It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Canine Sniffers
Hi everyone, we've been lurking for a while.... Can anyone list the St. Paul parks that are adjacent to golf courses?
But it hadn't snowed much that year earlier. I believe they were dropped during the first decent snowfall. When that bigger storm comes early, I believe it goes out early. At Newell, that thing was really buried. At Wakefield, it was on top of the ice under 2 feet of snow.
Not rite off the top o'my head, Sniffer... I don't think that's been posted here, either. Have you tried a search on The Web? I found quite a bit on www.sidewalk.com about parks - size, whether or not they have a golf course, etc.
I don't know either. Ittiz just the experience I've had that makes me think that they go out with the snow falls. Who really knows? The person who hides it.
I WAS THERE - PRETTY DARN CLOSE. I LEFT THE PARK ABOUT A HALF HOUR BEFORE IT WAS FOUND - CHAIR-O-KEY WAS PRETTY TORN UP - THE COOLER CREW WAS RIGHT ON IT.

So what is the absolute quickest way to get the clues? Is it online at 11:30? Or is it downtown at the PP like we used to do - or do the papers come out at 11:30 also - or is it earlier / later? Sure would be nice to have someone on the "inside".
It sucked how all the snow was stepped on, not dug up! remember this? On the otherside of the trees, I was the one who dug up that entire side too! If you see me say "hi"! I'm the 5'4 girl w/short brown hair and an oversized snowsuit!
Yep Vicki - I did that last year too. But if the person on the other end of the line operating the computer is "electronically challenged" - well let's just say I was better off waiting for the morning edition. Besides last year at Chair-O-Key I saw some guy with a laptop in the back of his pickup. He was on-line, had DeLorme mapping, metal detectors, all sorts of gadgets. Unbelievable. Don't know whether he was part of the crew or not.
It really varies, human 24. I'd say most years it has been buried, and always inside something, like a sock, an earmuff, a white castle box, often times the item its hidden in is white. One year it was in a hole in a dead tree. Another year it was taped or magnetized to the underside of a mailbox. Some years its been in a frozen clump of leaves and dirt; I think I've heard this was in years with little or no snow. I hope this helps.
Yeah Vicki - If you read some of the Bios on how the people found it in the past, they didn't have any real fancy gadgets. In fact alot of them showed up and within a half hour found it. Makes me think to dig for a half hour, jump in the car and drive around the block, come back dig for another half hour... keep doing that. Hey some guys a few years back showed up, didn't have anything to dig with - borrowed a shovel and 20 minutes later found it. Luck. But you know what they say - the harder you work the luckier you get.
Hmmmm.....Annivisery of the Winter Carnival?? I have a strong hunch it will be found in the park where the very first medallion was found. And also a friendly hello to all the WC gang from last year :)

ANY IDEAS
Sugarlips An announcer on WCCO radio today said it was in a park that didn't have a golf course----hmmmmm
Saint Paul Parks with golf courses on or near: Phalen, Como, Highland.
Maybee you're rite, Ter...
I don't know!

Any word about books, maps etc. re St. Paul Parks? We're relatively new to this and appreciate all your seasoned wisdom.
THINK ITS IN A SMALL PARK
Could bee, Sugar... All the clues are always interpreted differently by different folks.
Anyone else watching the Golden Globes in the background?
We have a Simple Plan...
Is there any parks along fairview? Clue states something about wasting time at the wrong scene.
who else was about 2 feet from where it was found last year?
I was two feet from where the medallion was found! I was the one wearing the oversized snow suit!

Hello GoldenBoy! We always had someone on the net pull it up for us, then they'd call us on the cell phone...We'd always be there before anyone
The power of my magic Frisbee may be fading, I fear. Anyone have a good incantation?

Another thing -- Is the medallion likely to be currently snow-covered or otherwise?
I think it's a pretty good bet that it's "snow covered".

yeah I seen him too! in a red pick up! but he wasn't the winner now was he? Just hard workers like us
One hour - just sixty minutes until the next clue. I've gotta find a cell phone, a computer jockey, and my sorels!
This year ittiz wrapped in an edition o'PP????? Would be neat!
Thanks, eags. If I can get the magic Frisbee adequately powered-up, it won't matter where it is or what it is in!

Hello All!
It is the 150th anniversary of the St. Paul Pioneer Press...not the Winter Carnival. The 100th anniversary of the carnival was a few years back.
Hay, Brad!
Ah, ittiz the anniversity o'The PioneerPress - not the Winter Carnival. 150 year's The Old Girl izz!!
Huummmm... That would bee Highland... And ittiz certainly got a golf course!!!
ncxm,zxc zxczx
Geez.. Wrong already hehehehe :) Anyway I'll be out a huntin' soon
So - does the reference to a golf course mean that the park is near a course (ie; Highland, Phalen, or Como), or NOT near a course?
Hi Brad J. What did you post under last year?
Boy, ittiz open to interpretation... Some think *with*, some think *without*.
I just read the 1952 clues, and Greg's xplination of them and am BAG!!! Soooooooooo funny!!!
Eagle Eye I was I_hid_it..
You know what?
Ford's the theatre Lincoln was shot in...
Green - I'm betting it's "without" since it wouldn't make sense to narrow things down to 3 parks on the very first clue.
I gotta ponder that, Boy. I think you may have a point there...
I'm followin' ya - Kennedy's secretary was Lincoln and both Lincoln and Kennedy were assinated.
I mean "ASSASSINATED" (sorry)
