Discuss the 2005 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt here.

He could spend 11 clues then just funnin with us and then say in the last clue its five feet from this sign in this park. I would like to go back to the old days have the writer slowly but surely tell us what park it is in, not what park it isn't in.
The hunt has become much more sophisticated than it was in the past. It has to because of the internet and the books and the number of hunters. Years ago, even as recently as the '70's, you never saw the mobs that you do now. So if they want the hunt to go more than a couple of days they have to make it difficult. Take a look at some of the clues from years ago.Â
The "help it's a prank" = "it's phalen park" clue from last year had many, including myself, refusing to believe that it was truely hidden there. It would have been some prank to give that clue and not have it at the park.
Here we are again a year later with the same scenario. Clues point towards Crosby, but we have the "not very white Christmas" and "neither cliffs nor water's edge" and "siren's" lure suggesting we are being decieved. Are they pulling a Phalen are is this really a trick? I guess we'll know soon enough.
There's sumpin weird about the ","s in today's Clue.
It should read "Don't run helter-skelter, seek out solid shelter."
The adjective is spelled with a "-", and you'd not have two "," because helter-skelter modifies "run."Â That first comma's bugging me, as is the lack of hyphen.
Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes! Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise! My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream --- Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream!
Thou stock dove whose echo resounds thro' the glen, Ye wild whistling blackbirds in yon thorny den, Thou green-crested lapwing, thy screaming forbear --- I charge you, disturb not my slumbering fair!
How lofty, sweet Afton, thy neighbouring hills, Far mark'd with the courses of clear, winding rills! There daily I wander, as noon rises high, My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in my eye.
How pleasant thy banks and green vallies below, Where wild in the woodlands the primroses blow; There oft, as mild ev'ning weeps over the lea, The sweet-scented birk shades my Mary and me.
Thy crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides, And winds by the cot where my Mary resides! How wanton thy waters her snowy feet lave, As, gath'ring sweet flow'rets, she stems thy clear wave!
Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes! Flow gently, sweet river, the theme of my lays! My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream --- Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream!
OTS, I guess thats why in 2 of the last 4 years the puck has been found by people who really aren't hunters but happened to be in the right place at the right time.Â
Actually, tim, it never bothers me when I'm not first with the clue. I like that there are others posting it. Last year, I got some nasty grams from folks who would be waiting for it, and I decided to go out hunting. I know it is not fun to wait the extra hour for it, so if folks wanna beat me, I'm happy.
Yeah I know Dave, I was just messing with you because I know people made it a competition at some point last year and you were like 'darn, you beat me'.
Well, if you are digging in Crosby and find a Trojan, check the contents for a medallion.
That is officially your job from now on because you thought of it first. I am sure you can find lots of 'treasures'. Ewwwwwww.
Though I know not alot about Highland park having grown up on the other side of St Paul, from the maps I've seen it looks like there was an artifical waterfall that flowed into the swimming hole. That could very well be your "once blue pond."
Also moss grows on the north of rock and trees correct? Highland would be just north of Crosby.
1. The song and the movie "White Christmas" (starring Bing Crosby) are about Christmas not being white and wishing that it was so saying "not very white Christmas" is a direct reference to the theme of the movie and song.
2. In 1954 when the chest was at HF (basically the same geography as Crosby) they also warned:
Safety first has been our rule Ever since we went to school; Don't risk your neck in dangerous pursuit, For even a child could find this loot.
They weren't saying that to be safe you had to avoid Hidden Falls altogether, just to be careful while there.
I really think that we're just dealing with a similar situation as in the past few years: really big park so make the park obvious in earlier clues and narrow it down (hopefully not) the last night.
Well howdy everyone. Just got back from Swedish class, so my mind is not in the mode for deciphering clues, it's in translation mode. Not gonna even try to noodle for awhile. But I'm heading out to Crosby a little later. Anyone else gonna be there?
I've read some posts where people are refering to the shelter as being the north end of the park but really it's SW so lets just call that side West! Agreed?
THX- at the American Swedish Institue, which is on Park Ave and 26th st. just south of downtown mpls. They offer 10 week long, once a week classes. It's pretty cool. They have a lot of stuff going on there.
I've been focused on Crosby since making the Homer connection Tuesday night, but want to keep an open mind. I keep hearing about other parks. Is anyone willing to share a compelling argument for another park?
That's why I asked. I don't know anything about it, but if people are out there, they must be seeing something we aren't. I guess I'll look at streets and stuff online.
I think there are people digging in nearly every park. ...For the very reasons that get tossed around here. Every clue means different things to different people.
Why couldn't we just redo last year, it was a lot easier
Clue 2 is killin' me... The ice has come to stay??? come from where?? to where???
But clue 2 is so horribly laid out, there HAS to be a hidden meaning in there somewhere... like something that you can't get from reading it the way it is stated... Know what I mean? Like in clue 2, last year... It had a double meaning in the first line, but token was a word relating to the street, and was irrelevant to the rest of the first 2 lines, which referred to the comic...
He could spend 11 clues then just funnin with us and then say in the last clue its five feet from this sign in this park. I would like to go back to the old days have the writer slowly but surely tell us what park it is in, not what park it isn't in.

Thats the point... to figure out what they are really saying...
I have to say Bravo to the writer if this is the case.
He's got us doing exactly what we're being told not to do.
The "help it's a prank" = "it's phalen park" clue from last year had many, including myself, refusing to believe that it was truely hidden there. It would have been some prank to give that clue and not have it at the park.

If anyone's going to Crosby & has an excess of wood, bring it. I'm gonna try and keep a fire going.....For as long as it takes.

I think the Clue Writer's telling us NOT to go helter-skelter. NOT CROSBY.
Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes!

My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream ---

This is too elaborate a deception. It's got to be Crosby. Can you imagine the clue explainations if it was a deception.Â

I was just on the Highland Park website. It refers to the old pool as "swimming hole" vs a pool.

Anyone know anything about Shamrock Park in Shoreview? I heard there are a lot of people digging out there.

Does anyone know anything about Shamrock Park in Shoreview? Apparently lots of people are digging out there.
Stal- I'll be out there around 1. I'll egram you my cell if you want to meet up out there.
Sounds good Tim, that's around when I was planning on being there.
I think that would be a green christmas... Maybe green is the cluewriter, and she is never in the right park because of it...
Sooooo... she is givin' her buds a hint and sayin that it is at BC,,, where she always thinks it is...
Pretty sneaky, green... Were on to you now... :)
Just got back from Swedish class
Where do you take Swedish classes?
I've read some posts where people are refering to the shelter as being the north end of the park but really it's SW so lets just call that side West! Agreed?

I've no compelling reason for any other park, that's for sure. Crosby really fits.

I looked at map of Shamrock
NO sene to me??
I like Highland - ;) shhhh its a secret tho!
I think there are people digging in nearly every park. ...For the very reasons that get tossed around here. Every clue means different things to different people.
So do I Randy, and it's no secret. ;)
*yawns* I have a headache :(
Maybe not just Highland, but I don't think it's at Crosby.
I am dying this year on these clues... Grrrrr....
Why couldn't we just redo last year, it was a lot easier

Wish we were getting the history lesson clue...
Only thing I saw was a football field (hikin), a skating rink (figure), and that it's on Snelling (General).
Channel 5 was at Crosby filming for their news show.
