The Hunt for the Medallion
will take place
On Public Land in North St. Paul
Monday through Friday,
February 9 - 15, 2008
CLUE NUMBER 1
This year we look for the little man made of metal
Who won't melt when the weather finally mellows.
Where he may be, most don't know,
But this year please leave your shovel at home!
Search where you think this twister might lead,
and enjoy your time in the commons!
CLUE NUMBER 2
"Every inch of this land should be well guarded"
Our founder once said, of the lay of the land.
His generosity was great and three sites evolved
To bring our village above and beyond them all.

thats because the mound was 20 feet high and solid ice and snow that the city shoved into a pile. it was an impossible hunt. I gaurentee the hider did not get their medallion (or whatever they hid) back.
sub zero temps froze the mound.
Kitch never treated her right.
RIP Kitches big red hoe.
my little hoe is red..

something here...I can't read it..
But what a great website! Actual articles from an old newspaper. Isn't it fun to read the vernacular of a different era?

The prize for finding the medallion is $200 in Medallion Dollars, and will be awarded to the winner on Friday, February 11, 2008 during the Snow Frolics Fling
I know a goood place to look.. but it'd be odd of them to hide it there...
cannon and rotire should most like be off limits because of the bridge work there!!
& Dorothy
the object they are hiding is metal
they must be on clue 3 by now
suppose I should just go look
I don't have high hopes for Cannon either. They moved the Cannon to the Veterans memorial next to the history center. I can't imagine they would have done that if they intended on keeping cannon park where it is.
Nope me2, they're on the 1st clue still.
Im pretty slow on this hunt and am NOT kidding when I say I don't have any spare time to go find this...so I will post my thoughts on the board for anyone else that can go find it. ...
did everyone notice that the snowman metal thing on the main page is probably what they hid. I like that they show it. Its slim and probably hidden upright - obviously not on the ground.

complete edit of this post

Seems like these clues always refer to North St. Paul History. I need to go to that museum downtown sometime....
THE MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND!!
THE HUNT IS OVER FOR 2008!!
THE MEDALLION WAS FOUND IN HAUSE PARK
STAY TUNED, MORE INFORMATION, CLUES AND LOCATION WILL BE POSTED ON THIS PAGE
I'm guessing someone found it early in the evening and just didn't turn it in until today....
It's pretty easy to check most of them, all of them could be thoroughly searched in less than a day.
ya its nice...
but :hangs head: I've got pride at stake.....water fountain and watertowers make me sick...
but I am with BFG on that one!! and Roseville is my old town so I need that one!! but I think someone already has that one!! lol KC!!
I still need to find a medallion legitimately
I agree, gotta find WBL, if only to break that group's streak.
Oakdale would be nice for the $$, plus I've hunted it for a few years.
I've got a lot of data on North St. Paul parks, will have it on Oakdale and Roseville, might as well do White Bear Lakes too. I'm still thinking of putting a small town hunters guide together. I even looked at binding machines today at work, heh.
Come to think of it, it could easily double as a winter carnival hunter's guide (if, and I do mean IF they ever hide it outside of St. Paul again).
This is how I ended up at the park. Keep in mind this is only a 5 clue hunt, so it really is only a 4 clue hunt due to the 5th clue they give you the location. So in all reality this 2nd clue find should be considered a midpoint for most hunts.
Clue #1
1.Man made of metal - Well of course you could just assume this was referring to the medallion, but we thought it might be pointing to a hiding area too. A picnic table, grill, sign, etc.
2.Where he may be, most don't know - Figured out what this meant after the 2nd clue, Hause park used to be called park B. Most residence wouldn't know that.
3.Leave your shovel at home - Wasn't going to be buried. Maybe hanging from a tree, tucked into something or under something. (Or maybe a half mile back in a woods that could only be accessed via a small deer trail in the middle of no where - not to bash the Winter Carnivals hiding location. Man it was cold that night -40 and yes I was there).
4. Search where you think this twister might lead - We took this as possible referring to a street name. Helen hunt stared in the twister movie. Charles Foley was a Creator of the game twister. So any parks that Helen or Charles were targeted. They would be Southwood, Hause, Silver and possibly Dorothy with a Wizard of Oz connection.
5. Enjoy your time in the commons - We took commons meant a park because there are things to enjoy there.
Clue #2
1. Ever inch of this land should be well guarded - Walter Hause was the police chief for the town, so he guarded the village. Pointed us to Hause park
2. His generosity was great and three sites evolved - This narrowed it down to 3 parks, Water tower, Hause and Central. Henry Castle donated three plots of land for parks. With the clue 1 "Be" reference this lead us to Hause park.
This is more-less how we ended up finding the medallion. Narrowed it down to the park we thought fit best. Put the clue's together and found it under the kids "metal", "twister" ride in Hause
The Cooler Crew hopes me2 is going to find their treasure very soon.
whos treasure? :sheepish:
