Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

I found the following in an article about the carousel at Como:

On some carousels, like Cafesjian's Carousel in St. Paul, Minnesota, all the figures are horses. Others, called menagerie machines, feature a variety of animals such as cats, goats, rabbits, ostriches, pigs, giraffes, and deer.

I still think the clue writer could be referring to the carousel...just found it interesting that the word menagerie was used.

I think this last clue is screaming "Como" - but I really don't want it to be there. I'm holding out hope that tonight's clue will lead me awaaaaaayyy!

I finally get a day off during the hunt this year -- and I think I'm getting the crud. Sore throat, headache, ish. Can't be sick!

This post reminds me of when the carousel was at Town Square Park in St. Paul. It was the only indoor St. Paul park. I was convinced the clues led me there so I packed up the kiddies and dragged them down there where we looked in every potted dieffenbachia plant.

Back in the day - which wasn't all that really far back - I inspected every single trash can I came across.

Hunters more xperienced than I would wander off and leave me 'hunting' alone. Took awhile, but it finally sank in I was wasting my time...

linwood has area very well dug up.

phalen has been dug hear and there. like the channel going to keller

    1998 Clues

Back to the 1990's | Full Hiding List | Home

Found by brother and sister combo, Steve Doyle and Maureen Hursey, who took home the $4,000 prize because they had registered a button. Well, of course they registered a button – they had only been hunting for the medallion since they were kids. And, finally, at 1.45 p.m. on February 4 in Cherokee Park, the 32-year-old boy and 37-year-old girl were able to rest this childhood dream.

From 1998 Cherokee hunt, so not too long ago. I know my wife had a first name then, not sure about other girls...

    FLORA

    Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, German, Italian, Roman Mythology

    Pronounced: FLOR-a (English) [key]

Derived from Latin flos meaning "flower". Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, the wife of Zephyr the west wind.

I like the "bro and sis" connection to Cherokee. This was my first observation about clue 1 yesterday. That and "where a body can be benched" = "Chair"-o-kee.

Shakespeare drew the story for As You Like It from Thomas Lodge's prose story "Rosalynde" in the collection Euphues' Golden Legacy (1590). In adapting Lodge's story, Shakespeare added his own characters, notably Touchstone and Jaques.

Also interesting... as a lodge could be a retreat.

Good evening everyone, I can't believe I'm just posting for the first time this year- too many kids and too much going on!

Right now I'm kinda going with Linwood and Como.

Linwood:Thirst must be quenched:Schmidt Brewery in sight, Bard of Avon(shakespeare) Avon St, warm and smell pretty could be referring to Avon products or Pleasant(areana or Ave)

Winter or summer I think might just mean there are things to at Linwood in both winter & summer
