us. We tried to release it when it had matured, but it was having nothing to do with that. It would fly into a tree and then come back and sit on our shoulders.

aww - that is cute. I had a turkey appear on my doorstep when I lived on a airforce base (like one that escaped a soon-2-b-dinner farm)

I named it Tommy (like my XH) we literbox trained it, and it lived in the house for quite a while and would follow my XH everywhere. Finally we gave it to a friend who had a farm and it had a run in with a wild dog and well, let just say - Tommy became dinner. I still have some of his tail feathers tho.

Years ago grocery stores gave away chicks at Easter time. No kidding, they'd have this basket with chickens at Glewwe's and all you had to do is buy some canned hash as I remember and you got a chick free. I had several over the years and we'd move them to the garage when they got bigger. I'd play with them in the yard like a puppy. When they started crowing and waking the neighbors we took them to a relatives farm.

Can you imagine how many health department rules would be broken if they tried that today??

We had a robin that fell out of it's nest that we raised, MR. Tweeters. My dad would feed him raw hamburger. My sisters taught him to fly. We'd set him free, he'd come back and land on your shoulder. Once he landed on my sister's head and pooped on her. He would fly back and land on the patio table and squack for his meals. Then he would fly back up in the trees. When we were hanging out by the pool he would fly down and hang out on the railing. Day by day he came around a little less .... and then he stopped coming. Ahhh Mr. Tweeters.

Hey OT... coming from a family with 15 parrots I am really good at bird catching. If you need help let me know. I still have a 30 year old feathered sibling living with my folks. Pepe and I grew up together. They say a parrot has the reasoning capability of a 3 year old. He is terribly jealous of me. Probably doesn't help that I used to tell him Mom and Dad liked me better  At any rate my Mom has this picture of the two of us together on top of her computer desk. Every time she lets Pepe out while she is working on her computer he goes and sifts through all the pictures on top of her desk till he finds the one of she and I and then launches it at her head. Little stinker! She claims he has made a permanent dent in her skull that way. She also takes showers with him. Once when I was staying at their house pet-sitting Pepe heard the shower running, thought it was Mom and headed in... only to find it was me. He let out a rather undignified squawk and did a summersault in midair. needless to say I do not have any birds in my menagerie

Thanks for the offer, TC. I think I have solved the problem. I'm going to take her in on Saturday when one of my kids can come over to help me. In the mean time, I'm going to go to a pet store and get a little bird carrier for her. I hope this doesn't traumatize her too much. :frown: But I think a box smaller than a shoe box will be safer for her.

And I love the visual of Pepe doing an about face when he saw it was you in the shower!
