So if we need a park with or near water that has a lot of hiding places that don't need snow, and has paths that lead through a lot of historical items, I think you're looking at Indian Mounds,...
Aw you say water is in the park. Where's water at IM? The river?
I found myself dreaming about fire hydrants last night. That was a reminder to me that one year at Cherokee, the water clue when the explanations came out was that it was near a fire hydrant.Â
Of course, we would hope that no fire hydrants are frozen, but it was a reminder to keep an open mind with all the possibilities.
So now, after a night of digging around fire hydrants, I'm heading off to work.Â
I gotta hit the sack. I'll probably need to cancel the Comcast guy today. Just too tired from being up for over 24 hours on little sleep to begin with. SCD's all
No it just bugs me when people are angling for credit on ideas, I think this is more of a team sharing ideas, than a contest to see who can say something first. Thats just one my pet peeves, I'll let it go now.
One thing I'm not sure if anyone has posted, but I'm thinking it's a larger park, or a mid-sized park with a path around a lake/pond. Smaller parks have paths, but can you go around them a while without going crazy?
Mornin' all And VERY good to see you ESD. The only problem I have with the river theory, is that it's not 'quite frozen' Otherwise- I've been aching for a HF or Crosby hunt.
Aw you say water is in the park. Where's water at IM? The river?
The clue says "The water's quite frozen AT this park we have chosen". It doesn't say "IN this park". Consequently I don't think the water necessarily has to be in the park. It could be referring to the river in a park that borders the river.
So tell me if you think this is a clue, although I'm not quite sure if it's a clue for or against. While I'm not sure, I would suspect someone might have asked the cluewriter if a place like Indian Mounds was considered off limits. Last year in their articles about the hunt, they made a point of saying it was ok for the medallion to be in Maplewood and voila! it was in Maplewood. If it was in Indian Mounds, you would think they might have printed a question like that and simply answered that all parks not voided in the rules are in play. But they didn't. Conversely, if someone did ask that question, and they didn't use it, could it be because they don't want to draw attention to that park after all?
You know, I get so excited for the hunt every year that I always forget how frustrating the first few days can be. I think it's tough to really make to much sense out of the first couple clues until you have a few more to help put them in perspective. At this point the info we have leads us to a park with water (in or next to, as AW mentioned) and probably walking paths of some sort.
I went to see the mvoie yesterday with my singles club and as I was coming out there was a guy with a microphone there. He asked to interview one of the guys in my singles club, but he said he didn't really know much and suggested he talk to me instead. So we did like a 5 minute interview. I was used to answering questions about the hunt from being interviewed by Trent so much so I guess they liked what I had to say.
He's got a good radio voice.
I have to say I hated hearing my voice in the movie. I never liked my voice at all, although I've had several people tell me they thought I had a good radio voice. I have the radio on now so I guess I'll find out if it's true or if they were all on crack.
With regards to the White christmas statement- - - > Bing Crosby???
Thats what I said... :)
White Christmas ! The song White Christmas is undoubtedly the most famous and popular of all the Christmas songs. The music and lyrics for White Christmas were written by Irving Berlin in 1942 and originally featured in the movie Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby. The lyrics of White Christmas struck a chord with the soldiers fighting in the Second World War and their families who were waiting for them back home. The song and recording of White Christmas by Bing Crosby with John Scott Trotter's orchestra and the Ken Darby Singers was so popular that it was later reprised in the movie called after its name - White Christmas. The film White Christmas once again starred Bing Crosby together with Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. The costumes of red velvet and white fur worn in the film charmed cinema goers everywhere and these together with the wonderful lyrics of White Christmas has ensured its continuing popularity to this day
I was looking at maplewood also, the part about the ice is here to stay bugs me, could be ice that is there year round, like an indoor hockey rink, or could mean a st name like frost.
AW, that's very interesting... I would think that IF the question were asked that they wouldn't be shy of answering, because it wouldn't neccisarly draw to much attention. It's just answering the question of a long held myth.
The other part of it is, perhaps it wasn't answered just because the clue writer wanted to purposely keep Indian Mounds vague, to keep the weirdos away from digging around the mounds?

Can you check the list? Upthread you have G Sax listed. It should be G. Sax. If that's the way you have it on your list, then never mind
In regards to the first clue, I'm pretty sure the "old curmudgeon" is Joe Soucheray and "in high dudgeon" refers to his reactions to last year's hunt.
That's what I get. Could later noodle out of it what it's in/attached to. But I don't think so.
Just a typo on my part. He's got access to the thread.

Good Morning!

Not much to noodle yet.
I like the river for curmudgeon, Old man river.
That's a good idea.
It'll be slow around here for a bit. It will pick up later today.
Listening to MPR this morning--twice I've Heard AW this morning. Freaky.

And we're all very proud of you, I'm sure LL just skipped over it like most of the rest of us because there are so many damn posts.
someone a bit cranky today?
No it just bugs me when people are angling for credit on ideas, I think this is more of a team sharing ideas, than a contest to see who can say something first. Thats just one my pet peeves, I'll let it go now.

Sorry if it came across that way. It wasn't my intention.
OTS...last night I said I think that BATS could mean caves. You like?
Sorry if it came across that way. It wasn't my intention.
We're cool, I just don't want other people to be afraid to post their ideas because someone else might have already said it.
Smaller parks have paths, but can you go around them a while without going crazy?
What are you getting at here?
[Edited by Michele30 on Jan 24, 2005 at 06:54am.]
I like that OT
twice I've Heard AW this morning.

Morning crew sorry I snapped last night.
 ÂÂ
As you all know I like Mounds=)
 ÂÂ
Hey, very nice to see you back ESD, you have us worried for a second there.
Just glad your back ESD :) Don't let em' get to ya :)
Can't leave good friends like you guys.
Mornin' all And VERY good to see you ESD.
The only problem I have with the river theory, is that it's not 'quite frozen' Otherwise- I've been aching for a HF or Crosby hunt.
Hi ya ESD.... Glad everything is cool
You know.. I like Mounds too.....

Men are all alike!
Earlier, I believe it was OT who came up with something about BATS, where did that come from?
So tell me if you think this is a clue, although I'm not quite sure if it's a clue for or against. I was rushing through the posts to see if anyone else put this together....
The reason that the first part of clue 2 was rushed, was because it had something important int it???
So...
White Christmas.....Irving Berlin tune, first used in the Movie Holiday Inn, starring Bing CROSBY...
If I am noodling this right, KT... you may get your wish after all for a hunt at Crosby...
You know, I get so excited for the hunt every year that I always forget how frustrating the first few days can be. Nice observation KT!
Anybody need/want a snow suit? Large. Used to fit me (i'm 5'10) but it's too tight now (I'm getting fat). Good shape. blue. Let me know.
Thats what I said... :)

Maybe the clue writer is giving us the park in the first clue this year.
