2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

the park itself is actually on the other side of the golf curses from the schools, soda.

Here's the Longfellow quote:

"Happy, thrice happy, every one Who sees his labor well begun, And not perplexed and multiplied, By idly waiting for time and tide!"

There's also one by Pope, which says "Time and tide wait for no man."

Warner is a good guess too..that park on warner, what do people think of that idea?

Also, Highland has water towers (tide) and battle creek has ponds (tide)

Will tell him MK - I think he is thinking he can just call me with the clue tonight to put online-but I am gonna be down at the PP myself- AND...Something would probly be wrong with my clue copying or presentation! -I get enough slack from my husband about presentation, let alone all of you! :)

This begs the question, is there anything we can do with both names?

Do you have any clues on what the puck might be hidden in? How big is it?

I wonder if the medalli9on would fit inside a white Tide bottle cap? They are quite large. Can anyone tell me if Fort Selling is considered one of the parks? It's down by the river and has some nice clearings in the campground.

I think "Time to kill" is throwing us off a little. Here is a Hiking reference--- Hikers motto "leave only footprints, Take only memories and kill only time."

I think it is a mention of hiking trails no more.

FYI- The Saint Paul Winter Carnival will be making a few changes due to the lack of cold weather and snow. The Snow Maze and Ice Maze are canceled at Winter Carnival Park (Como Park). But don't worry, the Affinity Plus Giant Snow Slide and snow sculptures will be built!

No, Fort Snelling is not in St. Paul.

I don't think that fort snelling is part of it. I'm not sure though.

What does Time and Tide have in common? "High" High Time, High Tide. High Time is another way of saying high noon. Its where the sun is the highest point of the day. High tide is the highest water level. Which means what is the highest point in St Paul? The old Water Tower in Highland Park hidden in a knitted hat.

I dont mean to look for it there, Im just saying the highest point in st paul is the old water tower. And youd want to stay away from the sledding hill because that is on the golf course. It all makes sense...wouldnt you all agree?

can the medallion be on a frisbee golf course, like at highland, because i know it can't be on a golf course

I know someone who knows someone who knows someones grandson who is from the pioneer press and they said that it is someplace by a sewer line.

If it is in Highland park, I don't want it. That park is really bigger than it looks. It also has a few of the Hunt taboos. Water tower-keep off, Golf Courses-keep off, and not a lot of parking.

hey guys, just got back from driving around. top three choices HARRIET island, 2-Battle creek, 3 Mounds Park. What do ya think?

Tue, 01/22/2002 - 5:08 PM Permalink
Rob Norris

CSsurf, you must not know highland too well. There is a huge parking lot you can park in and you can park along both sides of montreal ave is where that bridge is connecting both sides of the park.

I think you should eliminate Harriet--the rules explicitly state that it is not there.

Just heard the weather report for the weekend- highs in the upper 30's. Am afraid the hunt will go quickly once the park is nailed down!

What is the meaning on Trek?

Tue, 01/22/2002 - 5:10 PM Permalink
CSsurf

I am thinking Battle Creek, But, None of the clues spell out a specific Park. So far we may have-- That It is in a St Paul Park, By Hiking trails and a sledding hill. In a clearing or open field. May be in something knitted. I know it is early but I am thinking it is going to be hard for this thing to go very long with 1-2 inches of snow.

Harriet island. Time to kill(the jail) time and tide(all the historic stuff esp. the science museum and tide goes with the river and st. paul yacht club or more general all the boats.

Tue, 01/22/2002 - 5:10 PM Permalink

Battle creek. - trek is all the skiing that goes on esp. the cross-country skiers

I've dug at Highland, wore my self out down there. You are right Robb it would be on that side of the park if it were there. I don't think the clues have been very specific as to any one park. Clues still could work at about four different parks.
