The incredibly gorgeous weather we had on Saturday! Gives me hope that this nasty cold stuff WILL come to an end. Hannah and I had been out bumming, and saw these HUGE kites flying over Lake Phalen, so drove by to check it out. The were doing this thing where they skim on sailboat-like crafts along the ice! It was way cooler.

Then, when we drove past the Rec Center, someone had built 2 snowmen on one of the ball fields. One was the pitcher, the other was at bat! But when I took the whole fam damily there after the ReHash someone else had crushed them. Meanies!

Fantasy novels... I need a new series, can anyone recommend one for me? I have read the LOTR trilogy, Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time.

Ideas?

I enjoy the "Prey" novels by John Sandford. Not fantasy, but they all take place locally.

I have read most of those. I love all of the local references!

Not as racy but the Janet Evanovich, Numbers Series (one for the the money etc.. I think she is up to 14?).

I enjoy those - sex, murder, fun, explosions.. and very quick reads.

I made stuffed green peppers yesterday for the first time without a recipe and they turned out awesome. Trick - bake at 325 for 1.5 hours.

A couple of months ago I attempted Romanian cabbage rolls and my husband said they were better than what his mother use to make.

My roommate has been reading a series.. The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind (it's also being made into a TV series, Legend of the Seeker). He says it's really good.

Are Romanian cabbage rolls like sarma? St. Sava Serbian Orthodox church has a sarma feed every year and sell out in hours.

Yup, read that one too! Loved it

Your roommate a fantasy nerd like me? I have a new favorite book: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. He's a Wisconsin author, and this is his first novel. It's also the first in a trilogy.

Yes except I think they call it sarmia or sarnia??? St. Stephan's Romanian Orthodox church has feed too and it sells out quickly. I went to the croatian hall for a cabbage roll feed and theirs weren't as nearly as good as the romanian ones. I tried german style cabbage rolls (with tomato sauce) and they weren't that great, I haven't tried the serbian ones yet.

Gonna get into the 30's tomorrow - better schedule some outdoor time to motivate your ass out of the cradle. Maybe disc golfing in the snow? Leave the white discs at home, though.

trying to download a ringtone on my new phone and wasting 40 minutes. Every time (after the minutes were deducted), the thing would time out and lose the conection. I sent an e-mail to customer service asking for the 40 minutes back.

Enjoy: Getting my 40 minutes back on my phone.

No email or explanation yet, but I got my wasted minutes back

Thought of the day:

Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalised, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism"

Got home from work. Came in the back door. Inks is sitting at the table. We're talking and there was what sounded like a knock at the front door.

I am expecting something from UPS so started towards the door and who walks in from the living room?

My daughter!

So surprised!!!!!

She is here dealing with her adoption records that the agency is refusing to let go of...and this time she is armed with an attorney.

Enjoy - Watching No Time for Cold Feet with Brenda.

Her and her attorney are meeting on Sunday with game plan #2 for Monday. She's extended her stay through Monday late afternoon.

She is definately not giving in or up. And her attorney, being a friend is "honored" to be helping her.

Hope this all turns out the way she would like it to.

In the meantime, we get the chance to see her again.

The surprise stuff has to stop. Makes a mom and dad a bit crazy.

I hope it does too. Today's encounter was less than productive at the agency. (She and the attorney were there earlier in the day.)

She has a court order. She has an amended court order as they requested so that what she wants is so clearly spelled out there is no way they couldn't understand it, but they are playing stupid and being stubborn.

I believe they have met their match.

They maybe hiring at specific offices or certain postions but they just announced they're excessing (transferring out) 45 clerks from the St Paul Processing Center.

They haven't done much hiring the last 10 years or so, so that's when they offer an entrance exam I tell people to jump on it.

mostly the thing in the PP job section is crap....

Its some organization with little to no affiliation to the USPS, and they want you to spend a buncha loot, to get study materials on how/where to take the test...

With no guarantee of hire...

I spent a half an hour on the phone w/ them, a few days ago, finding that out...

ummm....Sorry.... I'm in danger of losing everything, and I NEED a REAL job ASAP, and cant afford the money or time it would take to chase what seems like a scheme project...
Fri, 02/06/2009 - 9:36 PM Permalink
Tatergirl

Yeah there are private firms out there that "school" people on how to do well on the exam itself. But that doesn't do you any good if the USPS isn't having any hiring exams.

I would recommend paying for those tutoring sessions though. The USPS actually hired one of them to help all the temps get a good score and they gave us alot of good info and we did practice exams to improve speed and accuracy. I probably wouldn't pay more than $100 and I would only do it if you're actually signed up to take an exam.

The best place to find hiring/testing info is http://www.usps.com/employment/welcome.htm?from=home_footer&page=careers

Look for wharehouse jobs. Overnights. Sucks axe, but you walk in the door between $12 and $17 per hour (when I was looking for them... around 2000...)

Job sux. but it pays the bills.

I woke up. Ate. Went to work for many hours. Came home. Took an hour and a half nap. Watched my youngest all day. Wife came home and I took an hour and a half nap. Repeat.

It is a sucky way to go, but when you've got nothing else... You've gotta do what you've gotta do. I did that for a year before I was laid off.

thats kinda what ive been looking for - warehouse type stuff...

since ive got alotta backroom/warehouse/truck unloading and/or merchandising/stock experience...

I can find places who say they're hiring, but then they have a million reasons why they DONT want me...

or they go with the old stand-by - "that position has already been filled"
