I stick with Knowlan's. It's close, they know me, and I get my groceries bagged. Almost a social event when I go shopping, I see so many people I know there.
Ha! A couple of weeks ago I ran into a good friend and we started talking and then several other people joined us and by the time we went on our way, they had restocked the juice my friend had come for that they were out of when she first looked! :pbpt:
I think you need to use cash there and they don't have bags? Maybe someone knows. My daughter bought a captain's bed for her little guy there and had to use cash.
something similar to that happens to my dad at Golden Harvest over here on Maryland.... (oddly enough, the store was once a Knowlans, too)....
the only pop he buys/drinks is Tab, and he usually empties them out of stock, if he can..... so the Hmong guys that run the store have started calling him "The Tab Man"
I worked there for a while, in the butcher dept. When I was hired, I was introduced to the rest of the employees as "This is Nick, he's the son of the tab man."
That's funny. I feel like I need to explain my purchases when I buy a lot of junk food. So I toss in some broccoli or something to make it look better.
But I like the fact that the butcher picks out my ham and I know the manager's name is Steve and he always makes sure that they have Ocean Spray cranberry relish for me during the holidays. One year they didn't have it and he got it somewhere else and delivered it to my house!
I didnt have to have the button on as long as it was registered- I tried twice thismorning to get your number KC- the only one I have for you is 222-2222 -I was worried about Nick as well cause we can't reach him if he's out there
um Im a little sick here - I really wasnt up for jumping up and down and there wern't any of my friends with me :frown: - Jake can account for my overall downness. I kept getting back in the truck cause of my coughing and cold.
I am really excited inside and think I will be even more tomorrow night - the ladies at the court house really made it feel good too with their excitment.
only problem with my cell phone is I really dislike the darned thing (actually it's just cell phones in general). I'd give ya a home number, but my roommate gets annoyed having to relay messages when I'm not home, leaves my work #.. but then that's only good in the daytime.
I'll see what kinda info I can get ya, however I feel as usual I'll just be a hard person to get a hold of.
Mr. Med is mailing me the don boxmeyer radio tape, so I should have a copy of that online soon.
I haven't ventured into the hunt folder yet to see the details but you definitely deserved it being the die hard sick hunter you are. I'm happy it was one of us. One down tons to go. Nice way to start off this years local hunts.
I looked for the box at that one, the one in IGH and in Edina at the service counters. I looked all over the place at the IGH one. And that's the one I called that said they were told to remove it.
Apparently the lady from Cub corporate called and left a message saying that I can call her with my info and she'll enter me. I already turned it in at the PP - which was a totally empty box BTW  - That lady said they just emptied it. I hope they empty it again.
I guess the Corp Cub lady sounded a bit pissed and wanted to know which Cub's I was at so she can give them a call.
Ha - I'll give her the info tomorrow and also get my name in again - just for the hassle.
It's always so entertaining to slog through here !
Congrats Me2! I can't imagine running around outside in this weather with a cold - I'm just coming through the end (I hope) of a nasty bout - worst sore throat ever, then turned into a cough. Hope you feel better soon!
For anyone interested in ALDI -- we began shopping there a couple years ago. They are actually part of a HUGE German company. They have some unique ideas about retailing, but they do make sense. If you are going to want a cart, for instance, you will have to have a quarter handy for a deposit. You put the quarter in and the little lock-y thing releases the cart. There are not a lot of stray carts in the lot!
They do not accept checks or credit cards. They don't have to go after people that write bad checks or pay the credit card fees. They have bread cheaper than the Wonder/Hostess outlets - it's been a while since I've been to one, but I think I remember seeing bread at like $.39.
I met my husband at Knowlan's on Grand Ave. when we both worked there. I sure miss the neighborhood stores.

thats cool- now everytime I drive past there I'll be thinking of you two-
Isn't Aldis with the dented cans? I also thought they don't always have items you want in stock cause they recieve the damaged ones.
I hate it when my store stops carrying a brand I buy. And unfortunately thats where my spoiled american attitude kicks in- Im in America! I should be able to get what I want when I want it, damn it! :frown:
I guess I don't get the whole quarter thing. They're not making any money off of it. Are stolen or stray carts an issue? Spend $150 for a cart coral and be done with it. :eyeroll:
I can see it at the airport where a person can cover miles but you're only going to your car less than 100' away.
Do you have to bring the cart back into the store? I can see that they'd save some labor $ then that way. But I don't see me making a trip back for a quarter. I suppose that's what the kids are for then. Free labor.
Aldi doesnt sell dented cans..what they do is contract with name brand companies to put an Aldi label on their brands( I dont mind paying 99 cents for a 3 dollar bag of doritos if it doesnt say doritos) They dont stock everything a Cub or Rainbow would but they have a good selection of the basics and what they dont have we get a the other stores. As to feeling "ghetto" is suppose thats because of the type of store its percieved to be. I admit I have seen some characters in the rice street Aldi but I never let it bother me. And they are opening up a new Aldi by me(White Bear/Mahtomedi area) and I think it may change the perception a bit when all the suburban stores start opening(they plan a big expansion in MN). So give Aldi a chance I save a lot of money there. As to the cart thing I suppose they dont have to pay someone to fetch the carts from the parking lot and that saves them some overhead. Oh and I believe Aldi bread is made by taystee(I think of seen some in the Taystee outlet store)
I didnt want to start a big Aldi debate just relating my experience with them..also since Aldi is a ways away right now we only go once a month and stock up and we usually make other trips also. When the new store opens its right down the road from a Festival so that will save time also. So give them a chance just dont let the fact that most of the items are a store brand because we havent had any problems with anything there..except sometimes the produce can be a little overripe or funny thats the one thing we really dont buy there.
dont let the fact that most of the items are a store brand
I can attest that the Walmart brands are exactly like the way more expensive name brands. Kinda weird that Wally is so big that their products are allowed to be placed right next to the name brands. Usually this would not be allowed but Wally is so big they'll do whatever he asks. They still sell a bunch either way. I think they're called Equate or something like that.
Very well put Saints - I agree 100% with what you said. I also think their dairy products are very excellent..the meats and seafoods are good and check out the produce section too...I t took some getting used to - but well worth it in the end.
all cashiers in unison.... OT!!!!!

Hey, ya wanna make an event of it?!?
 :goofy:
RAINBOW ALL THE WAY!
That's what Nicks van always says.
:worried: :sheepish:
Its been delivered here to my house by mistake.... you can come and get it anytime you want....
me2----I've taken the call in so many times that from a "finder" and that wasn't the sound of a finder....are you getting bored with finding stuff???

I just feel getto....I'm sorry but paying a quarter to get a shopping cart turned me off so bad I have never gone back...
heck just for the fun of it...I did take the cart to the farthest spot in the parking lot and let somebody else get a free quarter.
I can see it at the airport where a person can cover miles but you're only going to your car less than 100' away.

The coin thing is a German or European thing. All the stores there do it. I imagine that is why they brought it over here.
heh..maybe I should take a roll of quarters and put the carts all over the lot for the fun of it.
