I remember this rumor: A long-running but incorrect rumor claims Brannum was the father of musician Frank Zappa, apparently because of a Zappa composition titled "Son of Mr. Green Genes" on his 1969 album, Hot Rats.
The first things that popped out to me were genes (jeans), pocket, green. Maybe hidden in a pocket of green jeans?
I like the Capt Kangaroo reference -
"Mr. Green Jeans earned his moniker from his distinctive apparel, a pair of farmer's overalls (later, jeans and a denim jacket) in his signature green (although, since the show was broadcast in black-and-white for much of its run, this was lost on viewers). He was a talented and inquisitive handyman who provided assistance at the Treasure House. He frequently visited the Captain with the latest addition to his menagerie of zoo animals."
farmer's overalls - Crosby Farm park
Treasure house - ?? who knows
zoo animals - como, Harriet island
Alright I'm done over noodling clue one - time for my meds :pbpt:
I agree Terry, the only thing this board is missing is a like button. It's a quick way to let someone know you agree/like what they post without wasting another post. (not so much slogging)
It was another fun PDG. And I agree with TV, I really love this crew of ours. I don't think our size necessarily increased in numbers but rather most people showing up at the same time. Enjoyed the liquor candies. Glad Mappy showed up with some new books. Enjoyed having the patient Laurie from the carnival photographer. I didn't get a chance to taste the food once again but I plan on having some as soon as I get home. Unfortunately we're hanging out in the ER right now because Sarah was in serious pain which turned out to be kidney stones. So we never made it to the after party. Hope everybody else had a nice time. Just wished they planned ahead and turned down the heat in that room ahead of time. That's always rule one with our group size. Otherwise it was a hit once again. Thoughts for improvements? Oh, and I like the spellchecker in here which they don't have on FB
Ugh kidney stones are horrible, my husband had those. It always seems to happen at night for a ER trip! I am glad you are all home and ok. It was sooo great finally getting to come to a cooler crew event. I was pretty excited to meet another newbie who's husband isn't into this, I think we can both have someone to chat with without the glazed look as soon as you say hunt! Amazed at the amount of folks- was awesome!
I asked the female server if she thought there was anything we should have done differently. She thought it would have made things easier if next year we just have everyone pay for their meal at the time they order. Then you'd be free to wander and they wouldn't have to track you down.
Wasn't the medallion hidden in a doughnut with green frosting one year?
Pocket some green could also be bringing back the 'ole days where they told us if the park had a golf course or not, but im leaning towards an Irish reference in this clue.
It appears the PDG was a hit...Someday I may crash the party even though I have never hunted. I have hung out with a bunch of you online and in person for years! ALso share a home town with some of you....see...I really am a cooler Crew person....
Donna, you can crash the PDG anytime you'd like. You are a Cooler Crew member so it really wouldn't be crashing, but we would love to see you there or anywhere.
We took a drive around Como, Cherokee and Highland. Saw definite hunters - about 2 or 3 at Como. No one appeared to be hunting at Cherokee or Highland.
It was fun on a nice day to get out and do some scouting and thinking ahead of the next 11 clues.
Yes, I did notice that. Plus it said something about the character Mr Green Jeans was based on stories they told on a radio show about a farm boy named Little Orley.
Couple farm references there... but I tend to ignore the first 2-3 clues as they usually don't add up to much.
The medallion was found after Clue 11 in 2012. The word “bluff” in this clue references the bluffs around St. Paul and “reprise” hints the treasure is hidden in a park where it has been hidden before. “Use high tech gear …” refers to the increased use of cellphones and the Internet and also cautions hunters not to use electronics to cheat, as some people did in 2012. The treasure is hidden on public land in Ramsey County, but the “fine line” hints that the treasure rests very near the county line. Stay off golf courses, and don't dig up the ground. did
Hello everyone! I am extremely excited to have my own "paid" Cooler crew account access this year (as opposed to over-the-shoulder-reading!). Thank you for this awesome forum-- I was spot on the park last year with you all. I wish you all luck with the hunt!
Ok... I must be losing it. I forgot about the scrambled clue release. I used to scramble to solve it, but now I'm like "eh I'll wait 30 min for the real thing"
I'm either getting lazier, conserving energy, or getting saner.
Found this (which I am sure is a far stretch)
The "Green Gene" nominated by Gene of Como Park lol
http://www.eurekarecycling.org/page.cfm?ContentID=76#Gene
It has to do with the way each line reads I'm sure. We'll see if that continues.
But note spelling of Mr. Green Genes. from Wiki
Bagpipes.
Highland.
Have fun at the predig everyone.. !!

Only downfall- need more servers!
I think there was such an influx of people all at once, it was more than just a couple people could handle for service.

Or maybe there's some science connection related to genes?
Or Gene Autry? http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/search?q=%22Gene+Autry%22

2013:
Clue 1 (Clue to Park)
So last year's hunt proved pretty tough,
Filled with red herrings, bluster and bluff.
Expect more reprise in this year's hunt.
Use high tech gear, but no cheating stunt.
The outer limit is the Ramsey line;
On public land you'll do just fine.
Don't hunt in a place where you play a round.
Don't dig deep holes or tear up the ground.

Mr Green Genes had me thinking of farms.
Green also made me thinnk of visually spotting something green, like pine tree, sign, or building.
Roar = lion, statue of lion, roar of a plane or bus...
??
why does it say to dress warmly when waiting for the clues in the paper??
.

I can see to stay off thin ice
Ramsey, St. Paul suburbs
no roaming on private property and public ground and golf which means this is largely a rules clue.
It's never been in North St. Paul. Remember that one video from yesterday and Casey Lake?
Ramsey. Suburb.
I'm either getting lazier, conserving energy, or getting saner.
Ramsey County, suburbs, St. Paul - within the county line
Stay off private land, watch for thin ice, stay off golf courses
30 minutes we'll have something that makes a rhyme.
Otherwise I'm calling Keller.
Suburbs and neighborhoods and throughout St. Paul
Don’t dig up the ground – thin ice stay away
Courses for golf are all out of play.
You wonÂ’t find the puck by a private home.
Across private land is no place to roam.
