I DO manage to swing by here and READ the board every few days, but have not been able to take the time to post since I don't know when. But I just HAD to find the time after what Me2 posted yesterday about the address look up.Â
I have the abstract on our property - I DON'T know WHY, I don't think we should have it - especially with kids! But anyway, I had to go looking through it and sure enough there was a guy by that name listed around that time. Wish I knew the people who were trying to get the info though, because what they might not know is that there was a succession of people with that last name. It went something like from one guy to his brother, to his daughter.....the abstract is SOOO cool. I have ownership records back to the Statehood. The entry is listed as "the United States to William Smith" in 1849 or something like that.
So - ME2....Can anyone go and poke around and find out who lived where back when? I would like to try to trace my roots, someday when I've got oodles of time. I think I would be satisfied (or it would really get me going) just with knowing when and where and what relative came to the US.
Mom-very cool! not everyone has an abstract and if they do than they should have it in a safe deposit box-they are irreplaceable!!!! have it copied if you can. They are supposed to be passed down from homeowner to homeowner but they get kept, lost, burned in fires. Ours goes back to the 1860's but that is because I am on this side of the river. Yours has got to be one of the oldest I have heard of around these parts. I am interested in a historical standpoint to read yours when ever you will allow me to :)
Was watching BIG FISH and saw the shoes thrown up on the wires and thought of the shoe stories lately. In the movie I think they threw the shoes up there and then went to dance bare foot. I didnt see a reason for it.
yeah except you don't stamp a logbook, just circle a number...
I had been running around downtown this weekend taking pictures of them, long story as to why I started, wasn't really my idea, but now I feel like I gotta finish it since I started... probably got 80 of em done...
I believe there's another one that has "Dawg" in the name.
I used to work at The Berry Patch (way down at the bottom under Washington County) so I gotta put in a plug for them, but that might be too far out for some folks.
I come bearing great news today I put down $500 in earnest money towards my condo in St. paul it will be completed in November of this year and barring any issues arrising in the next 10 days it is mine!!!
I was out hunting a geocache on Saturday with some other geocachers along the Mississippi River Boulevard (just a bit north of Hidden Falls). It was hidden out in the foot trails along the bluffs. Anyways while we were searching, a Sheriff's patrol boat came up along the river, pointing directly at us, the next thing we hear is "Stay out of the Caves!" booming over a bullhorn.
Well A, I didn't even know there were caves in the area we were searching, I certainly didn't see any, and B, after the guy told us that, the first thing I wanted to do was see where the caves were. Lol, of course I didn't have time, since I was geocaching, but it's a great example of a wasted warning. Like telling a kid not to put their hand on a hot stove burner, first thing they want to do is try it.
Dont you have a treasure hunters guide? The caves should be listed in it. The river is pretty far from the actual caves so that is a strange warning.
that is wonderful news Rush!
It is crazy how one person can be having such a great day as someone else is having the worst day! :(
Â
Hey what is with this new system? I hit the 'enter' key to go to the next line but it really takes you 2 lines down! I only wanna go to the next line!!!! Why does it 'double line' instead of go to the next line? :(
Sure thing me2, thought you could use one. Sorry to hear the news about Mary, losing a loved one is always hard.
Actually I don't have a trasure hunter's guide. Maybe when the next edition comes out... I think the law enforcement is just being paranoid, warning anyone they see anwhere near the bluffs.
The spot we were at had some limestone/sandstone outcroppings and cliffs, it's actually a very nice spot, and the second best area I've found to catch a sunset. Though seems to be a popular teen hangout.

He took video of the mosh pit at Phalen the last night (or second to last?) of the hunt last year.
911- I was wondering when we all would get to see that movie. thanks.
lightningboy -just found it ironic and didnt know if he was a 'coolermember' or not
-on our way down from the lake, weekend before last, we saw incredible clouds and lightning above the clouds to the south and a beautiful sunset to the north. we were smackdab inbetween it all for about an hours drive. we even passed a man on the side of the road who stopped to take photos so I knew it wasnt just my imagination as to how friggen cool this was. Mark and I talked about how cool a book would be with photos of storms. Last year when the Snowflake book came out I couldnt wait to see it and then was dissapointed in it.
Oh, and I was on the 'main page' of PF...showing the website of other top 100 forum websites...wow! IN SYNCs website get more 'posts' than PF? how crazy is that?

sooo,, I am watching the Andy Griffith Show and Opie says something to the fact that he can't buy something from his friend cause he needed a nickle for milk!!! a nickle! wow! I guess they didnt say what size milk though.
they musta had a lot of cows back then. Why did the milk/cheese prices go up this summer? I forgot the reasoning.
Yeah, you could make quite the little profit for yourself Kitch. I can't believe what they want for milk, especially now when i'm drinking it constantly.
Unfortunately, the state of Minnesota has regulations on how much you can charge for milk. I always got mine from Walgreens before for $2.29/gal but they were forced to up their price to $3.13 because of the regulations on underselling dairy products. :-(
OH this is nice....I wish I had this at work!!!HOW Cooler is this??
Yep really cool...but I see issues this winter!

Speaking of discarded children's shoes, I went for a walk this evening and saw one pair in a park and one single shoe on a wall.Â

Does anyone know where you can still pick your own strawberries around here? My favorite places don't offer it any longer.
We used to go to Afton Apple (orchard) to pick them. They were small enough then, I'd guess they'd still allow you to pick your own.
If I'm not mistaken, they also had the same deal with raspberries and such.
Thanks KC. I'll give them a call. I used to pick at Swanlunds and Berryland, both in Cottage Grove.
Sorry OT- I dont know- Grandma up at the lake always gets them picked from an orchard up there. Raspberries and Strawberries
Â
and my favorite so far is the Roadhouse Dawg Snoopy :)
The auction on those is set for September 19th.
I told Mark I was looking at them closely as to pick my favorite for an anniversary gift ;p (of course I was only kidding)
Â
Ares started taking photos of the statues way back when Snoopy was in town the first time- I am not sure if he is continuing again this year though.
Artemis sighting-She was in the 'who's here' list and now she is gone! :(
I see her in there a lot she never posts in the cooler though
Here's a good pick your own resource:

they musta had a lot of cows back then. Why did the milk/cheese prices go up this summer? I forgot the reasoning.
I was blown away that I only had to pay a $1.85 a gal in madison at the Kwik Trip for whole milk.
You could buy it there and sell it here!
Yeah, you could make quite the little profit for yourself Kitch. I can't believe what they want for milk, especially now when i'm drinking it constantly.
I know it really ticked me off.....
Since my two litle girls and myself are milk pigs.....BUT gas there was still at 1.98 gal.

$1.98 per gallon? I just gassed up here in the cities for $1.70!
It's a $1.65 over here.
I never notice unless it's like over $2.00.
