I don't have the coordinates yet but the CoolerCrew gave RV Bill a pure angelic white stuffed soft teddybear with a silver star on its foot- when he was in the hospital back in March.
This bear held with him special coordinates to name a star in Bills name. I know that at least within 48 hours of us losing Bill, he and his grandkids entered the information online. I'm still trying to get those and I'll let you know what they are.
Bill was buried with the bear and the coordinates.
I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who gives of their time and money and prayers and condolences as a CoolerCrew family.
Except for 1 person that I'll see next week, everyone who said they would give has given. I've been able to reconcile back to zero. We've been able to give flowers to Jase & Sue and RV Bills as well as the donation to the humane society in Bills name and the stars that went out in Dec.
I wanted to post a list of people who donated but didn't know how to do that without making people who arn't on the $$ list to feel bad (but maybe they would donate to get on the list ) .... also we all donate in other ways besides cash. ONE PERSON donated a nice $ amount and another has donated 3 times in a month!! Some people have donated by making the calls and ordering, others by showing up to support the other, I've seen people donate tickets to a basketball game or movie tickets, just because thats what they can give. Being on this end of things....I really appreciate you all so much for being so kind and generous with your time and money.
I know there has been talk about having a couple people be on a committee, so to speak, to handle where the funds/donations are held and go and items that get ordered in time and I really really think this would be a good idea. It kinda sounds corporate in a sense. But we need to do something because flowers for Bills funeral were almost forgotten because 1 or 2 people who usually do it were caught up in other things and noone else stepped up or didn't realize noone was taking care of this. I don't want that feeling in my stomach again and this way noone has to worry about who's doing it ... they just have to send their donation right to the fund. Anyone should be able to ask at any given time how much is there and if there is enough or is it short. One person in January gave $10 twords the future because their was enough $$ already for the stars but they wanted to give twords the Cooler fund in general because they could and had it right then and are not around all year to donate last minute. We have not had any trust issues - we've all become quite close.

I recently coordinated a donation effort on another board I read. Some donated, some did not. As has been the case on this board, all were included in the group signature. Only if the recipient agency asks for names of the donors, would I disclose that.
I very much appreciate that its also been done that way on this board, as sometimes people can't afford it, haven't been reading, forgot, or for some other reason couldn't/didn't donate, but yet, we are all part of the group, and I am glad to be included as such.
I will be glad to help any way I can with future efforts. It will be much easier once I move back, but I have helped and can help from a distance too.
I think having a fund is probably not necessary, although many clubs do fund an informal cheer fund.
We have gotten to be a large group, and these things are going to be more difficult to keep track of as time goes on.
But I think, for now, we can continue to just try and respond as situations arise, with perhaps one or two people who are willing to keep an eye out for situations in which a donation or flowers would be appropriate.

I agree. That way people donate directly to what they want. I don't like the fund idea. Sometimes you may not want to donate to something.(For whatever reason)
I was only keeping the door open so that anyone can donate anytime.
example: sometimes I have the $ in June when it's needed in Oct - kinda thing and I know I may not have it in Oct.
OR
I'm in ableminds only from the months of January til March (like some people are) and something happens to someone in June than I feel included in the gift because I donated in February when I was online.
an on going account I guess, that only arrose because someone wanted to do it thats not around much. These are rare but they have happened. I never turned any donation down. But whoever takes this over will have to decide if they turn a donation down or not.
Don't really know how much it's my place, but since people are worried...
Meg will be leaving the hospital relatively soon (and well) - the more severe and scary possibility has been disproved by the doctors. She still has some stuff going on (thus, the few more days) but she's in decent spirits enough to ignore the adults in the room to watch cartoons.
Sue is the worse for wear. Send good thoughts her way!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Tryg.... bringing those hamburgers and milkshakes to Children's hospital for Meg was going above and beyond... and so appreciated! What a great guy! Meg is doing much better... the infection was finally found by a cat scan to be a deep tissue strep infection at the base of her skull much better than the meningitis diagnosis that was suspected) and after 4 days in isolation they are letting her walk around a little and we are getting good news about her white count. Docs say if she keeps doing this well she will get to come home tomorrow or the next day
Sue! I'm so glad you are getting better news, and I do hope Meg will be home very soon. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!! Thanks for the update.
Deep Tissue Strep is nasty - did she have a cold infection that just never went away, or was she on weak antibiotics for too long or something like that?
My wife has a friend who's daughter is constantly ill. Right now she's got a really nasty case of tonsilitis. They just switched insurances; so the new doctors stick her on weak antibiotics first and go thru the whole medicine regimen (AGAIN) before they will decide to get her tonsils removed. It's torture on the poor kid. I swear it seems like she's had a fever for two straight weeks.
Hope Meg's recovery is speedy! I wanna see them posting in the Kids page soon!
amazing. I just can't imagine. poor thing. I hope you are all holding up ok. Whitney and I will have to touch base and maybe we can make a trip over to see Meg at your house Sat night or Sunday afternoon if she's up to it. maybe even cm will let Ali come too-not to 'party' but to visit for a bit.
This all sounds dejavue - did she go through this before-where she had a catscan. I'm really sorry she has had to go through all this
not so much a cold that went away, but she's had 6 positive strep tests since christmas. and even now, the throat cultures they've taken the entire time she's been in the hospital have come back negative. tonsil removal isn't an option for either of our kids because of their singing; it can screw up their voices.
OK... this story is just weird but true.... we are in the hospital till tomorrow due to Meg getting some spasms in her back related to the spinal tap. I was supposed to have lunch today with an old friend from high school named Carolyn Dean who emailed me when on wcco.com when my dad passed. I hadn't seen her in 25 years and had a great time catching up a little on the phone. When I found out we weren't getting out today,I called and left a msg on her cell this morning telling her I wouldn't be able to make it but was really looking forward to seeing her and could we reschedule for next week. Then I went for a short walk in the hospital with Meg to the family fun center. She started playing a video game and I grabbed a cup of coffee and the newspaper... I was so glad to see a newspaper for the first time in 5 days... and there on the front page (starandtrib) first story is Woman's jail suicide prompts inquiry. The article goes on to say that Carolyn Dean hung herself on a metal phone cord in a holding cell after being picked up for suspected drunk driving. On the second page was a picture... her picture. Oh my God! I just couldn't believe it... still can't. Jason found info on the funeral home and I called asking if her maiden name was Cox... now I will be attending her funeral on Tuesday.
We are home! Meg is doing well... the episode yesterday with the back spasm was determined to be a residual of the spinal tap and thank goodness she didn't have another one. They were able to make her comfortable with codien which they sent some home with us just in case. She looks 100% better than she did on Tuesday and is feeling good
So I had Taco House with Jake for dinner tonight to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. He asked if we were getting together at Majors on the 14th. I said I would post it and those who want to show at Majors at about 7pm can in memory of SantaDave. I'll plan to go but damn! just thinking of all that all over again :frown: :crying: that was a painful week all around.
I just wanted to mention in here also that Jakes close grandpa passed away April 8th. The next day his grandpas brother died and then another relative ended up in the hopital that same week with a life threathening illness.
Sad. Freaky wierd. But Sad. Is that the Rule of Three Terri Traen keeps talking about on KQRS?
We had a neighbor couple that were married close to 60 years. The 82 yr old husband fought a sickness for what seemed like months before he gave up the ghost. Two nights after the funeral, the 80 yr old wife passed away in her sleep. The one blessing is that they didn't have to 'recall' the family because most were in town already and hadn't left yet.
illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was
getting her things 'in order,' she contacted her Pastor and
had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her
final wishes.
She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what
scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to
be buried in.
Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave
when the young woman suddenly remembered something very
important to her.
'There's one more thing,' she said excitedly.
'What's that?' came the Pastor's reply.
'This is v ery important, ' the young woman continued. 'I want
to be buried with a fork in my right hand.'
The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite
what to say.
That surprises you, doesn't it?' the young woman asked.
'Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request,' said the
Pastor
The young woman explained. 'My grandmother once told me this
story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along
its message to those I love and those who are in need of
encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and
dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main
course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over
and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I
knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate
cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with
substance!'
So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a
fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the
fork?' Then I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork, the best
is yet to come.'
The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged
the young woman good-bye . He knew this would be one of the
last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew
that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did.
She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many
people twice her age, with twice as much experience and
knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming.
At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket
and they saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in
her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question,
'What's with the fork?' A nd over and over he smiled.
During his message, the Pastor told the people of the
conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she
died. He also told them about the fork and about what it
symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop
thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would
not be able to stop thinking about it either.
He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork
let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to
come. Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you
smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they
share a word of praise, and they always want to open their
hearts to us.
Show your friends how much you care. Remember to always be
there for them, even when you need them more. For you never
know when it may be their time to 'Keep your fork.'
Cherish the time you have, and the memories you share ...
Being friends with someone is not an opportunity but a sweet
responsibility.
And keep your fork
I'll be thinking about you and hope things go much much better

I really wanted to go to that.
sorry I can't go :frown:
its my daughters birthday party sleepover
I'll be honest...at times I haven't givin' money...reasons are my own.
other times I have...reasons are my own.
its not to be judged by other...its why its a gift.
(but maybe they would donate to get on the list )
I this your goal???
a fund??
could be come a mess...that would be close to putting us in a "non profit group status"
"For just $25 a year, you get this lovely Cooler Crew T-Shirt..."
On the other hand - that might not be a bad idea - sell $10 T-Shirts for $25, and pocket the profit for the "Flower" fund... whattaya think?
do what you want - I was only trying to help
