Thanks, me2! It helps to know someone else "gets" what I'm saying.
It sounds like I could have written something pretty similar to what you wrote - thanks for that!
I think I just need to stay consistent in screening the calls most of the time, and continuing to make it clear that if I accept all her invitations, I will have no time or money to do things with my other friends too. (I have told her this before, and it is way true!)
Scroll down and click on "Listen to Call" to hear the amazing sounds this bird makes! There are also "peepers" in the recording - some of my favorite spring sounds, but the kok kok kok and the oong ka chunk (which I think sounds like a gurgling water cooler) would have to be cool to hear.
It is not rare, but it is rarely seen. I want to see it, but after hearing the sounds it makes, I really, really want to hear it.
I know the feeling. Who wants to feel "taken"? I have a set amount in my head for the house if I had to sell and I won't take less even though the appraisals came in lower, I don't care.
I will not feel taken in the end for someplace Ive been for so long and put so much in to.
Gearing up for Drummer and Jen's wedding, which will be one week from today!
They arrived in MQT a week ago, have been meeting with various people to finalize plans and arrangements.
This weekend they are camping at Hiawatha Music Festival and I am taking care of my GrandDog, Sam.
Lots of family and friends will be arriving Thursday and Friday. I am looking forward to this long-awaited event, and to welcoming Jen into our family.
Drummer is probably part Scottish (on his dad's side of the family - the family has never been much about talking about their heritage and say they are mostly Heinz 57). Both my sons do have very Scottish looks.
I did see the movie. I really liked it. And, despite being 2 hours long, it never seemed to drag.
As I was walking into the movie theater, I commented to my friend that I should go to this tea party as Julia Child. Gave me plenty of opportunity to notice her costuming.
I related to that movie on so many levels. I didn't learn to cook (other than hot dogs, or opening a can of soup) until I was 35. When Da Yooper and I got married and I had more time to cook, I started making a limited repertoire of specialty meals. In the first few years of widowhood, when everyone says don't turn down any offers of food people bring or invite you over, well, there weren't any such offers because I didn't really know anyone here well enough to even be on their radar, so I started inviting people over for dinner. I found I could lose myself in cooking. It was a very healing occupation for my time.
So, it turned out to be very fitting to see the movie Julie and Julia on the sixth miserversary. Julia was inspired by author Irma Rombauer, who survived the financial and emotional devastation of losing her husband at a young age, and the publication of her book The Joy of Cooking allowed her to support herself and her young children.
Julie, in turn, was inspired by Julia Child, by not only her cooking, but by her character and her joy for life and good food, and her commitment to teaching anyone who wanted to learn how, to cook wonderful meals.
My house is showing later today. But after the lookers leave, I'm going to make a recipe from the movie. Boeuf Bourguignon. When Julie took the lid off that casserole - oh my - I just knew I had to make it!
Yes, it is almost 10PM where I live, but this is what I like to do in the evening. Will sample a bit when it is done, and put the rest away for tomorrow night. I hear it only gains in flavor for the waiting...
To any of my Cooler friends, who may have the space and time to be able to give a home to Shetland sheep, please read on:
Flock of Shetland Sheep Desperately In Need of New Home
The folks at Dancing Crane Farm have a friend who must place a flock of Shetland Sheep (approximately 14 of them) within the next week. She has been boarding them temporarily at her farm in the Copper Country (Western Upper Peninsula of MI). The owner can no longer take care of them. They are a healthy happy flock of hardy little critters that produce excellent wool, do well on pasture and require little maintenance. If you or someone you know could provide a good home for these beautiful animals, please get in touch with Natasha. This is a very dire situation where the flock will most likely be put down if homes cannot be found. PLEASE HELP!
My parents house sheep in an old horse barn on the property - they have about 2-1/2 acres for grazing, so they don't keep very many - about 8-10 at the most. We used to have sheep for 4-H projects growing up, and when we went off to college they offered the land to the younger 4-H kids with sheep in the area.
Disappointing news! We just got word that only two sheep were spoken for, so a place is still needed for a flock of Shetland Sheep (approximately 12 of them left) ASAP. They are being boarded in the Copper Country (western Upper Peninsula). They are a healthy happy flock of hardy little critters that produce excellent wool, do well on pasture and ... Sheep update: Ten sheep were placed. The remaining four, well, they are still working on that. I passed along the suggestions for places they can contact (Midwest Sheep Rescue, etc.). Sounds like the person who "owns" them now is putting up some roadblocks, not because he wants to keep them, but, well, I won't go into it here.
Anyway, I found out that these animals were some of many who were left behind when their original owner died suddenly, and the owner's wife was too overwhelmed to continue to care for the farm alone. Neighboring farmers immediately helped out, and helped place quite a number of dogs and farm animals.
This was the one placement that really didn't pan out the way it should have. But the farmers are still trying to get the right things happening for these last four sheep.
Thanks again to everyone who posted suggestions or passed the contact info along to Natasha.
I'll be down in mid-November. Will be staying in Chaska to help while my brother recovers from eye surgery. But I should be able to get away for a pizza night!
We'll have to figure out a date when it gets closer.

It was about how anxiety-provoking it is when people make comments like that, especially negative one, always asking, "What's wrong?"
And a few other things that were pretty closely related to my earlier post. Very reinforcing.
Thanks for your insight and input!
Mom and Dad are still bringing lots of food to the nest.

So cool - when the eaglets are asleep, you can see them breathing.
One of my friends has seen it three times and it seems to have been trying to court her yesterday.
It is a brown heron-like bird.

it is very nice to see something gentle and in a feel good atmosphere in the Cooler every now and again.
thanks for sharing her day. Congratulations on the new addition to the family.
He kinda looks related to Rush Harley
is he Scottish?
