Dear God No! Not the Beatles! Please stop!

Mr. Sysop, you have my permission (!) to edit that out.

Frosti: I was doing research (for my wife) on women's history. Vinnie Reamwas the sculptor of the Abraham Lincoln statue at the U.S. Capitol. I think it's an amazing photo of an amazing talented woman. (plus, she's beautiful)

I was just kiddin'. I actually got my first Beatles CD last week. "Sgt. Peppers.....". It's ok, for the Beatles.

No offense intended but, I just don't get it. I have many "Older" friends that are the same. I guess I'm just too young.

What do you think of Elvis?

How old are you JT?

The Beatles rule. I think you just have to find your personal angle with them. Everybody likes the Beatles in their own way. Except the people who don't.

JT has weird musical taste. :-p

Try The White Album if you want to widen your Beatle appreciation. It's got a little bit of everything.

THX - "Older"???? You young whipper snapper!! Hehehehehehe

In my opinion, the Beatles revolutionized music in their time. They pushed the envelope. Each new album expanded the use of technology and non-traditional instrumental music which in turn created new, never before heard "rock n roll". I believe their work laid the ground work for much of the music that has come since.

Elvis? Let's say I've learned to appreciate his music a bit more than I used to...but I don't own any of his music.

Word up Terry. I feel the same. I also think John Lee Hooker did the same thing for what later became rock and roll.

I'm 34. I don't hate the Beatles or anything. Just not my cup of tea.

You don't have to like them, but I think you do need to respect them. IMHO

We read. We just don't obey.

You don't obey.

How old are you're kids again, Frosti?

Wed, 03/20/2002 - 12:10 PM Permalink
Frosti

Almost three, why?

Wed, 03/20/2002 - 12:21 PM Permalink
THX 1138

Why

Cuz your not obeying will come back to haunt you.

Example:

THX-1138 to son: "How many times do I have to tell you......."

Son to THX-1138: "One hundred"?

Two minutes later:

THX-1138 to son: "Didn't I just tell you......"

Son to THX-1138: "I don't remember".

I'm pretty sure that once they get to that certain lovely age, they will be little smart-alecs no matter what I may or may not have done. Such is the joy of children. ;-)

JT-

If you're 34, then I think the age excuse lacks wings, because I'm 29, and I got into the Beatles when I was like 13.

I think the most user-friendly Beatles album is Abbey Road . The White Album is good, but if you're not a Beatles fan, then it's probably going to seem to be as many misses as hits. And some of the stuff is just not representative of their overall body of work--like Revolution #9 for example. Or Piggies . Or most of the White Album, really.

I'm a pretty big Beatles fan, but I never made the full conversion to CDs. The only two CDs of theirs I've gotten are Abbey Road and Rubber Soul.

Abbey Road is much less dated, I think.

Does that mean you're a vinyl junkie?

Does that mean you're a vinyl junkie?

No, it means that when I first was a huge fan of the Beatles, I listened to tapes, and so I have all the Beatles albums on tape, pretty much. But theay weren't on CD for a long time, and they've never really gone down in price, and I havem't been buying CDs very much for a few years now, so I just haven't stocked up.

I have lots of CDs - like 500 - just not many Beatles, and not many that I've bought in the past 5 years. ;)

i don't care what anyone says about the warmth created by using vinyl and vacuum tube amps. that warmth is essentially noise.

You don't see many "cassette tape junkies," do you?

Thu, 03/21/2002 - 6:09 AM Permalink
Lance Brown

I just haven't thrown mine out. I had a fully developed tape-based music library-- like 500 albums on tape-- and I've never had the heart to ditch them. Particularly because there are lots of things that I never upgraded to CD, so the tape is the only copy I've got of whatever it is. Including almost all the Bbeatles albums.

I haven't bought a tape in at least 10 or more years, except blank ones to tape the radio shows I've been on.

Thu, 03/21/2002 - 11:49 AM Permalink
Frosti

My wife talked me into selling all my tapes at a rummage sale when we were moving out of South Dakota.

What kind of radio programs are you on Lance?

Art Bell?

Isn't he the whackaloon who broadcasts all night about alien abductions and government conspiracies and stuff?

NO!

He's the radio pioneer who's willing to tackle the hard hitting issues no one else will touch.

Some of those issues just happen to be Alien Abductions & Government Conspiracies.

I do some broadcasting sometimes on a local non-profit radio station here in Nevada City: http://kvmr.org

Not as much lately, though. For a while, I was sort of co-host of my friend (Edie, co-owner of PF)'s show on that station.

Now, I mainly tape when my sound bites or interviews from my various political exploits are on. Usually local tidbits relating to the Nevada County Libertarian Party.

(or when I call into shows like Art Bell and such. ;)

Cool Lance. Looks like the station in town here that I enjoy listening to. http://www.kfai.org/

What show do you/did you co-host?

Thu, 03/21/2002 - 2:57 PM Permalink

Pirate Radio Network on Saturday nights. Not sure if it's still listed; Edie moved to San Fran last month and her show is no more.

What's she doing in San Fran? Is she no longer your business partner?

Still my business partner. She's in San Fran finishing up law school, and taking the bar exam relatively soon.
