If possible, it would be nice to get an autographed copy. Please put my name on that list.

Thanks, everyone, for all your comments! Its been a fun day.

We are working on how best to get books out to all those who have requested. Definitely can do signed copies - I will coordinate with my sister on that.

I will e-mail or PM anyone who has posted an interest, with details, in the next few days.

I woke up to the phone call about this at 7:50 this morning and am still at it, with some minor diversions to prepare food, eat, and take care of other pressing writing business. Am still in my jammies! But what a fun day.

I enjoyed the story about your aunt, Eags. I know a Carol Ward. Is she connected to the schools in some way? Can't remember exactly why I recognize the name.

Carol is a piano teacher, also administers a meals-on-wheels type program. She taught school in her early married life, but we're talking early 1960s - Garfield school in St. Paul. Does that ring any bells? Small world, for sure - Carol is Becksie's neighbor!

A friend here will be holding her sixth annual Floozy Tea Party next month.

Its a "high society, high hilarity" gathering of women, who come decked out in their finest floozy wear (interesting what a lot of them find at the thrift store - but last year, I wore black palazzo pants with a shortie velvet Santa nightie for a top), enjoy a "tea" of pasties and crumpets and other assorted yummy things, share talents, and then if its hot out we all go jump in the lake.

This year, we've decided to borrow a chapter from The Sweet Potato Queens books (if you haven't read them, you are in for a laugh riot!) who believe that every woman is Queen of Whatever She Chooses, and she holds the title for life or until she decides she wants to be Queen of Something Else.

So, it got me to wondering, Cooler Crew Chicks: what are YOU Queen of?

Next year, the Floozy Tea Party will involve renting the Marquette trolley, and having them take us to various spots around town for lunch, dessert, and finish it off with a cruise out on the Lake. We're going to call it "Trollops on the Trolley".

Drummer and Jen went back to North Dakota yesterday. They were so reluctant to leave, and I was happy they stayed an extra day, but they know they are welcome to visit whenever they want and stay as long as they can.

Little wedding ideas are starting to leak out, although still no date set yet.

Sounds like they would like to get married here in the Marquette area.

Possibly as soon as late this autumn, or as far away as a couple of summers from now.

Today I subconsciously procrastinated against getting a book on how to stop procrastinating.

A friend told me about the book "Eat That Frog! - 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating".

I checked the library website - a copy was available. I drove to the library, found the book, and went to check out, only to remember that I'd cleaned out my purse Saturday, and pared down what was in my pocket-sized ID/credit card/money purse before going to the local Renaissance faire. In the process, I left my library card on the kitchen table.

I'll pick it up this evening after Frodo and I make our beach visit.

Meanwhile, I am procrastinating against sorting out a bunch of paperwork. It is far more compelling to click on my e-mail page and my favorite websites over and over to see if there is anything new!

Well, its another Friday night in widowland.

Sometimes the weekend looms large before me, and not in a good way.

I went out for dinner this evening, to a small Chinese restaurant where I feel comfortable dining alone. I take a book, but if it isn't busy, the waitress plops herself down at my table and we teach each other about Chinese and American customs and traditions.

Tonight, it was busy in there, so I was into my book. The couple at the next table were clearly tourists, so I found an opportunity to strike up a conversation with them.

Small world - they are from St. Paul - the Macalaster/Groveland area. We never did exchange names, but I know the woman has a quilt entered in the MN state fair. I am going to be in MN for a couple of days, and on Monday the 27th, my friend Vicky and I will be spending the whole day and evening at the state fair, so I will be sure to look for her quilt, which her husband proudly described to me.

If any of y'all Coolerheads are going to be at the fair that day, let me know - maybe we can meet up and at least say howdy.

We are going to see Weird Al at the grandstand show that evening.

Good morning Coolerheads!

No rain or anything here yet, but looks like its headed this way.

Just had quite the little treat!

I just went out on the back deck - noticed a deer as I was stepping out. Frodo came out too. A fawn then joined its mama - the fawn had been a little closer to the backyard fence and was perhaps a little startled by me. Both mama and baby stood, like they were in a freeze-frame, and watched me. I told them they didn't need to be afraid - they continued to stay in that freeze-frame, while everything else was moving in the breeze.

When Frodo and I went back inside, they still stayed frozen there for a moment, then resumed munching on their breakfast.

Sometimes I see them every day, sometimes not for a month or more. It will never stop being a thrill to see them. I always hope they will come out when company is here.

I love mornings like those Eags- thanks for sharing yours.

as for the quilts and the fair. I havn't quilted in some time. Life feels complicated at times and I cant find time to concentrate on the quilting... I have one Ive worked slowly on for a few years- its Cinderella and her castle. All tedious details and hand piecing with the mice and all --- I would like to someday enter it at the fair.

I love the state fair! I do try to walk through the arts&crafts building but Im pulling my kids teeth to drag them through it - so I try to go it alone or meet up with friends or family later cause I don't have anyone that has the quilting intrest as I do. I always take pics of my favorites and the huge quilt at the end on display. I think last year was the Last Supper. Here is a pic of the beautiful Indian woman from 2004

We always dragged the kids through the homemaking building too. I always thought they probably hated it too, but now when we go to the fair they have to go through it and I don't really care anymore.

Funny how things change.

Eags, the open house was wonderful! Your aunt was beaming and I never glanced her way that she wasn't smiling. This truly was a day she'll never forget.

And I met Carol too. I told her she would have to come along the next time there is a gathering of the Cooler Crew. She said she would the next time you're in the cities and there is an event. Hope she does.

Harriet's great-grandson has been working on setting up a website for the book and its coming along so nicely - I got a sneak peak at it today.

I'll post a link when its fully operational.

I talked to Drummer last night. He got a piano!!!

I asked him if he can still play Moonlight Sonata.

    The story behind that is:

When Drummer was barely able to stand and reach up to the piano keys, he showed an interest in music. I can play simple versions of things, and had a book with a fairly simple version of Moonlight Sonata. When Drummer was around three years old, he asked me to teach him how to play it. So, one measure at a time, I taught it to him - he memorized it.

But, even at three, he played with feeling.

One evening, at a church supper in the church basement, Drummer, dressed in his little three-piece pin-striped suit from JC Penney, approached the piano and climbed up on the bench.

There were audible gasps and murmerings from the typical "church lady" types - oh no! he's going to bang on that piano! and his mother is not doing a thing to stop him!

But Drummer sat there, his copper hair gleaming in the lights, and played a very feeling rendition of that Beethoven sonata.

And you could have heard a pin drop, long after he left he piano and sat back down at our table.

    Fast forward to last night.

I asked Drummer if he can still play Moonlight Sonata.

He replied, "well, apparently, I never could".

He explained that he'd decided to play Moonlight Sonata for his piano final last year, got the music, and quickly realized it was much, much more difficult than he was ready for.

He'd gotten the version with ALL the notes and probably its in a more difficult key too.

Then realized he probably wasn't the virtuoso he'd thought, all these years.

However, considering where its taken him, maybe its not a bad thing to believe in yourself that way!

The thing I find amazing is that he ever thought *I* was playing the hard version of ANYTHING!!!

Feeling kinda sad tonight. I will be driving home tomorrow and while I love my home and will be glad to be sleeping in my own bed again, I don't look forward to the drive alone, and I dread the silent house.

I will be coming back down here for turkey weekend, weather permitting, but nonetheless reluctant to leave.

And yet, if I could be home this minute, I would be.

My sister is letting me take her cell phone home with me. That will help. I need to get a cell phone, especially since I will be going back and forth more now.

I got an offer yesterday to help collect clinical data for one of my clients. It will start in April and will involve one or two trips per month to San Francisco. So, I might get to meet Vino in person! Meanwhile I have a box of medical journal articles to review and summarize, which will keep me busy through the winter.

This is the part of the job I loved the most, in my last job. Being there for the real thing. But travel has changed so much since my last business trip, which was August 2001. I don't have to say yes or no to this offer right away - will give it some thought - but my gut feeling is that it could be a huge key to a secure future and a way to ease my transition and move.

Well, I am off to sleep. Perhaps a fresh day will put a different perspective on things.

The "Dog Lady" sent me an e-mail today - someone she knows is looking for a home for a dog that looks quite a bit like Frodo.

My heart is breaking that I can't take him.

But I am letting people know about him, in case he is just what someone is looking for. Please think if anyone you know can give him a good home.

Here is the text that came with the pics, and I will try to post the pics here, too.

Help me find a home for this Dog, friends of mine can no longer care for him. They live in L'Anse but will deliver him to you or me at the lodge. I can care for him for a few days until the new loving owner can come for him or I can deliver. Owners will give $200.00 for food and have next years Heartworm meds. They also have a fiberglass dog house as dog likes the outdoor enviroment. This is truely a wonderfull dog and would be great companionship for a loving owner. I stopped them bringing him to the Human Society for now, but he is on the wait list for Houghton Human Society as they do not destroy un adopted animals. However, if it takes to long to go there, he is bound for the MQT. Humane Society where they do that terrible thing. Pass this on and please help me. I know this dog and he is right up there in dispositon and loyalty.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Silas is a 5 year old neutered Male Boarder Collie/ Shepard mix. All shots are current. Silas is a very loving dog that tries to talk..loves to give kisses and wag his tail and happy to welcome you home. Loves everyone. Only barks at deer and raccoons. Catches mice. Walks nicely on a leash. Is afraid of lighting and thunder unless you are in the room with him. Needs to be kept on a leash or a fenced yard. I just called "Steve" who is trying to find a home for this dog.

The dog was owned by a woman who moved to Colorado, and left the dog with her parents until she could send for him. Meanwhile, her marriage fell apart and she is not in a situation presently to take him. Also, although the parents have had the dog now for two years, the mom wants to keep him, but the dad doesn't like it that deer won't come real close to his yard because the dog scares them off. Not chasing the deer, but more like the deer and dog interact and the deer run off instead of staying to feed.

He thought the dog probably doesn't weigh more than 50 pounds which sounds about right and this dog may weigh somewhere between 40-50 pounds by the looks of him.

Steve did help me feel better, though, about my not being able to take the dog. I am not done grieving Frodo and I really think my reasons for taking him would not be the right ones.

He does feel the dog will find a home, too, and he will do everything he can to help that effort.
