Just got back from Harriet. Did not find the medallion but, did find Mcdonalds. Drove down by the construction area where it has the Harriet Island brick entrance fenced in. It has a sign about an open space grant. Sounded good to me. We dug for a little bit. People coming and going, not staying too long. It sure is a big park, and tons of open area.

What I don't understand is where does the bank come in?

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:07 PM Permalink
Annette B.

I haven't figured out the bank clue either. Which park are you thinking? Last night I started to rationalize Phalen.

Just wanted to say hi! I'm going back out again pretty soon. I've been out all morning looking all over creation for that darn little thing!

One idea that i had was that in the activitise portion of Como Park where the slide and the ice maze etc is at, the Army reserve has set up a kind of "base camp". So to go 'off base' might have a double meaning and not just off the base ball field.

I looked at McMurray yesterday and then again this morning. So maybe I'll see you guys there.

Happy Hunting

I don't know...this cooler has gotten rather slow - perhaps everyone is out looking. I think they are still looking at Como, I am thinking Phalen, someone just checked Harriet, and there are other thoughts as well.

Just got back from AA. Met AW there. It is a big park and hard to dig in, I really don't want it to be there. Scribe's suggestion regarding the south side of Como near the Humane Society makes sense. Como is so crowded, but that area is not.

Who knows! Today I've been to Swede Hollow, Iris. Vally and Newell. I like Valley, but the clues are so Vague! There are a fair number of people at Como, I think.

I get bugged everytime I post and want to refresh I am asked if I want to repost or something like that. Such a hassle. If you click on one of the numbers next to a name, like 20316, then it will refresh and you won't get that message.

I was afraid the medallion would have been found by now, but the clues to mean any of many parks. I found at "treasurehunt's" website pictures of the parks, and the one about the Gillette's Children's Hospital that used to be there, and they gave a guy's name on it that I thought could be the man of mettle. So that is one reason I am thinking Phalen.

I still believe its at Arlington Arkwright, and am a little surprised not everyone sees it now that they have named two streets. And I think all the clues fit if you take fairly simple explanations.

1- Be bold (a new park)

2- Nothing really

3- Circular thinking means nothing more than think of balls like softballs, tennis balls, basket balls, all of which can be played there.

4- This is referring to a part of the park. I have an idea I don't want to elaborate on just yet.

5- The most obvious reference for a man of steel is Superman, which would make you think of Clark Kent as another man with mettle (never actually does say the other man is real). Clark St. rund into AA on its southern end. And then its apparently buried in a box of Dove something, probably soap since that has the whitest box.

6- There's lots of space for sledding as the park is very hilly.

7- The old way of travelling is a Desoto and Desoto St. borders the park.

Plus consider there has been no mention of water or picnic facilities yet and this park has neither of those. All in all, this reminds me of where we were two years ago. A Saturday afternoon after a tricky clue that gave us a street name and first led people to Conway. Once there, the clues make sense if you take them at their most simplistic level, except for one clue. So you can keep digging at Como if you want, or you can get a head start on the right park. My own friends don't believe me and I don't have the stamina to dig much myself, so it doesn't matter to me. I have horrible luck anyway and will never stumble on the right spot.

The Bank Clue the only thing I can think of is a Bank is Visable, or the Bird can pin point whre the treasure is, and a bank, is what its hidden in. But I was at como yesterday, found a bird, and a bank deposit slip, with a hole bunch of magizines, but I had no luck there.

in a fine fettle means: state or condition of health, fitness, wholeness, spirit or form - is there a healthclub near one of the parks or public areas? Allison - are you the one that told me about clicking on the number to refresh so I didn't have to go back? Thanks to whoever it was.

Hey Allison - Does Clark Street run right into AA? - Jill

Annette B.

Clue 7 - traveling the old way could just mean on foot, riding around could be biking - so a biking/walking path might be the way to go. What the heck does "our deal" refer to?

AW I'm wondering how accurate your Clark St interpretation is. It says look for his name "*around* our deal."

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:42 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Yes, it runs right into its back end between Desoto and Arkwright. i drove down it last night.

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:42 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I wondered that too, but around does also mean nearby.

Can somebody give me directions from ssp to Clark Street?

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:44 PM Permalink
kastinkerbell

But then, why wouldn't they say "near our deal"?

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:44 PM Permalink
Annette B.

I have a question - "around our deal" - does the PP have a stand at one of the parks for giveaways or other things for people when they go to one of the parks for Carnival activities? If they are selling t-shirts, handing out special edition papers at a certain park?

Sat, 01/27/2001 - 2:46 PM Permalink
kastinkerbell

Annette, I'm pretty sure they don't. I think that might be a little too obvious even if they did. They *are* selling T-shirts for the hunt, however.:)

Allison Wonderland

They can use whatever word they want, especially if it confuses people.

Take 52 to 94 west to 35E north to Maryland Ave. Turn right, go a few blocks to Arkwright, turn left, and the park will be on your right. You'll probably want to go all the way to Arlington.
