The important thing to remember about a private social bet is that it cannot be part of "organized, commercialized, or systematic gambling." The owner of the location of the social bet cannot derive any profit from the bet, organize regular occasions for such bets, or advertise their occurrence.

The owner has nothing to do with this. It's good that THX brought this up though.

Are we saying that this stuff is set in stone, or are we going to allow that people bring stuff up for discussion, and decide if we want to keep things or not?

I think we will tweak as issues are brought up.

put it in the same spot...

or log out and back in....should stop.

Nevermind. I just tried making a new move with the post above and it canceled the other one.

You can't move a post to the same spot unless it's the last spot in the discussion. It always moves posts after the last post no matter where you want to place it.

Things seem to have quieted down - at least here where we can see what's being said.

I sure hope they stay quiet.

I found it interesting that someone thought there had been some wordsmithing done to the Code - and there hadn't been.

I swear one of these days this will be a peaceful, fun place again.

It's just too hard to address all the questions when they're flying at you at breakneck speeds. Most of them I would just simply answer, what do you think we should do?

Go ahead and answer any questions as they come up.

There is always the continuing question about how the moderators were chosen and for how long.

I don't know what the answer to that one is...except THX hand selected those of us here. The reasons each were selected escape me at the moment, but mainly it was that each one selected showed a goodly amount of maturity and common sense - and were around these parts often enough that the boards would be covered most of the time.

I got lucky because I've been around for so dang long and have a vested interest in things going well here.

There were some that were purposefully not selected because they were either hot-headed or showed lack of judgement.

I don't think we want to share that.

Steph just thought something had been changed because she read the thing at 2 in the morning.

Then she was working on some ideas that she wanted to present and when she went back to read it things didn't look the same as she remembered.

She asked me about it. I said that the whole point of us all talking about it was to make sure things fit as they needed to. I stated that maybe something was changed but I didn't know about it personaly.

On that note I would like to point out that regardless of what is said in this host thread I don't share it. I don't share it with my friends and I don't share it with my wife. Fortunatley for me she tried to be understanding about the process and doesn't sit on my shoulder when I'm on here.

I couldn't remember who it was that thought it had changed...but I thought that it was cooler that as they thought about it and then re-read it, it was better.

That sentence must not make any sense.

For the record - Inks doesn't hang out on my shoulder either. Most of the time he doesn't even ask.

As far as why we were chosen as moderators, that's ultimately going to have to be answered by THX. He's the one that gave us the powers, as I believe. We all have different reasons for being here, but he can elucidate on the reasons.

I like the part:

"If someone posts to discuss their personal problems or seeks help from other forums members, please do not respond unless you have something positive or helpful to add." Huh? Who determines what is helpful and/or positive? What if someone posts they are having trouble in their marriage and one person responds by saying, "your spouse sounds like an asshole and you should get a divorce" as opposed to another person who responds by saying, "prayers coming your way". Which is more helpful? Again, too subjective.

she makes some good points in this.

I like simply be respectful. We definitely need to shorten it down a bit if we:

1. Want anyone to read it and

2. Show that things aren't as strict as some may think.

I can't look now but there really should be something in the rules about common sense. And if we place it in the right spot we could eliminate a bunch of verbiage.

I took out some of the language that leelabel was referring to as being too subjective. I changed the first heading to content.

CM - I'm a bit torn. Simplifying the code would be nice - but I'm also somewhat attached to having things spelled out. It could potentially save someone else the same crap we've been through in all this.

I think we should have THX post his reasons for selecting the moderators that he chose.

I am a bit miffed that people are questioning that whole process. No one questioned anything when THX was the sole and self-appointed moderator.

Personally, if anyone thinks they can do better, so be it.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Look at how subjective people think it is now. If we simplified it, there would be even more leeway for interpretation.

Considering the time people are putting into the converation and relizing that they are speaking to all 6 of us I tend to believe they in most cases have a valid concern.

Lets be honest, we all (the crew as a whole) hang out here.

Including those who post just during the hunt.

Why not put it out for discussion about the subjectivity and vagueness? Say that we're considering it, but what happens if something happens in the future? How would they have the moderators handle it if it's not clearly defined and it's up to subjectivity? Get their input, have them involved in the process a bit more. Let's all discuss our reasoning for doing what we're doing.

I think that might make things easier TMK. People need to understand that first off none of us really asked to do this. We were asked.... in some cases sorta told lol.

We didn't ask to be put in this position. We have friendships and relationships amongst us all. Why not use those relationships and friendships? We don't feel that we're above the rest of the people, it's just that we were put in this situation to try and keep some sanity and fun to this place.

2. Show that things aren't as strict as some may think.

whan i read that, you make a very good point. and in fact one that thx actually made. we're all gonna be offensive at some point in time. it happens. no one really has the right to not be offended; if something offends you, the choice to turn around and walk away is solely yours. and as far as kids reading what goes on here, perhaps parents should be parents and pay attention to what their kids are reading.

my response to them, kitch, would be that they can turn avatars off if someone's offends them.
