With the memorial service on Friday, and no doubt many of us attending, I thought it would be nice to have a spot where we could share memories of Kirk, and pass them along to his family.
treasure chest
So sorry to hear of the loss of Kirk. He will be missed by his fellow treasure hunters.
I never had the priviledge of meeting him in person, but with his legendary status, there was no way an avid medallion hunter would not know him.
Finding the medallion once is a rare feat, something I could only dream of doing. Finding it twice is nothing short of amazing. Kirk definately will be remembered as a legend. I know I'll remember him whenever I drive past Newell (which is fairly frequent, as I work close by).
I know, with this being the first hunt without Kirk I feel about 100% better about my chances. He was really a neat guy to know and will be missed out in the parks!
Well Kirk, You made history by being the only person to find the med twice, so your buddy Jake had to make history too. He made history in 2 ways. He was the earliest finder, and he spawned a 2nd hunt for only the second time in history.
(anyone else find it really ironic that No Time For Cold Feet was in the clues, and Jake was the star of the movie, and happened to find it the year the movie was mentioned? And make history doing it??)
Yes, that is ironic - hadn't thought of it like that.
I do think its cool that another thing the clue didn't intend, besides the level/Cleveland interpretation, was that two nature lovers would greet each other that morning, exchange information, and one would then find the medallion. And while the powers that be say that they just meant it was on level ground, Jake and Rob's discussion did play a role.
sooo, I'm reading a magazine in my collection that I've read a dozen times before...and it hits me... not only were they talking about the first year I ever hunted ...but this was when Kirk found it! way cool! Doesn't look like too much has changed except now we take time off from work - heh!

We had some fun times, not only looking for the medallion, but also sitting on the porch in front of your house. There was much more intersting things in your life than the two medallion finds. Your scrapbook with your wrestling articles was classic! I only had my picture in the Star Tribune once!!!
I don't think you ever realized just how big of a deal it was to find the medallion a second time. I know you never wanted the noteriety, but believe me, you've got it. I'll always treasure the broken record man.... If they have an annual treasure hunt in heaven, I don't think God has a chance.
God bless Kirk, and you'll be the first person I think of if I am ever fortunate enough to find the medallion.
My sympathy and prayers are with you all. Please know that Kirk has touched many hearts. He's left memories and stories that will never die. He was a true treasure! The Winter Carnival's 2007 hunt will keep his spirit alive!
I'm very sorry to hear of Kirk's sudden passing. He was a great guy who always had an interesting story to tell. As an idol of the Cooler Crew medallion hunting gang, his insight will be greatly missed. This next hunt is dedicated to you Kirk. R.I.P. buddy.

me and Steve ran into him one night, and he told us that he loved the makeup and thought we did a good job of making people have a good time and laugh
