I'd offer really I would but I just pushed off a weeks worth of homework, and other obligations that I now need to cram in. When are you doing all this work?
Well since I asked 20 people and literally no one said boo one way or the other other than iceman, I had to bump things out a week for new painting and carpet installation the week of the 11th. Took today off of work, going to be there this afternoon ripping out old carpet, cleaning stuff out, hauling stuff away, and then tomorrow probably clean the walls and prep rooms for paint, then next weekend (Saturday) my mom will help me paint the place, I'll just start early and have everything done. Ideally I wanted to get 6-8 people to help with everything, figuring it's 20 hrs. of work, but with 10 people it'd be 2 hours on the clock, but oh well. I guess I can't complain, since everybody's busy and Mrs. bear said it was short notice of me to ask.
This sounds pretty cool. The water above the dam in downtown Minneapolis will be lowered 13 feet on Feb 20th. More info at Friends of the Mississippi River.
Drawdown of the St. Anthony Pool
    Wed., Feb. 20, noon-2 p.m.
    Stone Arch Bridge, Minneapolis
    Pre-registration required, see below
Come take advantage of this rare opportunity to see the Mississippi River at St. Anthony Falls lower than it has been for over 20 years!
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be drawing down the river about 13 feet between Upper and Lower St. Anthony Falls locks and dams. The Corps is conducting the drawdown, which they do every 20 years, to facilitate a tunnel inspection. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Friends of the Mississippi River and the National Park Service will offer an interpretive tour of the Mississippi River at St. Anthony Falls.
John Anfinson and Dave Wiggins, from the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service, will lead a walking tour of the area. Starting on the Stone Arch Bridge overlooking the river, John and Dave will discuss the siteÂ’s historical significance, provide an overview of the lock and damÂ’s construction, and identify important points of interest exposed by the lower water level. The tour will head across the bridge to Mill Ruins Park where participants will get a close look at the exposed river bottom. National Park Service rangers will also be in the area to answer questions throughout the day.
If you are interested in attending this tour, please sign up in advance with Friends of the Mississippi River at spt[at]fmr.org or 651/222-2193 ext. 16.
Please include your name, full contact information and the number in your party. It is imperative we be able to reach you in case of weather-related changes; for this purpose, consider including your personal and work e-mail addresses
I'm going to the Obama rally. Doors open at 1:30, but they still haven't said what time he's expected. I sure hope its not 7:00 or something. :eyeroll:
Have you read his book - the Audacity of Hope? We bought it for my daughter this Christmas, my Mom has read it and I just got it back from her. Hope to read it before our daughter comes back for the weekend on the 13th.
I've been looking for it when I go to Target, but they haven't had it. I forget when I'm near a Barnes & Nobel. Maybe I'll just put myself on the waiting list at the library.
I think this will be fun. Now I'm excited about riding the light rail too.
When is the Osama shindig. OT? If it's during the week feel free to stop by my place and I'll show you what the top of the world looks like. You might even be able to see a wrestling match between the kids.
That sounds wonderful, CM, but it's today. I still haven't seen anywhere where it says what time he's expected to speak, just that the doors open at 1:30. I'm taking a book along in case he shows up at 7:00.
I think I'll catch the light rail at Fort Snelling. I know how to get there and I'm not sure where you catch it at the MOA.
Just wanted to say thanks to Iceman and Mikey for volunteering to help me out today. Turns out I don't need massive help today, instead NEXT Saturday, but still - two guys willing to give up part of their weekend for me. You guys rock.
I had a great time! Loved the convenience of the light rail. Bought a round trip ticket and I'm sure glad I did. There were really long lines to buy tickets after the rally. And I'd probably still be fighting traffic in Minneapolis if I had parked down there.
I got downtown at about 1:00. You could see lines in the skyway and a crowd in front of Target Center. Got closer and saw that the crowd went down the side of the building too. But! It kept going! The line would around the Target Center and went all the way up N. 7th St. and eventually went under 94! I ended up around 6th Ave. N. and Olson Memorial Highway. We were in line for two hours. It was crazy. Made friends with a young couple, so had company. We sat together at the rally too.
Got inside and ended up quite high up but in front of the stage and had the big screen in front of us too. They had some band playing but didn't catch the name of the group. They announced it and all I heard was Grammy Award winners. They left the stage and people started moving around down there so figured he was probably coming on soon. R.T. Rybak introduced some pols and then Jane Freeman, widow of Orvill Freeman, former Governor of MN and Secretary of Agriculture under Kennedy and then Johnson. She introduced Obama.
He stuck his head out into the crowd and the place went crazy. He spoke for about an hour and gave a very good speech. I don't know how those candidates keep up that pace. He sure has a way with words. I just felt good being in the building with him.
I followed the crowd out onto 1st Avenue and made my way to the train and, as I said, was able to get on one right away. Had to stand most of the way back, but that sure is the way to go. Thank you so much for suggesting that, Kitch. I'm so glad I went.
Mom was my wake-up call today. Months back the cats knocked the alarm clock off the table next to my bed and it landed on its buttons and hasn't uttered a peep since. Not a biggie as I rarely need to set my alarm for anything as I like know when to wake up.
But my schedule's way off with the Hunt. I'm used to sleeping in until like 8:30/9:00. Don't like this wake-up-at-6:00 business.
I don't know why. Maybe someone would like to watch and see why I do what I do and that I'm certainly not alone in the obcession. I would think some of you might have this same feeling: ittiz hard going back to work after taking a vacation to Hunt. People like look at you, think you're strange, ask ssssoooo many questions.
My job last year they all kept saying your taking 2 weeks off and if you don't find it you lose all that money you could have had!! I was like yep its not all about the money it is the friendships I make that will last me A life time!!
but then They called me every day to try and get me to WORK!! well I was off and finely one day in the hunt I answered and said look as far as I go RIGHT NOW I AM OUT OF TOWN I wouldn't call you if you where in FL. With your family having a good time a Disney or some crap like that now leave me the F alone or I wont come back after the hunt and that shut them UP FAST!!
Al because I knew they wouldn't find someone that could run it like ME!! lol I knew they Wouldn't Fire me I bet if I really wanted to go back for the headache and deal with the crap I could go back!!

Wednesday though? Too bad it wasn't a weekend... I'd probably be able to go then.
as I was reading it I was thinking of the tunnels on the island
cool - I may do the tour - anyone else interested?
Mr. Anifinson is extemely intelligent in his field - noone can take his place.
I can help a day throughout the week for a couple of hours.
I can let you know about next Saturday later.
dont remember how much so bring lotsa quarters
The ramp in the back may depend on the event - I remember it being around $10
have fun at what ever you are doing
I'd suggest parking at the MOA or fort snelling...
any other places is bad neighborhoods for the most part.
ride it to the end and a short walk from there
Have you read his book - the Audacity of Hope? We bought it for my daughter this Christmas, my Mom has read it and I just got it back from her. Hope to read it before our daughter comes back for the weekend on the 13th.
My Mom says it's wonderfully written.
I think this will be fun. Now I'm excited about riding the light rail too.
It was cheaper there than anywhere else we checked.
The library is a good deal too.
If it were mine, I would lend it to you, but I don't even know if I can finish it before Brenda gets here in a couple weeks.
(I tend to fall asleep when I'm reading.)

Sigh I fell all lonely....
Also, they neighborhoods along the light rail are just fine, but the ride from the MOA is the most fun.
I think I'll catch the light rail at Fort Snelling. I know how to get there and I'm not sure where you catch it at the MOA.
see anybody there, who will be there... and everybody else tomorrow!!
I'll just have to keep checking back in here.
HURRY UP!!!
