Me n Shaggs were out there the other day (we been walkin round the lake on basically a nightly basis around midnight or so), and we stopped by Hells Pit.... the big ass bonfire area that was on the dirt path by round lake and the pump house is still there.. complete with logs and stuff.
I just started reading..."The treasure hunt" by Roger Barr...so far I like it..only a chapter in....
It's kinda neat how you can find a little of every hunting scenario in those stories. I fit the obsessed loner at one time but now maybe a bit more of the family guy.
Anyone still interested in the park clean up at Phalen? I know after the hunt there had been talk of a few people wanting to help out with that. I got a thread started in the geocaching folder, it's working out to be a joint venture by having the clean up, and anyone that wants to geocache (or learn how) can stick around to do that.
yo yo yo wut up homies??? Haha just kiddin.. wutz goin on cooler heads?? I'm fixin to leave here for work in a bit but thought I'd drop in and say hi!! Me2 and her hubby came and visited me at muh work last nite and claimed their free food!! I had a blast shootin the shiznit with em.. even tho I didn't get to talk much cuz I was busy. :)
When I got that book(from an uncle at Christmas the yr before last-he got it signed-best present that yr)... I opened to the back (I can't recall what for at the time-think I was looking for a name or a clue idea or something) BUT, accidentally saw the ending!!! :( and I drive past the park daily.
Hey Me2, maybe you know this as well. I read in a book once that there was a small marker marking the original location of the St. Paul church that St. Paul was named after, somewhere down by kellogg. Have you seen any mention of this? Ever seen the mark?
funny the book that I bought off amazon used books looks like a stolen book from a library....and it doens't look like it was sold from the library..per the stickers on it...

KC- It should be marked in the treasure hunt guide in Kellogg park-
LOCAL HISTORY LESSON AHEAD... ;p
There is a huge boulder with a blurb about the church -it's located on the far east end of Kellogg park- The church was actually located on BENCH ST (which is now 2nd st) -between Cedar and Minnesota Streets. There was even a graveyard where 3rd st (Kellogg is now)!!!!
If you really want to know... Benjamin Gervais and Vetal Guerin both donated a portion of their land to Galtier for the 1st church which was built and then dedicated on "All Saints Day" November 1st, 1841.
It was approx 25 ft long by 18 feet wide and 10 feet tall. It had one single window on each of the 3 sides and a door on the side that faced the river, at a cost of approx $65.
Minnesota became a Territory March 3rd,1849 became a state on May 11th, 1858.
note a sad story: The church was dismantled in 1856. When it was taken apart, every log was numbered. The story "theory" goes that supposedly the wood was then moved to where the Cathedral was being built where some men who were helping build the Cathedral got cold and started a bonfire to stay warm --OOOOPS...they thought the logs were scrap wood. :( ... I don't personally think this bonfire happened where the Cathedral is now because of the dates -I think it happened but somewhere else in transit or where the 2nd Cathedral/church was built (don't ask me where that was ;0)
Nope nope North of Front Ave. My family owns it Frosti.. it's called Papa Mike's Pizza. We're right on the corner of Rice St. and Cook Ave. across the street from Washington Jr. High and the Bradshaw Funeral Home. We're closed for 3 wks tho because they're remodeling the kitchen. I'm down in Tulsa, Oklahoma right now helping some family out. I needed the xtra cash seein as I'm outta work for a few wks.. but the shop's supposed to open back up on April 26th. I should be home sometime next week providing I get all the work done down here!! I'm having a blast! Unfortunately I gotta miss lilslim's bday :( I promised her I'd go.. but I NEEDED the money... so I really didn't have a choice. Sorry hun.. ya know I love ya right?! Laterz!!

I lived down here for 4 years before going back to MN. It's so awesome to be back!!! What part of T-Town are your relatives from me2? I'm on the W. side of Tulsa.. on W. 78th st.
I think this would make for a great get together spot for some future events---no booze though ;)

Note: Winter Carnival Ice Block number on the wall at Mikes Pizza = 3096 ;)
I bought an autographed copy at the Goodwill a year or so ago. It's out on loan right now. I'm not even sure who has it at this point. Maybe Lilman?
I've got a copy if anyone wants to read it.
