1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Tim, I have doubted Conway from the start. It used to be classified as a park, but not any more! I want to go look, but I have no idea where to go anymore. I guess

I'll just wait for the last clue!

Allison - I can't agree w/ your North-South analysis. It says to *look* for two frozen places of equal size. That seems to me it is something visible on-site, not

something abstract like the poles.

Along those lines, I heard and saw two possibilities at Conway: the ice rinks, which are definitely frozen but not entirely equal size; or the tennis courts, which are

only sort of frozen over but are definitely areas of equal size.

If anyone really wants to dig, dig at Conway. All the clues point towards it and the fact it hasn't been found could be due to any number of things. If you have doubts,

and you're leaning towards another park, unless you have a REALLY good idea where it is, you'd probably never find it anyway, even if you're right.

In response to the question about does anyone here just read the clues and not hunt for the medallion. That would be me. I live too far away from the action. So, Go

get that medallion people.

allison I also think that the pole idea is off. Are they frozen from the recent rain? Does the clue writer make the clues according to the weather?

There are four untility poles on the park property. Lionel, I thought about the tennis courts too at first, but they were pretty well investigated last night too, plus I

don't think you can see the water tower from there. As far as what to look for, I just don't trust this writer to say anything in a straightforward way. If you substitute

north and south poles for two frozen places equal in size, the clue reads, Look for north and south poles. Just like the trees in a line clue, you had to substitute a

different phrase.

Told yah it was at Conway!

The St. Paul Pioneer Press medallion has been found. It was turned in at 6 p.m. Wednesday night. It was found in Conway Park.

See, I knew it all along!

That is why I don't hunt for that thing. I would still be at Como in denial, digging up trees, breaking down stuff, swearing it was all a lie, a conspiracy against me. Oh

well, until next year.

Aaron Niedorf of St. Paul found the the St. Paul Pioneer Press medallion at 5:45 p.m. today in Conway Park. The medallion was wrapped in a crocheted holder

and located among a row of trees. He was not wearing an official Winter Carnival button and won the $5,000 prize.
