Clues for the Medallion Hunt
Each Day during the week of February 6th through the 10th a new clue will be posted on this page by 8:00 am.
Clue #1
From the Edge I was sent
and on public land I will be found
The Hunt is on, Good Luck to you
Did I mention there's a red tassel too?
Clue #2
A shovel you will not need
A gentle lift to the sky and you will see
This was once a movie ground
But now there's a treasure waiting to be found.
Clue #3
Postcards are fine, but we're a little blue
Mr. Snowman medallion, where are you?
Not to worry with the Spring thaw
The will return from his travels as good as new.
But lets not let Mr. Snowman down,
this year's medallion is on the ground.
Clue#4
Much like the cows of the roaming free era
There is plenty to explore in this area.
And by finding this envelope you too will be
A piece of North St. Paul history.
Found by me2 on Feb. 9th, 2006 about 3ish-pm --$400

...I was reading my posts from last year....I need to check all the parks on day 1.
That's what I was thinking too Kitch, but Mr. Med gave some good info that it might not even be a park this year (any public land).
:frown:
has anyone seen what that one looked like?
possibly round...
maybe with some letters on it...
It could have been a color too....
In all actuality, I dont know...
I'm just trying to get my 1600th post.
I'm betting not good. Mr. Med, how long have you been following this hunt anyway?
2002 - The NSP Historical Museum
2003 - Casey Lake
2004 - NSP Community Center
2005 - McKnight Fields
I have not kept the clues from previous years and most years I'm hunting long after it's been found. They do a terrible job of getting the news out that it's been found. I don't know how much time I'll spend on it this year, but it's close to home and work.
from now on..
the organization of this folder will be just for the minor hunts....and should help from year to year.
I found 2003 and 2004 through the wayback machine. 2002 doesn't seem to have any info though, possibly the website wasn't up then.
At least for the first couple years it sounds like the original hider's son was doing the clues. Kinda cool thing to find out rummaging through old website stuff.
The Environmental areas have names, I'll get em tomorrow, plus I have to scout access points for some parks, they're not easily seen from aerial shots I guess. Please let me know if I left any park/public land out.

Depending on your browser setup, the format might look kinda weird.
I got the Polar Park access C to work though -so Im good
can get them at city hall....
I thought the prize was 500 with a button? guess they dropped it a bit.
I don't mean to ask for alot...I am down and out with a chest cold - hoping to get back to work tomorrow
I dug through the old threads on the PF boards and only found the first 3 clues from the 05 NSP hunt. I'm not sure if I saved them from last year or not. Does anyone happen to have the rest of the clues?
Lesse. Dorothy park is shown to be huge, but is little more than a field with a playground surrounded by houses and some lakefront. Franklyn Park is located in a different area than I'd expected, there's no designating park sign for it, just next to a large parking lot behind the downtown strip. Didn't waypoint it as some guy was parked nearby with the trunk of his car propped open. Rotary park has changed a lot. Mostly it's a parking lot now for some new building. Sad because it used to look like a nice place to pull off the gateway trail to rest. All that's left is the park sign and a small footbridge.
Hause Park is actually named after Walter A. Hause (I thought it might've just been German for House, funny, google earth calls the park House Park) Chief of Police in North St. Paul from 1928-1955.
Got a lot of new data to put into a map, I should have it completed by Sunday, just in time for the hunt.
Saw last year's hiding spot at mcknight field, I probably could've visited the park and still missed it.
I have spoken
I do hope to find at least 1 medallion this year though.
Again not thinking the clue will amount to a hill of beans, so I'll try searching a few parks tomorrow evening. Mr. Med are you planning to be out somewhere?
Im gonna hit up as many as I can today
If my plans go according to schedule, this thing aint gonna last past #3
unfortunatley, I got a button, but it was too late to get it registered...
poo.
From the Edge I was sent

Did I mention there's a red tassel too?
their colors are red & white, if I recall correctly....
heh
first thing that popped out was "edge"
also tassel...hmmm school?
quick thinking tassel ...stripper...heh
just from what I know about stuff, having not been out to look yet, my first two guesses are Polar, and Cannon...
in any case, i'm heading out to scout things in a bit....
I should be sleeping.
n.
A decorative border or edging of hanging threads, cords, or strips, often attached to a separate band.
Something that resembles such a border or edging.
A marginal, peripheral, or secondary part: “They like to hang out on the geographical fringes, the seedy outposts” (James Atlas).
Those members of a group or political party holding extreme views: the lunatic fringe.
Any of the light or dark bands produced by the diffraction or interference of light.
A fringe benefit.
this is interesting....fringe...tassel...edge
But since I'm stuck to night hunting, here's my ideas.
Southwood, Casey Lake, Dorothy and Silver Lake are the only parks that border on the edge of North St. Paul. The only park that clearly borders on the edge is Southwood (along holloway ave).
Red tassel, could be a reference to the high school, or just a reference to a mortar board cap for graduation. Southwood park has some old brickword that looks to be the remnants of a basement (one place I'd check tonight).
So far, like Mr. Med has said, they've gone park - public land - park - public land. I think 36 also fits as one year it's been northside, the next the south.
I don't plan on going out tonight yet. Maybe tomorrow during lunch. We'll see! I didn't get much from today's clue. Southwood would be my guess right now. A nice little wooded area - gotta love treasure hunting in the woods!
Where's you put all those nice maps that you had?
Mr. Med, I'll have a map posted this evening, I need to get out and mark a few spots, and since I'll be hunting tonight it'll be a good chance to do it.
BTW, if you're really interested in my thoughts on southwood, this cache is where I found the old basement/foundation.

 the red tassel
Summary
The action in The Red Tassel, David DodgeÂ’s third and final Al Colby adventure, takes place high in the Bolivian Andes. Colby is hired by the beautiful, red-headed Pancha Porter, who is making her first visit to Bolivia, to investigate a series of mysterious thefts and accidents at her lead and silver mine in San MartÃn Coquellache (altitude 17,000 feet). The mine was left to her by her father and is managed by an American named Simon Braillard. Braillard suspects that the “accidents” are actually sabotage and that the village witch doctor, Yatiri, is behind them.
Upon their arrival at the mine, Al and Pancha meet Braillard, his beautiful wife Lili and skinny son Carl, along with the mineÂ’s chief employees. The thefts continue, including a daring nighttime raid on the mineÂ’s llama herd. Just as Colby is beginning to unravel the relationships between Yatiri and the mine workers (everyone in the village is related and BraillardÂ’s chief assistants are direct descendants of the witch doctor), Braillard winds up with a knife in his back and a red borla -- a woven ear tassel for a llama, used as a mark of ownership -- in his hand. Now he has to uncover the rest of YatiriÂ’s secrets before he and Pancha meet the same fate.
I might have it....
